Delaware Seashore State Park

This wasn’t as bad as expected. It’s cheap and easy to get to but it is so close to the highway. But remember you can shashay your tan behind up to Cape henalope for FREE with your paid camp tix. Just get a thingy. Thing. The bathrooms are large and also useful. I’ll stop there.

DSSP is a large state park with camping, beaches, fishing, boating, etc. We have camped here for the past seven years. Yes the RV campsites are close together. If you have camped at Castaways it is about the same amount of space only it costs $ 40. per night and you walk to the beach which is beautiful. They have new tent campsites that are contained in an area closer to the inlet, they seem really nice. There are no trees, the park is located between the ocean the inlet and the bay. The location is great, between Dewey/​Rehoboth and Bethany. We have been fortunate, have never had a problem with noise or ignorant neighbors (however this could happen anywhere). My only concern is the security, the fact that the campground is next to the inlet fishing area and that anyone can park and walk right into the campground. The campground is run in part by camp hosts, some have been good, some clueless. For the money this is one of the best 50 amp full hookup RV campground options In the area.

The North Inlet side of the campground for RV owners is perhaps a best kept secret in Delaware! Bring your Rv right to the beach for $ 40/​night, awesome! Have been here twice this season and enjoy the short walk to the beach (2 – 3 mins?), the spacious sites, extremely quiet nights and proximity to other attractions. I don’t fish but there’s a walkway where many fish throughout the day. Playground is nice and I would give it a 5-​star review if only you could buy more than ice at the main gate. So come fully stocked.

This past weekend a couple of friends & I got together to go camping. We’ve been camping elsewhere this past summer, but this was certainly a different experience. Right past a busy and crowded town and over the beautiful Indian River Inlet bridge (it’s blue at night) this is where the campsite happens to be. None of us had been here before and it certainly didn’t look much like a campsite.
We had a non-​hook up spot and it reminded me of a giant festival and everyone just pitched a tent near each other. Each site was in the open so your tent was a couple feet from some random strangers. There were six of us and we got two sites next to each other. The tent next to us did get a park ranger flashing a light on them after 10 for being loud. Dogs must be on leash and we were reminded of this once in a stern voice.
Dogs are not allowed on the beach, which was a huge disappointment, but it was also super windy and cloudy the main day we were there. Most people we ran into were very friendly. There was one fire pit and were told it had to be out by 10. A campground worker actually came over and gave us a huge jug of water to put the fire out and extra firewood. Roasting s’mores and drinking by the fire was awesome! A couple of people joined us real quick, but respected our use of the space.
I would definitely recommend getting the tent only sites. They a little more privacy and space. The bathrooms were kept clean. The skies were full of stars. The bridge traffic at night when you’re sleeping can get a bit noisy. Lots of people here were fishing. No trash cans– what you bring in you, you bring out.
Would I come back? Possibly.

I have been going to this state park for many years. It has hot showers and a concession stand. All Delaware State Parks have a «carry in carry out» policy, meaning that any trash you have leaves with you. They provide trash bags in the entrance and at the pay booth. This beach is clean and actually off the beaten path. Alot of people don’t even know its there!

We enjoy coming here, and have camped here twice (in a trailer). The facilities are quite nice. However, this weekend has been much busier, and it’s clear that the quiet hours are just a suggestion. We brought earplugs, but they weren’t enough to block the bongo drums (literally) at 1130 pm. I would not recommend coming on a summer weekend if you want it to be a restful one.

This is pretty much the equivalent to camping in a Walmart parking lot. I don’t even know how this place constitutes a park as there is no green space. It’s basically a trailer park on the side of the road. Unfortunately we didn’t realize this until we arrived and had booked two nights of camping. Not only were the campsites $ 40 (more than any I’ve been to) but they were non refundable. The staff was nice but pretty ignorant. Apparently this is a good place for fishing but that’s about it. I would strongly recommend Assateague National Seashore about 40 min south if you’re looking to camp near a beach.

Come here every year to surf fish and enjoy the water. It helps that I have a beach tag for my vehicle so just drive out onto the beach waterfront. That helps eliminating to have to look for parking and dragging my gear to beach.

Great place to stop for regular fishing, surf fishing, and also bait & tackle. They have a large bait & tackle shop and if you catch any fish, they will clean them as well.
The new Indian River Inlet bridge is amazing and light up at night. The beach section is very nice but will get really crowded around holidays.
The best part of this Delaware State Park is the fishing. You fish off the rock piers from both sides but be warned that the Indian River Inlet hosts one of the strongest and dangerous currents on the east coast.

This is a nice place to make a quick stop /​picnic bathrooms are available. You have to pay to get in we came in after 5 so it was free. They have showers here after swimming. I didn’t see any life guards so I’m not sure how safe it is considering how big the waves are. If your looking for a place to spend the day I wouldn’t pick this park if your looking for a late afternoon /​sunset breeze on the beech I would recommend it. The major problem is I didn’t see a single trash can so at the end of the evening everyone had trash everywhere. Overall mediocre did the trick for our BBQ after swimming in ocean at another beach that didn’t allow grilling.

we love this stretch of beach for 4x4ing,…on the weekends its packed, however on the weekdays and off season you can drive on and have a mile or so each way with nobody around… You must have a beach tag, that is good for the calander year, and certain equipment, (shovel, tow rope, etc), you also must be fishing, ;)…Its alot of fun,…just research what you need… and PLEASE, take your tire pressure down to 20 psi or so… there are plenty of air stations as you depart… I’ve found Faithful Steward, and Conquest Beach the best areas

It is a parking lot with nothing more than gravel parking spaces with a little sand mixed in to pitch a tent. If you must camp here. MAKE SURE YOU GET A «TENT SITE»!! The other sites are literally parking spaces in close proximity to the road where «fisherman» drink till midnight on the side of the road not recognizing the 10:00 pm quite hours. There is no parks rangers enforcing any kind of smoking, noise or general ignorance from the other campers.
The bridge is also beautifully illuminated by a 300 foot night lite which blocks out any type star gazing or ability to sleep in the dark without a coffin. The road noise is wonderful as well. Since you are literally 2 to 3 feet from your neighbors, you will hear every breath and clink or bang of a pan or slamming of the door 5 spots down.
DO NOT under any circumstances think you will get to bed before midnight here.
It only gets two stars because the staff and hosts are nice. Other than that. This is not a state park, it is a rest stop!!!

This park includes quite a substantial length of territory.
I find the oceanside beaches somewhat unpleasant because of the large vehicles that crowd it and the whole surf fishing thing. This is where you see the natives of Delaware who don’t live in Rehoboth. This side doesn’t have the views of Cape Henlopen either. I don’t have any experience with the campgrounds or marina.
However, the interior beaches on the bay are some interesting opportunities for wading in calmer and warmer water with less distractions. Wildlife here is more visible and less likely to be dangerous.
None of the beaches have lifeguards. They do allow dogs, and dogs tend to enjoy the open space. On the whole, I’d rather be here than on one of the beaches in town.

The campground at Delaware Seashore State Park is pretty much just a sandy parking lot. The are no trees, no privacy, and no open fires allowed. My wife and I stayed in the tent camping area, which is the closest part of the campground to the bridge. The traffic noise didn’t bother us much since it was constant but there was a slight blue glow from the bridge all night. For some reason there were a ton of other young lesbian couples also staying in the tent camping area. Also a few large families who stayed up late, got up before 7 am and we’re really noisy. The RV area tended to be more families and older folks.
Luckily, the campground is very close to Dewey beach, which we really enjoyed. if you opt to drive over to the beach, your campground tag gets you into the beach for free. The campground bathrooms were okay, but we found the bathrooms at the beach to be nicer, so we showed there after swimming in the ocean instead of using the campground showers at night.
One more thing to keep in mind, the campground floods during heavy rain. We arrived right after a big storm and most of the roads and some of the tent sites were completely underwater. The woman at the gate suggested that if our site was underwater, we should just go out for dinner and hope for the best when we returned. Luckily our site (T22) drained but the group in the site at the far southeast corner of the campground (T21) was not so lucky and had barely any dry ground to pitch their tent.
Honestly, we will probably come back to this campsite because the location is good, it’s close to the beach and downtown Rehobeth, and the price is much more affordable than any of the nearby hotels. It’s not someplace I would want to hang out but it’s okay just as a spot to pitch a tent.

If you’re looking for a convenient location near to Rehoboth Beach, then this is a terrific spot. The staff were really nice, too, and there seemed to be fun programs for families each night (including a really nice guitar-​playing gentleman, who serenaded the kids making s’mores at the one campfire allowed).
However, I tend to prefer campgrounds with an outdoorsy or remote, natural feel. So, while my stay here was fine, this wasn’t my favorite spot for a getaway. We found the grounds more than a little crowded, a little louder than preferred, ultimately making it hard to really escape into a true camping feel.
Pros: clean, modern and free showers; friendly staff; easy access to road, beautiful sunset over inlet.
Cons: no campfires allowed; consistent noise pollution from bridge; no trees or other natural elements (except inlet which is a short, pretty walk); campsite dominated by big RVs.

We’ve been this this State Park a couple of times and it is a nice enough beach with decent facilities, as well as access to water sports.

This place is not scenic, nor does it have a fun party scene, it’s just a stretch of pavement filled with RVs located under a noisy bridge. It’s near Dewey Beach, though, so we drove up from DC after work on Friday, rolled in late and then rolled out early Saturday morning to enjoy the ocean. And we most certainly would have, if it hadn’t been cold and rainy. The woman who took our $ 38 at the gate was jolly, and the couple we met near the latrines were nice, too, if disappointed by «all the old people.» Quiet time is at 10 p.m. Dogs are allowed. Get a tent spot if you’re sleeping in a tent so you don’t feel like an ant among all the gigantic RVs («The Conquerer,» «Nature Invader,» etc.).
