Old Country Buffet

I used to go here as a kid and loved the macaroni and cheese, but when I go here now, I feel dirty.

We were just here on Saturday and I must say the evening food did not impress me. We have been here for breakfast and we found the food was much better, better tasting and more options. The food this evening was quite bland. Not sure what the issue was but in my eyes we liked the breakfast options much more.

Bathroom walls could use a scrub down. No reason for doors to be so filthy and it smelled like old urine. The cappuccino and the soda machine were filthy. The cappuccino machine had goo dripping down the backsplash wall and the soda machine has black dust on that backsplash. Plates are dirty. Went through 6 plates till I found one with just water spots and no old food on it. I also watch other people look at the plate put it down look at another plate put it down until they found a clean one also. PIBBS in the soda machine doesn’t stop running when you release the lever.
I usually tip big there was only one waitress but not many customers and she only took our plates once while our other plates just set there how much of a tip does that constitute when her only job seems to clean tables seems to be to clean the tables?
Salad bar was fresh but the bananas that were in the jello were brown. I haven’t been here in a long time but I don’t remember it being like this. I remember good country cooking, great service, and better food. It is President’s Day so you would think they would expect more high volume of people due to the amount of people that have today off but they seemed short staffed in every department.
The dessert area didn’t have anyone working there. It was quite a mess and of course that’s from customers. But it was also a lot of things there were no sprinkles for ice cream there are no Oreo cookie bids for ice cream and the Oreo cookie with that were there were mixed in with the fruity pebbles that were for ice cream. It was a very unappetizing mess. The pecan pie tasted like it was straight out of the freezer. And my coworker said her brownie ala mode was sitting there too long. My coworker never even finished her meal, she left hungry.
I gave an extra star because I felt bad about wanting to give one star. There wasn’t much to choose from for food but it seems to always be the same kind of food just taken care of and presented better at the other places.
I don’t think we will be back to this specific Country Buffet. A few months ago I ate at the Country Buffet in Wilkes-​barre and gave them a great review.

I went here twice just to make sure i gave the right review. both times the food was pretty good and the place passable for the word clean. the staff were constantly cleaning up after people at the salad bar were making a mess. but overall i wouldnt mind going again.

F*ckin waiters have no teeth. No fish sticks but free herpes. The ice cream machine is hard to find but herpes is easy to find in this sh***y buffet. Yo but dat country fried steak is dope. I recommend eating a d*ck before eating here. Pretty sure the chef has a passion for making people dissapointed. If you eat here you will get herpes. Js…

I’ve heard a lot of negative chatter about this place and cannot understand it. Ive gone at least 10 times and have not had a bad experience. The salad bar is always fresh and crisp, the ham and steak were always juicy and tasty. The rolls fresh and soft. The green beans are my favorite side. They also offer cash back when you pay at the beginning so you have cash to tip.
fried chicken, ham, popcorn shrimp, meatloaf, fish, spaghetti, mac n cheese, green beans, broccoli, mashed potatoes, stirfy station, taco bar with salsas Pico de Gallo sour cream cheese sauce and shredded cheese taco meat tortillas. typical buffet food. Consistant quality. You also do not have to wait around for a server to bring your drinks as the fountains are self serve. They have sodas, juices, milks, coffee and a slushe machine.
Condiment station at the end of the dessert area is pretty comprehensive.
I love this place.

Over price dinner very limited food selection and on top of that they don’t replenish often. dirty plates and silverware. Sad to see the place going downhill use to love coming here.

Tonight was bad… burnt food or raw food.. manager snapped at me when I asked if I could get a roll that wasn’t raw… quality control doesn’t exist at all.. bakery was disgusting and they no longer carry sugar free deserts except for a ranger cookie.. However the waitress was so nice and attentive and tried to tell kitchen about problems… to bad she wasn’t in charge then the manager who couldn’t care less and wouldn’t speak to customers about the problems..

This place is disgusting !!! Everything here for the most part was gross! Nasty. Stay away!!! Honey Boo Boo can be found here!

Unbelievable buffet selection with exceptionally perfected recipes, both American and from around the globe. Selection enormous. Ponderosa is good, but this place outshines them. Can only say good things about Old Countery :}. Drinks are self service, with a bus-​person attending to tables.
Everybody seemed happy here, even the little babies — you“re sure to find something they’ll like here.

The food there back in the days was really good, but now it sucks the food is cold I don’t recommend this place.

THIS IS A LONG REVIEW {SORRY ! } BUT NECESSARY TO DESCRIBE ALL THAT WENT WRONG AT THIS PLACE!
Too many problems. We have been to many other buffets and this one was NOT one of our favorites. The food was below par for the most part in my opinion & my husband agrees. Here is an example: the ‘Seafood Salad’ was mostly made up of ‘pasta’, roast beef was cooked to a dried out brown lump.& I could go on and on but I won’t.
I found the best things available here were these items: Fried chicken, fried shrimp {the ones with the tails on}, dumplings with gravy, corn pudding,{A lot of the ‘other’ dinner food did not taste good}. These deserts were good: peach cobbler, apple cobbler, coconut pie, the thick chocolate chip cookie, and fudge, the other deserts looked good but where pretty tasteless.
There were also some other serious problems with this place which I will describe now.
The floors were wet & sometimes greasy in spots and my feet slipped right out from under me and the food slid right off my plate, thankfully I caught myself just before I nearly hit the floor & avoided any injury to myself. I was wearing low cowboy boots which I never had any problem with slipping in before that day and I am young & don’t normally have any problems which cause me to fall.
2 huge bus loads of Asian kids from Korea came in just after we arrived at the buffet, about 1 – 2 hours before closing time, THEY ATE UP MOST OF THE FOOD ON THE BUFFET! Especially the small selection of seafood that was available, leaving VERY LITTLE food left for us to chose from! The few better food selections were left empty & we were disappointed.
As for desert we were appalled at what happened next: THE WOMAN IN CHARGE OF THE ICE CREAM AREA CLOSED IT DOWN EARLY!!! Because she said and I quote ««THE KIDS WERE MAKING A MESS OF THE ICE CREAM AREA AND I WON’T CLEAN UP AFTER THEM» so as a result the kids were DENIED the ice cream they were owed & had paid for & SO WERE ANY ADULTS that were there at that time. The ice cream option was paid for as part of everyone’s entrance fee for the buffet which we were all denied because of that ice cream workers laziness & selfishness who was in charge of the ice cream area. I’m shocked that the manager let her get away with closing it early, shame on him!
A man came in just before the buffet was closing & he was told by the woman at the register at the point where he came in to pay for the buffet «YOU WILL HAVE EVERY THING AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO EAT THAT THE BUFFET NORMALLY HAS ON IT, AND YOU AND YOUR COMPANION WILL BE ABLE TO EAT HERE WITH NO PROMBLEM EVEN THOUGH IT IS LATE.» After he had already paid his money & the couple entered he and his comopanion were told by someone else working there ‘TO MAKE UP YOUR PLATES AND LEAVE.’ Then this man started YELLING at the top of his lungs, & HE WAS FURIOUS AFTER HE REALIZED THEY HAD PUT AWAY ALMOST EVERYTHING ON THE BUFFET ALREAD AND WAS TOLD TO GET A PLATE OF FOOD AND LEAVE AFTER HE HAD ONLY JUST ARRIVED!!! I don’t know if this establishment ever gave him his money back or not because we left the buffet as the yelling continued. We felt very bad for the man who was yelling & also for his companion.

I can always enjoy a good meal at OCB. Another great experience.
