Nice little place for some quick food. Tacos are definitely good, now my review for the mix fajita, it was okay when the waitress brought it, it was steaming a lot, you can hear the meat cooking while it was in the table it really impressed me, now when it came down to the portions I mean you get like five pieces of shrimp and small portion of beef and chicken for like sixteen bucks. Well you also get a salad, beans and rice.
I must say the service was impressive the waitress was attentive and very polite can really complain about the place might go again.

I just had the worst pozole ever. I went in at 7pm and asked for simple pozole since it’s cold outside. What I got was a broth of hominy and overcooked meat. It wasn’t even the color of regular pozole come on. I have had it in the past and was good nothing like was I just had.

Met here with a colleague. Very friendly service. Wide selection of food and drinks on the menu. I ordered the Huevos ala Mexicana, and he ordered the Fajitas. I asked for without sour cream, as I’m very lactose intolerant, and they were very accommodating. They gave us the choice of flour and corn tortillas (for other gluten-​free people out there). Food was delicious. Great portions. The Mexican music was a nice touch. Felt authentic. My only complaint was that the food took a good while to come out, which if I wasn’t on my work lunch break it wouldn’t have been as much of a problem, but something to keep in mind if you’re short on time. There was a couple getting orders to-​go, and they were waiting for quite awhile too. Otherwise I really liked this place and would recommend it!

I try to avoid chain restaurants by any means necessary. While I’m not planning any marches to have them shut down, a perk of living in Chicago is the availability of almost every cuisine imaginable – prepared by local establishments. That luxury can be a bit hard to come by in the suburbs, however, so I tend to bring the majority of my lunches to my office. This helps me avoid 1) the glut of hyper-​commodified chains, or 2) mediocre local food which only meagerly surpasses the «There’s nothing else here, so this will have to do» standard.
When I don’t bring a lunch, I like to frequent restaurants off the beaten track of my fellow commuters, yet likely faves of the locals. Which is what led me to Las Fuentes Jalisco – I wanted Mexican food, but refused to step a single foot into Chipotle. LFJ has a complete no-​frills exterior, tucked in the corner of an impossibly tiny strip mall (…tri-​cluster of storefronts). There was even a delightfully disheveled elderly man in a colorful «ethnic» poncho, perched against a store wall, intently scratching his lottery tickets for the entire time I waited for my order. How’s that for authenticity?
Although I arrived at 11:10am and likely beat the lunch crowd, I was the only customer in the place (which was open since 9am). In comparison to the crowd of people already salivating at the Chipotle (which opened at 11am) when I drove by at 11:30am…yes, I’ll gladly support the little taqueria that could.
But did it actually? I had the chorizo taco dinner, and was quite giddy when the chef assumed I wanted cilantro/​onions as opposed to sour cream/​cheese/​lettuce/​the kitchen sink (which is how several of their dishes were pictured online). Maybe the giddiness came from my hunger, from whatever cinnamony dessert was being cooked in the back, or from the trio of plump goldfish busily attempting to make eye contact with me while I placed my order. *shrugs*
The chorizo actually tasted like chorizo! Sure, it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but my biggest fear was that I’d have a mouthful of mangled, gristly, fill-​in-​the-​blank critter. While I slightly cringed when the chef splashed additional oil to the griddle to cook the sausage, I’m not feeling too nauseous after having the three tacos, and there’s no greasy puddles in my environmentally-​friendly styrofoam container.
The dinner came with refried beans and rice. While the beans had an interesting smoked pepper flavor, I only had one small forkful as who knew the depths of their lardy goodness?
The rice actually appeared to be brown rice, which would’ve been a nice touch had I eaten more than several grains of it.
Did I mention I hate carbs more than chain restaurants?
Having said that, the corn tortillas were incredibly fresh… but a bit oily from that griddlin’! Luckily they were quite sturdy, so I was able to peel off one from each taco, and not have the remaining taco fall apart. I suppose some squirrels are going to have a full belly from my leftovers.
My meal came to ~$ 7, and was incredibly filling yet light. Given that the majority of the meals there were quite reasonable in price, I’m sure someone could just as easily order something «more substantial» and bust a gullet for the same amount of money. Should they be so inclined.
I appreciated that the chef explained how several of the dishes were prepared, what to order in the future if I were pressed for time as opposed to weekends/​dinner, etc. Not sure I’d actually dine in the restaurant – there was nothing horrific about the interior, quite typical for small mom/​pop Mexican places. Plus the plump fish. I just wasn’t a fan of the lack of ventilation, and prefer to not smell like my meals («Eau de Fried Tortilla» is wafting from my hair whenever I move my head, and I was only in the place for 10 minutes).
There was a sign on the door stating that they card hard, so I’m assuming they serve alcohol? Although I don’t see it on my takeout menu. Maybe there’s a tequila bottle hiding in the fishtank?
If I’m ever in the mood for Mexican again, I’ll likely be back for takeout – especially if I don’t discover another place near my office with higher quality food and increased menu options.

My friends and I ordered for delivery from here last night and it was delicious! We ordered a steak burrito, steak fajitas, and a chile relleno. Delivery was fast and the food was delicious. I’ll definitly order again!

Great spot for QUICK & CHEAP tacos. Food quality is good. Bilingual servers welcome english-​speakers… total order 11.50 for 4 tacos and 2 drinks!
