The Levee on Court is a cool little out door bar with a Bar-b-Q stand as well! Our waiter seemed like he might have been on Happy Mushrooms,(This is a GOODTHING) He was so sweet and kind and really talkative! We were looking at the lights strung across the top of the outdoor bar, and he must have thought we were looking at the birds flying around cause he said, «I wish I was a bird and could fly,» to which I replied, «But then you would have a bird brain,» he giggled and refilled our waters! They have local Confluence beers on tap, which I enjoyed one and I also had a Margarita which was ok, on a nice hot sunny night! They also have wine and other specialty drinks! This has been the perfect Iowa summer for sitting outside and enjoying the weather so I’m happy downtown Des Moines has another great spot to do this!

Delicious tacos and Summer Shandy tall boys — what more can you ask for? The Levee is a patio bar that occupies the patio on Court Avenue, once occupied by Buzzard Billy’s. Because it’s a patio bar, the Levee is only open under certain conditions:(1) the temperature is over 60, but under 100, and(2) there is no rain between 5−7pm. The Levee’s menu has several other options, but the tacos caught my eye. The tacos, which are offered with chicken or shrimp, are really tasty, and have just the right amount of heat. My only complaint about the menu is that The Levee does not offer french fries. Instead, they offer what appeared to be kettle cooked chips. While kettle cooked chips can be tasty, nothing compliments a burger like french fries. I highly recommend The Levee for anyone look for a place for Happy Hour after work, or a place to hangout while perusing the Farmers’ Market on Saturdays. I will certainly return in the near future!
