Shreducate Skateboarding Academy

Such a disappointing experience and waste of time. My 4 year old boy expressed interest in skateboarding… and after having an amazing summer where he learned to swim and body board with private lessons in 2 weeks I thought going private for skateboarding would be great. My son is the type a kid like most boys are a little squirrelly at first but with the right techniques he is quickly sucked in and thrives quickly… he was on a two wheeler in 5 min… so I thought this was going to be awesome. He first day I observed I was quickly impressed with the instructors positive approach and ability to get my son on a board right away. And even though I saw no actual plan or teaching skill I just thought it was a good idea to build trust and fun with some free skating. But then the next lesson after I had paid a month in full I quickly saw a decline in the instructors abilities and energy… no better way to describe it as lazy! I returned for a couple of lessons and things only got worse… super lazy and no teaching skills. I get that you are a skater laid back vibeyyyyyy whatever… but you cannot market yourself as a teacher if you don’t have the skills to teach all types of kiddos. Needless to say… classes were done… he actually refused to teach our 4 year old son his final lesson had us wait for him to grab a 20 bill from his van to refund us the last class… I couldn’t believe how unprofessional this guy was! As a teacher and aba therapist myself I was mostly shocked at his total ignorance on working with children… and it was only further proven when I observed a different teacher at the skate park teacher with so much excitement energy and skill… I found myself feeling like an idiot for not observing before hand to find the best. Oh well… mamas beware… do your homework first before you invest time and money and your kids excitement into it with these guys!

I’ve never skateboarded in my life so when my 4yr old son wanted to learn, I asked around and was referred to Coach Joey. He is awesome with kids … My son loves his lessons and my 5yr old daughter has jumped in as well. Joey even took our toddler for a little ride. Everything is safe, fun and compared to other kid activities you get so much value.

Our 12 year old kid had a great time this summer at one of Shreducate’s week-​long camp, this one in Diamond Bar. I believe they run camps in other locations in So Cal, including in Costa Mesa, and offer private lessons and do special events.
The owner/​instructor Joey Lopez, is simply a down-​to-​earth great guy, and genuinely loves the kids. Also assisting him was Chris, an instructor’s aide, who was equally friendly and connected just great with the kids. It was a good feeling to know that our son was learning proper skateboarding techniques and doing so from guys who love the sport.
