History
Established in 2008.
Before I met my husband, I thought people over rated chocolate. I quite liked the truffles you can get in the stores as a treat so when Gary asked me if I would like some brownies I just replied, «Sure, if you want.» Off he went to the kitchen to return with a plate of brownies, I broke a piece off of one of them and as I was watching TV I munched away, I was so surprised, he just grinned.
We didn’t think then that we would be baking brownies for events, stores or parties, but something happened that changed our lives forever.
Gary has always worked in construction everything was going well, when one he fell from a ladder and broke his ankle and needed 9 months of rest. After a short period of time, we realized that his days in construction were over so I simply asked him what it was that he really wanted to do, «Bake brownies» came his reply, «Kitchen’s downstairs» came mine, and The Detroit Brownie was born.
Meet the Business Owner
Julie R.
Business Owner
I never thought I’d be a business woman. The ability I have, to ‘see’ what is needed to move a company to the next level, whether this is the launch or expansion of the company, is a gift from God. Let me explain…
As a young girl growing up in the UK, I remember going to the fish and chip shop in the village we lived in with my dad. The shop had just changed hands and they were changing the name of the business. I liked the old name better and so we talked about it. Dad explained that it was all about identity and what the owner was looking to establish. I was fascinated by what he had to say and thought of the endless possibilities of names for the little fish ‘n chip shop and I became curious about business development and the success of a company.
I remember the day it was announced my dad had lost his job, I’ll never forget his face, but I saw the new circumstances differently to him, as a way to move forwards rather than a set back and said so, the rest is history.
