This bakery may be very small and not as fancy as the others but their breads are wonderful. They do not taste as greasy and are cheap. I am a fan of their pizza bread and this custard/cream bread. It comes with two and are about ½ the size of a regular bread and the custard/cream inside is so light and airy.

7:00PM: Delicious, filling dinner at C’om. Even though they give you a small dessert there, I knew I wanted more. More goodness. 7:10PM: Turn to trusty Unilocal Blackberry App, come across reviews for Koryodang: crepes AND bubble tea!!! Be still my nutella and tapioca(but not together) lovin’ heart! 7:45: After driving past it, uh, twice due to shoddy GPS, arrive at Koryodang and peruse the lovely baked goods on display. 7:50: Go to register, following scene takes place: Me: «what kinds of toppings do you have for the crepes?» Cashier worker lady: «oh, we don’t have crepes today.» Me: «Oh! Okay, no problem. Do you have bubble tea?» CWL: «Yes.»(points to menu of flavors available) Me: I’ll have a green tea, please.(proceed to pay via credit card for bubble tea and cohort’s hot chocolate and red bean bun) CWL: «You wanted that with tapioca, yes?» Me: «Yes, of course!» 7:53: Shit hits the fan. CWL: «Um, we don’t have tapioca balls. Do you still want the tea?» Me:(stifling my urge to rip her head off and create a tapioca ball out of it) «Oh, yeah, I guess.» 7:54: Sulk. 7:55: Pout.(still waiting on our drinks) 7:56: Twitter about my angry feelings. 7:57: Just stare at the wall in disbelief. 7:58: «Bubble» tea aka green tea smoothie arrives, and the flavor is actually decent. Despite being blended, if it had actually been bubble tea, assuming the balls were alright, it could have been some of the best on BuHi. But it was ballless and sad. I drank maybe 10 sips before throwing it away. Flashforward to 11:57PM: Anger pervades. 12:30AM: Still peeved at my bubble-tealess evening.

The red bean buns and some of the room temperature cakes were very good. They didn’t have anything by the slice in the cooler, which may have been a reflection of the time we went(Wednesday 30 minutes before closing). The service was very good. Definitely need to get back on a weekend when the selection is better.

I, like Rob Y., started visiting Koryodang during my Emory years. I think I still go back for sentimental values, because there’s probably better selection at other bakeries on Buford(though Koryodang’s prices do tend to be lower than at say… White Windmill). I love the crepes, but the problem is they’re often unavailable. I also love the breads… there’s one with cream filling that I could eat everyday(though it’s probably not good for my belly). There’s also a potato & onion bread that’s awesome if you nuke it in the microwave for 15 – 20 seconds(it’s a salty bread). The servers don’t speak English super well, but we still manage to be able to communicate. One married couple friends got their wedding cake from here in 2007… I don’t remember how it tasted, but it looked real cute: P Don’t get the citron tea. I got it a few weeks ago and it was so sweetened with syrup that it felt like I was just drinking sugar. Hopefully that was an exception. However, Koryodang will always have a special sentimental place in my heart. Come to mama, you little white cream breads. :P

Who knew they had crepes?! I’ve been so obsessed with their red bean buns that I’ve never tried the crepes. I’ll have to try the crepes, but if they’re as good as their pastries & cakes, I’m sure I won’t be disappointed. As I mentioned, I come here to stock up on red bean buns. They’re usually freshly baked and very yummy. I’ve also gotten pastries that have hot dogs wrapped in them. It may not sound yummy, but it is. It’s also set up as a coffee shop with Korean soaps running in the background, so you can sit and stay for a while if you like. I’ve ordered birthday cakes before here. The one I ordered came with red bean between the layers. Not all people(especially non-Asians) might not enjoy that, but I love it. Service is good and I would come by more if I lived closer.

Food(8.0/10)=During my years at Emory University(2001 – 2006), my friends and I always visited Koryodang for their crêpe desserts. Everything else Koryodang sells was good(but not great), but their fruit crepes were always a nice way to finish off a meal we had at some restaurant on Buford Hwy. In my opinion, Koryodang’s fruit crepes are superior to what SunO has to offer. Koryodang serves the traditional egg/flour based crêpe, and SunO basically uses a funnel which has the flavor and texture of a fortune cookie. Moreover, Koryodang puts ice cream into their crepes, while SunO just gives you a large blob of whipped cream. I recently visited Atlanta(July 2008) and visited Koryodang again for a fruit crêpe. The quality and flavor hasn’t changed one bit! ***check out my uploaded pics*** Ambiance(8.0/10)=The ambiance is certainly nice. Most Korean bakeries/cafes are nice anyways. However, relative to Maum’s décor(which I have given 10 points for ambiance), this place doesn’t come close. 8.0 points is good enough. Service(7.0/10)=Service is standard. You place your order, you pay, you get your food. Overall opinion=Koryodang’s fruit crepes will always have a place in my stomach whenever I visit Atlanta.
