Gringo’s Cantina

Very fast, not expensive, and is the same every time I go there.
This is not the same mexican food like every other mexican place here in Des Moines. This is the big overstuffed plates that have no seperation between the beans, rice, burrito and salsa.
I don’t work downtown so don’t get to have this but once every few months or so but still most times I show up the guy at the counter says its been a long time and good to see me again. I don’t know him and he doesn’t know me but he remembers his customers.

Bland food… dished out by 2 or 3 people who don’t seem to care. They can’t even smile.
Two visits. Tacos…HOT as hell! Over stuffed with tasteless meat. fresh veggies… you can’t even see the cheese.
Great salsa.
Beef and chicken enchiladas-…will save you from starving.
Out of the 5 – 6 restaurants in this skyway foodcort… there is a reason why Subway… of ALL places here… has the longest lines. There is a reason-​they beat
ALL the others here in this foodcort… and that is not saying much… don’t go here for good food… go here because you are starving and have no choice… same with the spud place connected to this… ah…joint.
Seems this dive opens for an hour or two for the downtown lunch crowd… but you won’t find a line here… people know to stay away!! It is so tasteless… eat a jar of baby food at your desk…

I need Mexican Food, I need it fast, and I need it now! This should be the motto of Gringo’s! It’s fast, and ready to roll four you when you hit the counter. Located on the top floor of the Kaleidoscope building in the Skywalk.
Gringos has very limited lunch hours, but it serves a nitch for sure! Hot beans, and rice, chips and salsa, and your favorite pre made meats and veggies all waiting for you… but only waiting for you between 11am to 2:30ish pm.
The food looks similar to what you may get at a Qdoba, but with way less veggie options. I personally love sit down Mexican places, so Im less intrigue by a place like Gringo’s but, if I was on the run and I wanted something hot, and fast, this food would be my radar.
