We are a state-​certified emissions testing location, and able to test ALL model years. We do emissions repairs on vehicles that fail emissions.

We are the ORIGINAL Tilly Mill Auto Service Center! Founded in 1975 by Army veteran Danny Shipp, we have always offered great service, accurate diagnosis, fast repairs, and emissions testing for all vehicles — all at a fair price

Danny turned the expertise he gained while managing an Army motor pool of almost 200 vehicles of every type into a Doraville landmark. Customers flock from the surrounding communities of Dunwoody, Chamblee, Norcross, and Sandy Springs because they can’t find this kind of service anywhere else.

Danny has a great sense of humor, and you will feel like you’ve known him forever upon first meeting him. Everyone else in the shop is very approachable, too. This is the kind of auto repair shop your grandfather used to patronize.

I send my girlfriend here for any and all work she needs done on her car because the staff are HONEST and knowledgable. On our last visit, Danny was able to help us get an issue resolved the same day, even though we didn’t have an appointment and the shop was already swamped. They only recommend necessary maintenance and don’t overcharge. Thanks for everything!

I have done business with Danny for several years now, and have always left satisfied. He is honest and trustworthy. Does great work. We had a bit of a misunderstanding the last time I was there, but he did right by me and honored the quoted estimate. No fancy waiting rooms or anything, but the customer ends up paying for those perks anyway through higher prices. Fair prices for quality work; what else do you want from a mechanic, at the end of the day?

This review is for Brake installation service. I got my own parts from
— a full set (front and back) Rotors and Brakes. Before calling Mr. Danny (Owner of Tilly Mill Auto) I called a few other places, apart from the fact that they were not available for a weekend job, and were asking $ 100 to $ 150/​set for installation. I called on a Friday afternoon and talked to Mr. Danny, and he very welcoming, and told me to come at 10am on Saturday and I will have the service — the price point was much better than any of the centers I had called before.
On reaching Tilly Mill, I met Mr. Danny and he took my car in immediately, told his mechanic (by the same name), explained what needs to be done. The service was done perfectly, with care and efficiency — Mr. Danny (the kind mechanic), took my car for a test drive to ensure the brakes have been installed perfectly
But the 5 stars ratings for the auto center is just not the great, high quality and affordable work, its also because Mr. Danny runs this place (along with his family) with honesty and respect, I noticed this while I was at his shop. he treats all his customers with the courtesy and respect, he understand how important a vehicle is to a person — for some people its their source of income.
I commend Mr. Danny, Tommy and the entire Tilly Mill Auto team for running a fantastic shop.
Like all the other reviewer before me, after my work, I am a fan of Mr. Danny and his team.

This is the only mechanic shop you ever need to know. They are honest and hard working. Their prices are very fair. It’s not fancy place but the work and service is bar none.
I’ve lived in Dunwoody 15 years and it’s the only place I go. And– if they feel they can’t do justice to the job, they will let you know and give you a referral to where it can be fixed. Where else will you find that…

I brought my car in for an oil change and for them to look at my brakes. When I go to pick my car up, they had replaced my brakes! UMMM, nobody called me to get approval for that! I specifically asked him to check out my brakes, not replace them. I was so flabbergasted I just paid them without a word. Thank god we will are moving to a place that has a garage so my husband can work on my car from now on. My husband and I will NEVER take our cars back there.

Awesome Customer Service!!! These guys don’t pull the «She’s a female so I’m going to sell her a bunch of stuff she don’t need.» They are HONEST! Danny is great! He explains everything and gets the job done! No frills, so no waiting room, but walk over to Waffle House and get a bite to eat while you wait.
Seriously, don’t take your car anywhere else.

I honestly have to say the owner here was really awesome and friendly. I went in to get an emission test done and it was like 7am he didn’t tell me to wait or anything he took me right on on other places probably would have told me to wait because they were just opening. The test was $ 25 which I didn’t mind paying because I needed it anyways. From the looks at it this guy gets a lot of business. He was telling me what kind of stuff he does and he went over prices. He made me feel really comfortable and it shows that he really enjoys his job. If I need some major work done to my car I will be going back to see this guy.

Doctors and auto mechanics got you by the short hairs. You never really know if what they say you need is really necessary or if they are just padding the bill so they can make their next boat payment. So when I found Danny at Tilly Mill Auto Service Center well over 15 years ago, I stuck with him. He has worked on all my family’s cars and I have been satisfied with his work and the prices he charges. He is an honest and trustworthy auto mechanic. I have brought him a Mazda Van, a Cadillac CTS, a Volkswagen Tiguan, and a Toyota Camry — all of which he fixed. I can’t say enough about him and his expertise. His shop is no frills — don’t expect a plush waiting area. But his lot is usually full which means I am not alone in my assessment of his skills and price points. He works hard — I last brought one of our cars in on a Friday to replace a water pump and it was ready for pickup Saturday. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Another review gave them 4 stars and said we can all improve. I am not sure that this place could be any better in any area.

I only hesitate to give Danny and his team 5 stars because I don’t believe any of us are perfect — but he’s damm close! :-) A friend’s car failed on her while she was visiting and I simply did a search on Unilocal for a good mechanic. I spoke to Danny when I went in — he told me up front he wouldn’t be able to get to her car until the next day (his lot was full of cars!) Came back the next day and her car was sorted out and she hasn’t had an issue since. (this took place during the summer) NOTE: it’s an 11 yr. old car! I ended up sending my nephew to Danny when his radiator went out and he sorted him out as well for a fair price. It’s such a relief to know that when I need an excellent mechanic — Danny and his Tilly Mill team are there. Thanks so much for everything — I (and my friend) are forever grateful. :-)

I had heard about Danny from coworkers but had not yet needed a mechanic in Dunwoody. When the date for tag renewal came (and passed!), my boyfriend and I scrambled to get everything in order to remain road legal. Danny promised emissions check in 8 minutes or less, and he fulfilled that promise with courtesy and professionalism! I am so excited to have found a non-​smarmy and affordable mechanic that I am not so scared of breaking down way out in Dunwoody anymore.

Im new to Georgia and didn’t have a mechanic i can trust (im highly skeptical of many) but i Brought in my car which desperately needed an alternator repair after reading the reviews and calling and was been very pleased with this shop. They were true to their word with the price which was affordable and reasonable but i was highly impressed with their efforts to help me in my situation– although they never made any promises they did tell me they would do their best to get the job done quickly but most importantly they delivered. Everyone was very nice, sweet, knowledgable, honest and dedicated. I will definitely return if i need their service again. I am very grateful and the least i can do is send out a good word.

I moved to Dunwoody 7 years ago and have been a customer of Danny’s since I moved here. Danny has done all of the maintenance on all 4 of our cars (97 Camry, 98 Civic, 2003 4Runner, 2004 Tundra) during this time.
We are extremely pleased with his work and have recommended his company to both our family and friends. Having a very competent, reliable mechanic is a godsend and we have found that with Danny (and his crew).

They do a good job in a timely fashion. They explain what they’re doing and what they’ve done without being condescending or using confusing mechanic lingo. They’re fairly priced and take extra effort to give a cost effective solution rather than replacing everything questionable and sticking you with a big bill.
I think they have finally nailed down the intermittent problem that has been vexing us. There’s a distinct advantage to sticking with one mechanic who knows your car.

Look everyone, if you are tired of paying to much $$$ for dealer auto care, look no further. I have been using Tilly Mill Service Center going on 5 years. Yes they are an honest and reputable company with a fair price about half what the dealers charge.

Simply the most trustworthy and honest business folks I have ever met in the auto repair business. Danny is a very straighforward business owner that is focused on delivering quality work at a reasoable price. After a recent bad experience at a big chain (which Danny and team quickly resolved) I will never go anywhere else again.

I’ve been going here for a little over two years, since my husband and I moved to this part of town. My car has been a real problem child in that time. They haven’t been able to figure out exactly what’s going on with it. Despite that, I’m happy with my experience. When they weren’t able to figure out the issue after almost a week, they only charged me for parts and not labor.
Side note: I also have my emissions testing done here. No problems.

Danny has been fixing my car for years. I was extremely upset for a while with him because he does not «mod» cars. I had an old 97 miata, I slammed it, shipped it, put an exhaust on it, and when i finally got in a wreck, and he fixed it, but didnt put a new kit on it because he didnt do body work, I was upset for pretty stupid reasons.
I’m glad i know a guy that can fix my car for a nice price and trust with future repairs and maintenance.
