Been coming to Barrentine’s since I was a little kid. It’s a hometown favorite type of place. They have a traditional«fish market» counter and a hotdog counter with barstools, as well as an oyster bar and a separate seating area with booths. The place smells true to it’s name — it’s a fish market — but it’s not that bad and after 2 minutes u don’t notice it. Prices are very reasonable. I think the most expensive thing on the menu is 15 dollars. They have the best chilli dogs. You have to try one! Homemade chili, steamed buns and sweet onions… they are amazing! They also have a really good selection of fried fish. The fried shrimp, okra, and hushpuppies are just okay. I go here for the oysters on the half shell as well. They are the best tasting oysters I’ve ever had. The place is not fancy, everybody knows everybody, and the people are good Southern grown folks. This isn’t the place for commenting on the décor, ambiance, and the professional servers. Appreciate it for what it is, and you’ll be glad you stopped in!
