Had a wonderful experience with Maurice. He was prompt, professional and really pleasant to deal with. My Suzuki wouldn’t start in my garage and Maurice recommended his friend Ty the tow guy. Maurice called me when my car got to his shop even though it was close to his closing time. The next day, my car was fixed and ready to go. Easiest experience ever and well worth the $ 165 ($ 65 towing, $ 100 for the fix).

Would def go back. Had an issue and no go-​to mechanic. Searched around midtown and saw his place had the best ratings, for good reason. Brought car in, within 24 hours had an idea of the issue. Unfortunately, I didn’t want to spend the money to get it fixed, but they helped me think about all my options.
Also, they quoted me on the diagnosis and then didn’t even charge me. Appreciate that help.
Would def go back.

Had a good experience with Maurice when I brought in my Toyota Camry to have my break booster replaced. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, thorough and went above & beyond any other mechanic I’ve ever been to. There was one mistake his technician made during the repair, however when I returned Maurice promptly identified & fixed the issue. The rates were fair & he even put some extra time in to ensure my car was running smooth again. I would take my car there for service again in the future.

I called Maurice’s at 9:05 cause I had a car problem on my way to work. He asked me to bring my car to him. He personally met me at the garage door, solved my car problem and had me to work by 9:50. I was surprised Maurice dropped what he was doing to get me back on the road. He knows what he doing and didn’t rip me off. Highly recommended.

Im on a long tour round trip from Los Angeles with my band .we played in Detroit last night and it was the end of the line for the back brakes on my GMC Yukon. Hit up Unilocal for the right mom n pop place and it dropped me deep in the mass of hood detroit. Maurice personally helped me and got me out the door even though there were many other cars in front of us. Highly recommend this place for its service and quality on the fly on the run. they are efficient, honest and worth the extra time if you don’t live in the metro area of detroit. Don’t go to like pep boys or Firestone because you will pay twice the money and get a lesser quality job.

Maurice helped me out of a jam. I work in Detroit but live in Ypsilanti and my car was overheating when I left work. Maurice immediately went into crisis mode and figured out what was wrong and sent for the part. He stayed late that day to help me out and I was able to drive home. That kind of service gets repeat business and I will talk him up to anyone who asks about auto repair.

Excellent, fast service. I had a problem with my muffler and I was able to drop off my car as soon as they opened the next day. They repaired it within hours and charged less than I expected. Instead of trying to sell me a new muffler, they just welded the old one back together instead. I don’t want to spend anything more than I have to on a 192,000-mile car, so I really appreciated that! Everyone I spoke to there was very courteous as well.

Yes, Maurice is a nice guy!, sounds knowledgeable but the best part is that Maurice rode in the car, so he could hear the new noise, (yes right after I had 2 control arm assemblies and 2 outer tie rods installed) Maurice thought the noise was Sway bar links… No it was his employee (ase certified??? I hope not!) Letting me drive away with 2 out of 3 bolts actually properly secured! Obviously there was no care to use a torque wrench on those important bolts… I contacted Maurice and he said why don’t you come back and I can tighten up for you… I chose to tighten it myself and stay away from having repairs done by his crew.
Make your own decision… It’s not like the cost of labor is that great of a deal compared to others in Detroit…
This is not a review of Maurice himself servicing my vehicle, but a Technician of his not finishing his job by double checking his work… Mistake?

Everyone knows the struggle of finding a mechanic that is awesome… Well look no further than Maurice! His shop goes out of the way to provide excellent customer service. I’ve been a few times and each time I have gotten my car back the same day and for the exact price that I was quoted. I never feel like I’m being taken for a ride and he never tries to talk you into extra stuff. Just a great experience… Which is hard to say when you’re talking about cars!

Maurice is an extremely knowledgeable and reliable mechanic. I had an issue with my brakes and called him to ask if he could schedule an appointment to work on my car. He basically diagnosed the issue over the phone, and told me to bring it in that day. I dropped my car off at 12:30pm. At 5:00pm he called me, had already fixed my car, and came in under the estimate! He even kept the shop open late so I could make it in and pick my car up after work.
An amazing experience! I will defiantly bring my car back, and recommend this shop to all my friends.

Maurice is knowledgeable and has integrity. He worked quickly, and the price was right! Another plus: a spotless bathroom! I will refer everyone I know to him.

Maurice provided an exceptional experience. He was able to turn around my brake fix within a day. Furthermore, rather than up charging for new, he was able to fix my caliper because, as he described, «it was not included in the original quote». He is approachable, friendly and welcoming. He will have my business as long as I am here in Detroit for school. As a Jeep Wrangler owner, a mechanics’ trust is important (as we tend to beat them up). I highly recommend him.

I returned to Maurice’s shop to have him fix my rear brake line and replace my rear brakes on my 02′ Wrangler. I was very pleased to deal with his enthusiastic and helpful nature. He was able to turn around the fix within the same day. Everyone in the Detroit area should know this mechanic.

It is hard to find a mechanic you feel entirely comfortable with and trust. I am happy to recommend Maurice as that mechanic.
I shopped around Detroit for someone who could bandage my beat up dodge truck, and most everybody gave me huge estimates and, when I asked them to prioritize the list of needed repairs, they offered only vague, less than helpful justifications for why the entire list was necessary.
Not so with Maurice — he not only looked my entire truck over and broke down a list of prioritized repairs, but he was completely transparent about the whole process and worked with me on pricing out the work all while meeting a tight deadline (I had a family emergency requiring my immediate presence in another state). As a grad student who is constantly strapped for cash AND time, his effort to go above and beyond merely fixing my truck was impressive.
This shop reminded me of how my family raised me to work and why my father insisted on me learning a trade before going to college. Maurice is a perfect example of what good, honest, and hard-​working tradesmen stand for, and Maurice has secured my business for as long as I live in Detroit. You would do well to utilize his services.

So far so good this guy was really personable and knowledgeable. Trustworthy is the impression I got of him even though I’ve only been there once. Got my ball joint fixed on my 2010 charger (after paying the abusive 112.00 diagnostic fee at my crappy dealer) and he fixed only what he saw was wrong NOT what the dealer tried to up-​sale me for. He showed me my old part, test drove it after and even explained how he had to take the part off. Already planning on taking another car of mine up there for a full body diagnostic check since the check engine light just came on. I recommend this guy now, if something changes on any future visits I will update my review.

Finding a trusty new mechanic is just as stressful as finding a new dentist or health-​care professional. You feel vulnerable, and you’re prone to quacks that take advantage of the asymmetry in information in these types of relationships. (Oh, you went in for a busted tire and turns out your entire engine is going to blow unless you change it RIGHT NOW? Guess you can blindly trust them, or you can be burned to a char on your way to the second opinion.)
As circumstances would have it, my beloved mechanic of six years is now too far away, so I was forced to brave the wilderness again. I called up eight different mechanics with my list of needs (driver’s side window replacement, new tire, catalytic converter repair), and ended up at Maurice’s. I am so glad.
Maurice’s bedside (carside?) manner is soothing and friendly, and when the final bill came in on the higher end of (but still under) the original quote, he was thorough and detailed in explaining the process and reasoning, as well as showing you physical evidence. He’ll also work with you to figure out options based on your priorities.
The atmosphere in the shop was bright, orderly, and airy. There’s always a bag of pistachios on the counter for the staff, which for some reason makes me happy. Who can be in a bad mood after eating some pistachio nuts? Well-​played, Maurice.
I’ve been in the shop three times (once for me, two times with people I’ve referred), and the cars have always been ready SAME DAY, even once when the car was taken in at noon or even later. Incredibly fast service.
I hope I don’t have to see Maurice anytime soon (you know how it is!), but if and when life happens, I know I’m in good hands.

Maurice fixed the problem. However, service could have been much better.
He overcharged me to put on an alternator after asking around to other mechanics.
Also found out my belt needed to be replaced from a different mechanic. Did not get notified from Maurice. Live and learn.

From where I stand, this is a model business. Clean environment, friendly service, and a prompt turnaround made my experience here great. I drive a classic truck and sometimes a shop will tell me they can work on it, only to find out that either: 1.) They lied and nobody there knows what to do with it, or 2.) I have to wait for some special person to show up and do the work. Maurice took care of me, no problem, and I got my truck back by the end of the day.
My only complaint would be the $ 106 (or something very close to that) charge just to look at your vehicle (note: the charge does get rolled into your final bill). That’s steep, but not enough to make me drop a star.

Taking my car to Maurice’s was by far the best decision I could’ve made. My battery light was on so I figured the alternator was on it’s death bed. I took the vehicle into Maurice’s shop before work and was greeted with a smile and friendly demeanor. I got a call in the afternoon saying that it was just the belt that had broken and that my Saturn Ion was ready to be picked up.
Other mechanics might’ve tried to replace both the alternator and battery «just cause» but Maurice and his team (shout out to Wood) did only what was necessary, thus saving me hundreds of dollars. I applaud his work and can honestly say that visiting the shop was the most positive automotive experience that I’ve ever had!

Now this is the kind of local business I love to write reviews about. It’s got all the right pieces for the ol’ heartstrings: family owned for 25 years, son bought it from dad, and lots of local camaraderie and lore.
The first thing you notice when you walk in is that the owner, Maurice, and all of his shop workers are wearing uniforms. The shop is cleaner than most auto shops as well, and they’re busy with a lot of activity going on and cars up on lifts – all good signs.
I needed brakes on my 2001 Ford. Maurice gave me an estimate over the phone and told me that my job would be done same-​day. When I got the car there, he looked at it, and gave me an honest answer: I’d need two new rotors and «hopefully» my calipers were okay because I had been driving on bad brakes for a while (which I totally knew, and really have no good excuse for). I told him to look at the back brakes while he was at it.
I got a call three hours later that the job was done. Two new rotors, new pads, and lube/​check the rest of the brake system. The calipers were good, and he said that my rear brakes were good for now, but to bring them back mid-​summer for replacement. He and one of his mechanics showed me my old parts and showed me how shameful my rotor was (I know, I know, DAD.)
The price he gave me was a lot less than I was expecting, and my car’s brakes are totally silent and like new.
Maurice is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. There’s a lot to be said for taking a car to where the owner’s name is on the building and the owner greets you at the door and takes care of things for you.
This place is very conveniently located to Midtown, Woodbridge, Corktown, and New Center. It’s just north of I-​94 on Woodward.
I’m already planning on taking my car back to get my door fixed, based on the awesome experience I had today.
