MYK Camcorder Repair Service has been in business since 1986 and was started by Min Y. Kim; his initials are the MYK in the business name. Since the business started we treat our customers like family and offer cost-​effective quality you can trust! MYK has been authorized to service Canon Camcorder & Home office equipment for over 14 years! Over the years we have had many happy customers as you can see from our reviews. In the year 2000, John Han took over MYK Camcorder Repair Service and moved the business to its current location in Des Plaines, IL.

John graduated at Kwang Woon Technical high school in Seoul, South Korea and moved to USA. While he was not able to finish his college in USA, just is an expert technician with over 20 years of experience. John Han was a technician for audio video & car stereo system at AVC Tech in Chicago for 3 years. He served as manager & technician of video equipment repair for 6 years in MYK before taking ownership of MYK in 2000.

Highly recommend! Our Sony SR12 camcorder has been great — until the touchscreen stopped working. John was great to work with. I shipped it to him from Seattle, and got it back in less than 2 weeks. John was able to repair it quickly and ship it back quickly — it was only the shipping that took so long. Communication was superb, pricing is very fair. Highly recommend, and we’ll use this company again if we need to repair a camera or camcorder.

My Canon 5D camera would not turn on — and it didn’t look like a simple battery issue. I leave in the area, and based on the excellent reviews decided to bring it in for repair to MYK Camera. I loved that as soon as I came the owner did a couple of basic checks with different batteries to see if my problem could be solved on the spot. That didn’t help, so I left the camera for a more throughout check. The next business day, after the camera body has been opened, inspected, and cleaned, I received an update: water damage beyond what MYK is able to handle. He even took photos to show me what he found inside. I was asked to pay nothing, and after a little negotiating we settled on $ 20, which I still feel was too low for his effort.
Please give this place a chance!

I was really concerned about sending my camera to Illinois to get repaired but I didn’t really have a choice. None of the local shops could repair my broken Canon Vixia HF M41 LCD screen. The worst part was some of the video I had recorded on the camcorder was on the built-​in hard-​drive and because of the broken screen I couldn’t transfer the video. If the repair doesn’t workout then the family video I have on the HD is lost forever!
I checked some Unilocal reviews and MYK repair seemed to be legit so I took my chances. I couldn’t be happier with the service John provided. He was very responsive to my emails and ordered the replacement LCD the day my camcorder arrived at his shop. As soon as I payed he sent me a tracking number for my shipment back. The camcorder works perfectly now.
I’m writing this review in Unilocal so that others have the courage to send their camera equipment to John for repairs.

I finally found a great camera repair shop! John is incredibly fair, his prices are reasonable, and he is very honest. I brought 3 cameras into John and he was able to fix them within a couple days. On one, it needed a new lens, as I had dropped it and bent the lens. On the other, there was an issue with the battery, and the third one, the lens cover wouldn’t close completely. John was able to fix everything right away and for one, he didn’t even charge me, as it was such a simple fix. Most places have your camera for weeks, but John did everything right away for a very reasonable price. He’s such a nice guy! I’ll definitely be taking any cameras that ever need fixing to John and MYK Camcorder Services.

In a time where cassette camcorders have been outdated for years, it’s nice to come across a repair shop that still services these types of equipment, especially when you consider that there are still millions of people with these recorders and billions of cassette tapes that have yet to be transferred to dvd, cloud, etc…
I had an issue with my sony camcorder which didn’t allow me to play any tapes due to some minor issue with the loading mechanism. This went on for months which deprived me of viewing any home movies. The man at the shop fixed it on the spot within a few minutes and charged me a few bucks. What a life saver!
i HIGHLY recommend this place, especially since these type of repair shops are getting harder and harder to find! One final note, as of this writing, they don’t accept credit cards… cash or checks only.

John is exceptional for his technical expertise, his honesty and fairness. I had an audio recording issue with my mini-​dv camcorder. John spent considerable time testing and analyzing the apparent problem. He determined that the issue was not with my camcorder, but with the external microphone I was using. He was very thorough in his explanation. He was also sorry that he couldn’t fix my camera (ha, ha) and so, could not charge me anything!
If and when my camera does develop a problem, I won’t have to search for another repair shop. MYK has my recommendation.

Live in Seattle area and got frustrated trying to get mfg (Panasonic) to supply me a focus ring assembly to replace one I broke. Sent camera to John and he fixed right away and cleaned camera and shipped back for a reasonable price… won’t waste my time on mfg next time, just send it to John.

I dropped my Canon Rebel T3i at a Christmas party and the lens got jammed into the camera body – couldn’t get it off the camera! Luckily, the owner John was able to carefully remove the stuck lens and check the camera body. He did all the work the same day I brought it in – and for half the price a Canon factory center would have charged. In addition, I didn’t have to pay until he knew he could fix the camera/​lens and his communication included photos of his work so I knew exactly what was going on. I hope I don’t need his services again, but in the event I do, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

Just had my Sony HDR-​SR11 repaired. I had received quotes from different repair places and had many quotes. MYK repaired the LCD screen and it works great. I would definitely send my electronics for repair again and paid ½ of what everyone else quoted me.

Fantastic place. this was actually the second choice I picked after making the mistake of first going to Digicam/​LG/​L Electronics. They guy here is friendly professional and knows what he is talking about. He gives free estimates and makes an attempt to save you money by trying to fix instead of automatically replacing parts left and right. He makes his money, you save your money and everyone is happy.
He does great work and I am completely satisfied with the work he did on my Sony NEX-​3. I needed the sd card slot repaired and he did it in one day.
This is a fantastic place that I will use if I have any future camera/​electronic problems. Cant say enough.
