History

Established in 2007.

Lisa Daniel has had dogs all of her adult life. In the early part of the new millenium she began to foster dogs for MCHS and volunteer there as a dog handler. Increasingly she felt that she was at the wrong end of the pipeline wherein dogs were dumped at the shelter for behavior problems that could have been addressed. She decided to become a dog trainer in order to help more dogs stay in their homes. Lisa founded Daniel’s Dogs, LLC after apprenticing for a year with 30-year veteran dog trainer, Jean Hodgson Pierson. During that time Lisa has trained hundreds of dogs between her group classes at PetCo and Capital Dog Training Club and her private clients. In that time, she also began doing Obedience and Rally competition with her own dogs — putting 5 titles on her older Corgi, Lucky CDX RE, two on her younger Corgi, Cody RA, and one on her mixed shepherd, Ginger UCD. Lisa’s best reward is helping dogs and families gain a more satisfying relationship.

Meet the Business Owner

Lisa D.

Business Owner

I have been training my own dogs for about 20 years and other people’s dogs for about 5 years. In my first career I was a Ph.D. economist, working at the Federal Trade Commission for 14 years and teaching economics at a variety of universities, including the University of Maryland. In 2005 I began fostering dogs for MCHS. Seeing how many dogs had been given up for behavior problems, I decided to become a trainer in order to help people improve their dogs’ behavior so that they would want to keep them. I began by apprenticing for a year with a 30-year veteran dog trainer, Jean Pierson. I then took PetCo’s training course and have continued to attend weekend seminars from a wide variety of trainers with differing approaches. In 2007 I founded Daniel’s Dogs LLC to do private training on my own. Since 2008 I have also taught at Capital Dog Training Club, where I am now Training Director.
