Maxon Shooters Supplies & Indoor Range

My experience here was ok, had better at other ranges. I told them right from the get go that I was new into guns, and they kinda gave me this look like they didn’t want to deal with me, they all seem kind of lazy in general. Besides the customer service, the range is good, and they have a large selections of guns for you to try.

Great range super cool staff frank is a awesome salesman always gets a great deal. They have a great selection of firearms and always new and up to date items. Nice range and super clean. Best place closest to the city to shoot

I finally got some time to get here during lunch hour, which means you can shoot for $ 15, for an hour, and get a pack of targets. It does not get much better than this folks. Clean range, clean air (very important, when using your lead dispenser, i. e firearm) and all around, I have to say, using the range again, was an excellent experience, I hope to come here again, once I have the time to. Charlie was my instructor and he could not have been better! Great guy and very patient with new shooters. This is a good place to go to rent pistols. $ 15 to switch out rentals is a very good deal. I tried 4 – 5 different firearms in the hour. The range lighting isn’t great and not a fan of the narrow cinder block partitions but it gets the job done.

This is possibly the WORST customer service I have ever received. Paid over $ 1,000 for a special order piece was told to come in today Friday after 8:10pm. I walk in at 8:20pm and the firearm is still not in. Never did they notify me to wait for a call until I walk in today. An hour worth of driving for nothing. No apologies no nothing except wait for a call. Not even an update of when I should be expecting the item. If it wasn’t for the cancelation fee I would’ve cancelled my order and gone somewhere else. Very rude horrible service and unorganized. If I could I would give this place 0 stars. Hope management actually does something about this. Which is highly unlikely.

I have only been to an outdoor range so this was very different. The range was very clean and seemed in good shape. The staff was friendly and helpful too. The enforced the rules very nicely and did not make you feel stupid. A few of them actually took the time to explain why not to do certain things I’ve seen some other shooter doing. Prices for a box of 50 9 mm were $ 20 and the range fee I think was $ 21. They also have a fairly large showroom with a variety of different hand gun, rifles and shotguns. Prices for those are about average compared to other locations and online. They also had a $ 10 raffle to win a glock which was great to bring people in.

I’ve shot here only a couple times. The place is clean and the staff is fairly friendly. The lighting is good. Prices are decent. Slightly higher than I would like but they are in Cook so that is to be expected. Not a big deal though.
This was also the first place I ever went shooting and they were friendly to me as a first time shooter.
The place is easy to get to. Give it a try.

When I called today to find out why there was such a huge number of people waiting as they opened (perhaps a class or two) a very unhelpful person kept repeating and repeating that this was a normal day. it’s hard to believe the owner would want that to be said to customers. I’ve been coming here for three years on a regular basis and I’ve never seen such a crowd or such apathetic response from an employee. It was disappointing since we spend a lot of money here on range time and equipment. The employee was an arrogant class A jerk.

I’ve been coming for this place for about a year now. It is a bit pricier than some other ranges I’ve been to but you definitely get what you pay for. The staff is friendly, they keep the range and storefront clean and professional looking, there are plenty of lanes, and the ventilation is about perfect. Usually you pay per hour but If it’s not packed they usually let you shoot to your hearts content. The peak hours are around lunch time and on the weekends so plan accordingly. They can also help you apply for your FOID card and offer gunsmith services. The firearms, ammo, and accessories they have for sale can be pricey but that’s to be expected of any gun store. I highly recommend this range if you need to get some trigger time.

Today I took Pistol Safety I with Jessica. She was an outstanding instructor and the time flew by. The last hour of the course was spent in the range and all participants had the chance to try out a bunch of different firearms. It was an excellent class and I recommend it to all beginners or folks looking to brush up on the basics. I look forward to returning for range practice and Pistol Safety II!

Just got back from Maxon. And I gotta tell ya, it was the best experience Ive had at a gun range ever, anywhere. This surprised me, given the mixed reviews.
Here’s what happened. This place is quite easy to understand. Clean, and the nicest (newest) gun range in Chicagoland by far, and very helpful staff. So what could possibly be bad? How could there possibly be bad reviews of this place?
Well I think I know what it is. If you’re a crusty old shooter (and are concerned with things like «their selection of .45s is 10% overpriced compared to what I can find online» blablabla, then maybe this isn’t the place for you.
But if you’re like me – looking for someone to help, trying to get the hang of shooting, looking for a solid place where I feel comfortable renting a gun for an hour or two to shoot, etc., this is the Chicago gold standard. And I’ve been to the other ones. (And they all made me feel like a know-​nothing preppy idiot.)

Sorry for the long review. In summary, the Maxon employees that I’ve dealt with (mainly the «cashier») have been rude, and they are overpriced.
The only good thing about Maxon is their location. I’ve been there several times, a few times at their old location and a few times at their current location. When I first went to Maxon, the employees were borderline rude. The place was pretty much empty but they somehow made it seem like they were doing you a favor by letting you use their range. I stopped going at that point and instead made the drive out to Article 2 in Lombard or GAT in East Dundee. Further drives but at least the employees were friendly.
When they moved to their current location I used the range a few times. The facilities were nice but still the same complacent behavior from employees. A few weeks ago I emailed to ask how much it would cost for them to assemble a basic rifle for me. I know I could have done it myself but I didn’t have the tools/​work space/​time to do it, and I figured it’d be better to have a professional take care of it. The email response I got from the gunsmith said that it would cost $ 50-​$ 60 to build including test firing, and I could drop it off anytime the store was open.
I brought the parts there and asked an employee at the counter where to drop it off, since the gunsmith wasn’t there. He pointed to an older man sitting at the cashier area and told me to let him know. I walked over there and stood right in front of him for a minute or so while he was messing around on his cell phone. He finally bothered to acknowledge me and I told him that I needed to drop off rifle parts. He told me that he wasn’t the gunsmith, he was the cashier. I told him that the other employees told me to talk to him. He said, «Well, I’m busy right now, you’re going to have to wait.» So I browsed their incredibly overpriced items for several minutes and when he was finished playing with his phone he finally took care of me.
The next day I got a call from the gunsmith, who told me that my rifle was ready. I asked him what the final bill was and he said it was $ 75. I asked him why it was $ 75 when his email said it would cost $ 50-​$ 60. He told me that it was the cost of test firing/​ammo. Even though in his email to me, the $ 50-​$ 60 explicitly included test firing. Whatever, $ 15 isn’t a huge deal, I just wish that the email estimate was accurate, rather than a last minute $ 15 upsell for something that was already included.
When I went to pick up the rifle, I again asked the employees in front where to go. They pointed me over to the same grumpy cashier. I went up to him and this time he was again «busy» filling out some papers. I told him I needed to pick up my rifle and he pointed to another employee and said «There’s the gunsmith, go talk to him.» The gunsmith was chatting with two customers. I stood in front of him, staring at him for maybe 5 minutes or so. No acknowledgement, no «Hi, I’m working with this customer right now, I’ll help you out in a couple minutes», no nod to confirm that he actually saw be standing there waiting, nothing. Finally, the cashier sees that I’m still standing there and says «OK, come over here, I’ll help you out». He obviously could have helped me out instead of wasting my time. He remembered exactly who I was and what I dropped off, he didn’t even ask me for my name or claim ticket when he walked over and picked up my rifle. I paid my $ 75 and got out of there as quickly as I could.
I’m really not sure why so many of the employees at Maxon are complacent, and why they seemingly have no sense of customer service or basic politeness. I understand that they’re one of the few ranges in the area so there’s not too much competition and they’re always pretty busy. Still, you’d think that it’s a common courtesy to not act so insolent and lackadaisical when dealing with customers.

Tried doing an FFL transfer through these guys. They gave me a load of crap and wasted a ton of my time.
They might have a great range and a knowledgeable staff, but when it comes to FFL transfers these guys are way out of their element. They have ZERO clue what they’re doing and will give you bad information and waste your time.
Do yourself a favor and go to a large outfit like Gander Mountain or Bass Pro. Bass Pro had me in and out in 10 minutes from start to finish.
They’re clearly doing some things very well as the store/​range was packed every time I was in there. I wish them all the best, but cannot recommend them for an FFL transfer.

Very disappointed. I used to go to the old store on Rand Road but have since moved away from the area. I decided to check out the new store while I was in town. It looks very nice and very clean. My problem was with the service. There were 4 employees talking to each other and one helping a customer. I walked around, looked in cases, even made eye contact with the staff who were talking to each other but nobody ever asked me if they could help me or show me anything, nothing. That’s too bad.

I am giving a two for one reason, the customer service is better than Article II and GAT combined. Now the reasons I would give a zero. There prices for EVERYTHING are so overpriced it should be a crime. Every gun classification is mor here than anywhere I have been. Of that weren’t bad enough the range fees are crazy. But don’t fret, you get some free $.10 targets if you buy there 50% marked up ammo.

This is only the second range that I’ve been to at it was a overall good experience. The petite female employee was friendly and attentive, unfortunately I didn’t get her. I was serviced by a male with slicked back black hair slightly past ear length. At a point he was condescending which made me want to just leave, not to mention he «forgot» give me product which I paid for. AVOID this employee if possible.
The range is small but it is nicely kept. I enjoyed the cinderblock dividers which made me feel comfortable and with a feelings of solitude. The dividers in the shooting aisle also provided further privacy. The price of ammo was $ 4.00 more than the other range I visited, $ 20 for 50−9mm FMJ.
Overall I will visit this range again hoping for a more positive experience.

Let’s keep this short and simple.
Staff = super friendly.
Shooting range = way too small and crowded. I’m surprised more people don’t end up accidentally shooting because of the total lack of space causing everyone to bump into one another.

I’ll start with the good before I bore you with the bad. It is a new facility with updated ranges, very nice facility. Just be ready to break out your American Express Black card to pay for a lane, targets, and that stupid plastic target hook… yes, plastic hook in a gun range. Dont even try to buy ammo here unless you refinance your house.
The prices in this facility are HIGH! I’m not sure why they mark everything up, but if you have been to other ranges around, you know Maxons is too expensive. Perhaps they prey on the novice shooters who prefer location over price.
The staff is ok… I have been there a few times and I cannot say they have ever been rude, but they wear so much tactical gear behind the counter it makes me think they are ready to retake Baghdad. A couple of these guys had Rambo knives on their hips. Is that for when your Desert Eagle runs out of ammo and you can throw the Rambo knife at someone?
In sum: VERY EXPENSIVE range fees, the staff views themselves as «almost Navy SEALs» or Rambo, and prepare for a 20% markup on everything on the shelf.
A quick word to the wise, pull out your smart phone and look up the same items Maxons has on the shelf with any online retailer… see for yourself the ridiculous prices.

The worst range ever you can go to so much expensive the service is terrible the staff is so disrespectful not helpful not professional at all they charge you for everything 4 time than any another range for target paper 4 $ for stupid plastic hook 2 it’s just big scam ammo they have the cheapest one they sale it so expensive bigggggggggggggggggggggg scam
And the range inside omg so small I we’ll never ever go there I we’ll drive alway to Indiana or Wisconsin just to not go there.
One more thing guys when I got my foid card and my concealed license I went there first time to see what they have omg the guns they have good luck if you want to buy one 1000 $ for 300 gun I’m so thankful for my friend joe he told to buy from this web grabagun so good guys and professional buy transfer to FFL 40 $
Maxon guys they Charge 150 $ for gun and its goes up i don’t understand the owner he need business or what ???

Maxon’s new range is state-​of-​the-​art and oh-​so-​clean! What I love about their new location (they used to be on Oakton) is how modern it is. They have glass panels where visitors can watch people shoot as well as a well-​stocked store that sells everything from Paris-​Hilton-​Zombie targets (complete with zombie-​chihuahua) to gun holsters and guns. They also have a gunsmith on site for all of your gun-​fixing needs. I believe they even have classes.
Their employees are definitely knowledgeable and helpful. I went shooting (probably my 8^th time) and had some issues with my Sig jamming and one of the employees was super helpful in helping me fix it. He was also super helpful when I scratched myself (on myself) while I was shooting a .40 and needed a band-​aid. I know I know. I was THAT person.
For people going to the range:
I believe it’s 22/​person for an hour of range time and there is a 2.00 cash deposit for the target holders. Be ready to spend, though! A pack of bullets, ear protection rental, several targets ended up costing me just over 50.00. [The person I went with paid the range fees.]
Big plus: women’s bathroom is super spacious and even had d-​lead soap!
I will definitely go back to Maxon’s next time I feel the urge to shoot some paper!
