Steep Canyon Trailhead

Great spot for hiking in diamond bar. The steep slopes offer great leg workout. No shade at all for this trail, so get your gears ready for sun protections!

Very nice find, thanks to Unilocal.I love how this trail takes you through the hills and gives you a good view of Diamond Bar and Walnut. Lots of incline and decline, so it makes for a thorough walk. My friend and I kind of got de-​trailed near the end, before you incline and head back down the stairs… I think the signage gets wacky there.
Also, since there is no physical address for this trail, just map from Unilocal (it will route you to right where the trail entrance is) or just remember to turn onto Clear Creek Canyon Drive and just follow the road all the way — it will lead you to the trail entrance.
Easy trail overall, highly recommended for locals. Will definitely be back.

Perfect trail, it’s only about 2 miles but the incline is intense, I liked the stairs throughout the trail was also a plus.

This trail is great for what it is, a short, easy hike. It has a few steep hills that you have to power through, but most of it is pretty calm. The trail does loop around to the other side of the Diamond Bar Center, and you do get a nice view of the surrounding area from the top of the hills.
Just be careful about one of the steep dips towards the end of the hike. There is a sign posted on THE OTHERSIDE of the dip indicating that it is not a trail.
Overall this trail is pretty good for you to start working up to tougher trails.

Steep it is! But not too steep!
I think if you are willing to be tired for a short portion of the hike or you want a little more challenge for the hike this place will do.
Not really a hike I prefer since not a lot of shade is available but it’s quick and great for beginners.
About 4 miles round trips since our party took the long/​wrong route.
It felt great to feel my cabs during the steep hike!
Definitely will try this place again soon!

Great hiking spot in this small little city! It’s a great workout for a good burn on the glutes and hammies. Lots of inclines and not too much flat areas. Bring a lot of water during the summer because there isn’t much shade. The views are pretty nice and they have a bench or two on the top if you wanna sit and catch your breath. It’s not a super long hike, but it will make you sweat and work to the top. Probably not the best for novice hikers. Wear good shoes!

Really good interval trails for hiking. I just can’t believe that my two friends carried their kids, for at least half of the way.
I would definitely recommend to go before the Sun starts getting hot… probably get there by at least 8 or 9 a.m.

Living in Diamond Bar does has it perks as this trail is just around the corner. It’s not really too long of a hike but the incline is pretty tough for like one like myself that isn’t in shape. Great spot to take your dog out on a walk and there is a doggie bag near the stairway so do pick up after your pets.

One of the more challenging hikes I’ve been on! You immediately go up a steep incline if you enter through the residential side. The distance is just at 3.81mi if you hike the whole thing.
This trail has a magnificent 180 view of the city and on a clear day you can see dtla. They have signs also that show you what mountains you’re looking at from afar (old Mt baldy being one of them).
Love the natural beauty that surrounds you and the trail is clear throughout so there’s no confusion unless you decide to go off road make your own path.
It can get pretty hot though as most of the greenery are shrubs and bushes so make sure to come prepared & bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
I was very pleased with the intensity of the hike and can’t wait to come back!

I love come here for convenient way to run hills when I want to. This place is pretty nice, but I would recommend that you come here during the early mornings or in the evenings, there is no shade at all. The trails are short and you will see many people come here walking their pets and getting a short workout. Something to be watchful of is that there are many red ant colonies, so if you take a quick break watch out for where you stand or sit. Additionally, there are no public restrooms nearby so you may have to plan a head.

I think this place is great place to go to get a quick run and the hills also are great for that too. But, I would plan ahead if you do come here, early morning or evenings are best to avoid the hot sun.

have been here twice and its good but make sure you dont go out late or make sure you take a flashlight cause i encounter like 3 big snakes on the trail good thing i had a flashlight and i was able to see them before i step on one .so keep your eyes open !!!

Neat little trail in diamond bar.
This trail is fairy short but it does the job if you’re itching for a hike but don’t want to drive 30 miles.
The view up there is nothing spectacular, lots of suburbs below.
It’s a pretty open with no shade.
The steep parts are pretty steep but the rest are very easy.

Great trail run. Has lots of beautiful scenery… plants, trees, flowers, and sometimes furry little animals. The trailhead has a few different entrance options and different pathways. Usually between 2 – 3 miles either way. My favorite part about this trail is the steps! and parking is always avialibale.

It was a steep hike that’s for sure .didn’t see any snakes but there’s snakes signs everywhere …

Will definitely be coming back here sometime, since I learned that this trail takes you right to the Diamond Bar Civic Center, and from what I know the DB Library is not far from the civic center.
Overall great trail, great workout — moderate to high intensity level if you’re going all the way around. Lots of families and wide, open space too, not creepy. Good family outing opportunity

I’ve got an itch to explore and hike California. So today I needed a quick local fix and headed over to steep canyon.
I began my hike with my dog zeus at the bottom of the «stairway to heaven» (well that’s what the stairs looked like to me. lol) These stairs aren’t to bad, but oh boy once you get to the top of the stairs your uphill battle with the dirt and gravity begin to take a toll on you. This is a great workout for every muscle in your legs. What will enhance the workout is the location of this trail in orientation with the sun. The sun beats down on this trail like the Mojave desert. Now mind you it’s the summer and I began my hike at 7:15am and at this point, it was already hot, so I recommend not hiking here past 930 or 10am in the summer or waiting until the evening.
The hills are quite steep on the paths as you twist and turn throughout the trail. Along the way the trail does have info kiosks displaying information about the history, the animals and the trail itself. The trail also offers a few benches dispersed about for the much needed rest you will undoubtedly need. Well I needed them, and I consider myself to be in decent shape for a guy in his soon the be late 20’s (yah don’t remind me I’m getting old)
Today was my first time and I was able to navigate the paths with ease. Through out the hike there will be breaks in the path which will lead you to different paths, choose one and hike. They all seem to lead back to the primary hike at some point. If not then turn around!
This is a great exercise path through the dry brush. It’s not a hike through the forest or wilderness but it’s some good exercise. I was definitely sweaty along with zeus panting in need of water as we completed the hike.

Take lots of water if you want to do stair sets. Kicked my butt.

I was feeling very lethargic one of these lazy summer nights; I decided to go on a hike. It was 7:00 pm and the sun was setting so I had to get to a trailhead, fast! I’ve been coming to this hiking trail for years now and I find it to be the perfect combination of short and rigorous. You can easily do the full trail (1 ~ 1.5 mile) in about an hour. At the top of the initial stairs, you can go left (steep incline) or right (more leveled). I always love to embark on the steeper paths to gain altitude and a higher vantage point quicker. This place is very dry, not much greenery during the summer. The paths are man made and there is no way to really venture down hidden avenues. I love traveling down the path less traveled.
*** TIPS ***
— If you do decide to take the loop, you will end up at the Diamond Bar Community Center. This is a far walk from the trailhead.
— Be careful of the decline, there is lots of rubble and stones that may cause you to slip.
— Once at vantage points, map and plan which route you want to take next.
— This is a pretty easy trail, lacks variety in your routes.
— No water fountains or shade, so bring water to stay cool. B-)

This hike is loop and great workout without shade. Great view of city of Diamond Bar. I started the hike at 1 pm. Luckily me, isn’t hot and its had nice breeze at top.

Canyon Route Trail. Which Is also steep trail. There is short cut back to Steep Canyon trail where the sign «Area Closed Beyond This Point» Trail with Arrow. But is kind of short and steep
I finished this 1 ½ hrs w/​break for taking pics. Since, I hike a lot the incline doesn’t bother me. I had learned to look down instead of up, this way I cant see how steep it is.
For beginners, make sure you stretch out before start. You dont want get your legs cramp. Also, a set walking poles help with incline and downhills. And tts help on your knees.
Don’t forget hat, sunblock and water. there is no bathroom on the trail.
And the trail have a lot of flies.
