History
Established in 1975.
In 1974, Whitewater Challengers scouted the Lehigh River, and began offering guided rafting trips the next season. Before long, the Lehigh River Rafting Center introduced mountain biking, paintball, ziplining, overnight camping, and a host of other activities to its menu of outdoor adventures. Later still, the company branched out to include Class IV-V rafting trips on the Hudson River Gorge, the Lower Moose River and the Black River Canyon, all in upstate New York. Today, Whitewater Challengers is one of the largest, most successful guided whitewater rafting organizations in the world.
Meet the Business Owner
Ken P.
Business Owner
Ken first arrived at the Lehigh River in the Pocons in 1974. He founded Whitewater Challengers with two rafts, two employees, a tent (for sleeping overnight in the nearby state park) and a pickup truck. In addition to paddling, Ken has a passion for cycling, having completed the Pacific-to-Atlantic crossing of the US twice — once solo, and once with his youngest daughter, shortly after her participation in Beijing as a member of the US Olympic Field Hockey Team. Ken and a team of Whitewater Challengers managers competed as a team in the World Whitewater Championships, hosted in Turkey by Project R.A.F.T. — finishing 7th out of a field of 47. Since 1974, more than a million and a half people have enjoyed whitewater rafting with Whitewater Challengers, compiling more than 1.6 million miles of rafting trips — equal to more than 30 round trips to the moon — and compiling an impeccable safety record along the way!
