History

Established in 1974.

Vanguard Dental Group started as a small dental practice in 1974. Since that time, the office has evolved, seeing changes in its name, location and size. Most recently, under the direction of Doctors Craig Rothenberg and Michael Moskowitz, Vanguard Dental Group moved to its current state-​of-​the-​art facility in Pinkerton Place. Today, the Practice consists of two general dentists, providing comprehensive dental and cosmetic care for the entire family (infants, children, teens and adults). The team also includes Pediatric Dentist and Periodontist (Gum & Implant specialist), hygienists, dental auxiliaries and business office personnel.

Business Owner

Dr. Craig Rothenberg and Dr. Michael Moskowitz were classmates in dental school. They trained together and knew they wanted to ultimately practice together. Craig moved to NH and was joined in practice two years later by Michael to start their practice. Michael had just exited his service in the US Navy. These Derry NH dentists have been growing the practice and taking continuing education together, working to create the finest dental practice Southern New Hampshire. They practice comprehensive cosmetic and family dentistry with additional training in smile makeovers and reconstruction. They welcome new patients of all ages to join their practice.

After initially moving into the area, I was in search of a dentist with which to schedule a routine examination. Vanguard looked professional and their staff was courteous on the phone, so I scheduled an appointment.
Upon arrival at the office, I was walked to the back and introduced to the hygienist by a front-​desk staff who related all of my personal information. It felt like a political fundraiser, not a dentist appointment. Once the exam began, everything seemed to be proceeding as normal. A thorough set of x-​rays were taken, and the hygienist performed the exam. The result was a diagnosis… by the hygienist, mind you, not the dentist… of a serious condition that required a significant… and, you guessed it, quite expensive… procedure. Not to worry, though, once the Really Expensive Procedure was completed, they were sure I would be in good shape. The dentist simply entered the room to poke around for a moment and agree with the hygienist. He was barely out of the room before someone was in to discuss a payment plan with me. The really frustrating part was that no cleaning was performed. They wouldn’t move forward with a routine cleaning at all unless the Really Expensive Procedure was performed. And, of course, they made sure to emphasize all of the horrible medical implications that could result from not undergoing said Really Expensive Procedure.
I left quite frustrated. Then I did some research. I could identify almost none of the symptoms that accompanied the condition with which I had been diagnosed. Fortunately, I have a family member who is a dentist, so I had the exam records forwarded to him for review. He concluded that there was no basis for their diagnosis.
Since then, I’ve gone to a different dentist. I told this dental office the diagnosis that had been rendered. They, too, found no justification for the diagnosis. Oh, and they performed a cleaning.
My conclusion from this is that Vanguard Dental Group is much more interested in profiting from Really Expensive Procedures, whether they are necessary or not, than they are about providing good dentistry. Their office looks nice, but the surface polish conceals an approach to dentistry that is all about business, not about patient care. I certainly won’t be returning.
