Des Plaines Mobil Oil Oasis

Gas prices are reasonable. I live downtown, work in Elk Grove, usually don’t stop there because gas is cheaper 1 mile south west on Elmhurst Rd. THEIR CAR WASH IS HORRIBLE. Car wash on the south side damaged one of my rims. Thought to use the one on the north side of expressway this time. DAMAGED 2 RIMS on my passenger side! Yes, it was the definition of insanity to expect different results on the other side. However, the real insanity had just begun, I asked to speak with the manager. «Malov» said he was the manager, until I explained what had just happened. Now he was going to have the «manager» call me. Crickets. This was on Thursday 4÷26÷12. I’m sure they are just «getting around to it.» MAJOR DAMAGE TO MY CAR. Proceed with caution and know that the whoever the manager is at that moment will become someone else when you have a problem. Car wasn’t even clean using the $ 9 premium wash… here is the kicker. … HE DIDN’T EVEN OFFER ME A REFUND! Let’s say you’re zooming along on the interstate — blaring music, singing out loud, zoning out — and you’d like to take advantage of a suburban-​priced gas fill up before you hit the city limits.
Only, exiting is too much of a pain. I get it.
Solution: Take the Des Plaines Mobil Oasis exit and fill up quickly, without the pain of red lights, slow drivers and a full re-​merge onto the highway amid hangry commuters.
On another note, why can’t this guy (see below video) ever pull up next to me? It’s always the nose-​picker.

I commute from Rogers Park to Schaumburg a couple of time a week at least. I’ve stopped here a handful of times. If you can not get to Dupage county for gas this place is actually pretty competitive to the rest of cook county.
As for the rest,
— no they are not friendly employees — you trying dealing with dbags for minimum wage all day (and by that I mean 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) and then get back to me on you «customer service»
— the items in the stores are a rip-​off. Again, this is what you expect at gas stations. Remember that the gas profit goes to Mobil and the concessions profit goes (only partly) to the owner who has to pay his employees out of that too
— its right off the highway so there is almost a 0% chance of being a victim of a violent crime… almost

Great place to stop for gas. Always well lighted and clean.
Not much else to say.

As an Oasis goes, the Des Plaines Oasis is A-​OK. Fast in and out for gas. More than enough pumps on busy days. Bathrooms are even clean, which is a rarity for an Oasis. Multiple restaurants if you decide to park and walk around too. Taco Bell, KFC, Starbucks, Subway, etc. Tip: Coming from the west (Schaumburg/​Arlington Heights) you can get the 24 hour McDonald’s drive through. Not from the East (Chicago) though.

Working in Schaumburg, this place is my go-​to for gas, and the occasional water I’m thirsty on the road. If car garbage has gotten particularly bad, I might stop here just to unload it.
I mainly use the gas station, and find it very convenient to also be able to get my car washed here. Convenience, convenience, convenience!
Why the 3 star? Because the people who work at the gas station tend to be pretty unfriendly. Back when I was smoking, I forgot my ID and only needed to buy a lighter – they wouldn’t sell it to me, wouldn’t budge, even though I come here all the time! I didn’t give them a hard time about it, but they were incredibly snappy and rude with me.
Oh, and there are NO healthy snack options here. Everything is processed and high-​calorie. Yuck.

I don’t have to stop here very often, which is good. I just really try to avoid fast food and it would be GREAT if the Des Plaines Oasis had anywhere to buy something slightly resembling real food. I mean, there is a good selection if you just want something quick and cheap. So it’s a bit snobby of me to complain about not having fresh food. But seriously, the only thing I’ve found is an overpriced (and green) banana at Starbucks. Surely they could throw a fruit stand in there or something!!!

«Oasis» is such an appropriate name for this place. If you are heading into Chicago, from the west, and want to fill your tank before you are in the city, this is the place to do it. If you are heading out of the city, to go to IKEA or Medieval Times, this is the perfect snack stop in the middle.
The Des Plaines Oasis is basically a conveniently placed gas station and a giant floating food court in the sky. There is a McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Auntie Anne’s Pretzels (mmm…), and a Panda Express. I’m sure there is more than that, but that’s what I remember. The dining area is bright, clean, and has a neat view of the highway.
The restrooms are also clean and plentiful. What more do you need?

For a highway rest stop, this is definitely a nice place. It’s very clean and easy to navigate (i.e., the restrooms are completely obvious to spot). There are numerous fast food restaurants to choose from plus many people’s must-​have coffee place is represented as well. Also, the idea of standing right above the highway with cars going by in both directions is pretty interesting and offers something different from the usual rest area.
