History

Established in 1950.

Business was founded in 1950 by Clyde H. Townsend starting with Harley Davidson motorcycles. In 1962 Honda was taken on and Harley was dropped in 1967. Don Owens, Clyde’s son-​in-​law, joined the business in 1975 and since then Yamaha, Suzuki, Polaris, Victory, California Sidecar and Motor Trike have been added. Dothan Powersports has been awarded the coveted Dealernews Top 100 dealer designation for the last 10 consecutive years.

Business Owner

Don has been very active in the motorcycle industry serving as a member of the Honda National Dealer Council in the early 90’s and serves as a member of the state motorcycle dealer association. He is also a member of the AMA. He served his local community as a school board member for 10 years and was awarded the states highest honor for a school board member being awarded an All American School Board Member. He presently serves as a director on the hospital board at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He is very active in his church, Southside Baptist Church.
