The Regency

The staff here pride themselves on taking advantage of young people moving out into the world for the first time.
They do not provide proper information upon lease signing, leaving the college student to be bombarded by bullshit fees that were not clearly explained in the lease signing.
The lease signing itself made me feel rushed and uncomfortable. I was suckered into signing and was rushed past the fine print.
I do not recommend this place, management is shady and have withheld my mail from me upon my move out. I hope they get investigated.
Plus there were two shootings and a rape I heard about happening there while I lived there.

Not what I expected for our son. Even in the beginning the room we paid for was only just «ok». Disgusting old motel style bathroom. But the rest makes it unlivable. Very questionable security. His car has been broken into on multiple occasions. There is a broken down bus in the parking lot that people do heavy drugs in. They withhold food from students whose parents haven’t paid monthly «rent». We all pay for meal plans for a semester at a time but his neighbors rent was less than a day late and they suspended his food for an entire week. Food his parents had already paid for. There is no leadership for his floor. The RA quit a month in and no one replaced him. I would not recommend this for anyone. It would be cheaper and more enjoyable to pay for an apartment off campus. We will do that for next year. Please don’t subject your children to this place.

Last year was my son’s first year at Metro so we chose the Regency for convenience. Even with how convenient the shuttle and the proximity is for attending Metro the trade off is not worth it. From the very first the experience was a bad one with the payment I had mailed in for the first semester’s housing being misplaced but eventually found but not before the embarrassment at check in.
The place is not kept clean, the food is subpar and the food plan is overpriced. They spit shine and polish for the open houses and when it is sign up time then it’s downhill.
The deposit is non refundable as I know 3 different families with high standards for cleanliness and none had their deposits returned. So add the refundable cleaning deposits into the cost, also look at how often the cafeteria is closed and average the cost. This place is not a bargain and it is not worth the money they ask.
They won’t tell you this but your 18 year old will be housed with older adults who attend local trade schools. There are shady people roaming those hallways who live
in the Regency and share space with your fresh out of high school children. If I could give 0 stars I would the Regency should not be in the student housing business.

I lived at the regency last year and now currently live in the villas. The regency is always a fun place to be and making friends is always easy being around a ton of other people all the time! Its awesome being downtown! The people who work here are awesome as well! I would definitively recommend the regency to anyone!

In 2007 i attended Metro and decided to stay in the student housing, i didn’t wanna have more than 1 room mate so i chose the regency over The Inn or the one just south of Auraria. I was among the first people to stay at the regency and i was the first person to stay in my room since the fire. I took the tour of all the dorms for metro and this one easily had the most perks, theater, meal plan, massive gym, pool and generally nice interior design.
I had one of the 2^nd biggest rooms in the north annex. The one with the shared living area and the 2 bed rooms. This room layout was actually pretty cool and i didn’t mind it that much. But what will make you LOSE your mind is if your not on the side facing I-​25. They dumped me in the room with a window that was about 2’x3’ and that was the only way to see real light in the entire apt. This started to really effect my sanity never seeing the light of day in my room. The other thing was being on the ground level my window faced the tire of a semi that rarely moved, so there wasn’t anything to look at all.
Truth be told though i can’t complain about my window too much, the girls in the room at the end of the hall only had a sliver for a window, it was about 4 inches tall and 3 feet wide. There room’s lack of natural light reminded me of prison. Those girls ended up going crazy one night and fighting with 2 other girls that lived on the other side of our hall. Beleave it or not fights here seemed to be a somewhat common occurrence.
Back to my room, One of the things that really made me angry about my room is it didn’t have heat. There was a thermostat but no matter how hot you set it the heat would never kick in. The AC worked fine but who cares about AC, your in Denver, CO there’s only 4 months of nice weather and only 1 of them is during the primary school year. I got though the year with a space heater and lucky electricity is part of the rent so i didn’t have to pay extra to stay warm.
Everything i mentioned so far is perfectly easy to deal with, the real problem with this place is the staff. If your familiar with how a «for profit prison’ you can apply that to here. They are out to screw you for more money any and every way they can. I was in a room (that wasn’t mine) with some of the other residents that where smoking pot in there room and the RA’s busted in and charged each and every person in that room $ 200 for smoking in the building.
A girl i know also was charged with breaking an exit sign that she didn’t touch and they didn’t have video footage of her touching. They threw a massive charge at her too. Talk to anyone that’s stayed here and they’ve managed to squeeze money out of every single resident, that wasn’t there rent.
Wile i did meet some interesting people in this dorm, most of them where just drunk kids just out of high school. I never founded any long lasting relationships with anyone in the dorm. To this day i barely talk to my old roommate and we got along fine. So don’t expect to really meet that many people when you go here.
The food here is hit or miss, except the breakfast. The regency might have the best breakfast in any dorm anywhere. The rest of the food was so-​so. Sometimes they’d have a good special for the day but usually that wasn’t the case. Having the pasta and sandwich stations are nice but after 2 months you’ll have a hard time eating anything but the salad. And the fact that your paying around 8 bucks a meal you should be getting the dank dinner. The last month i was there i didn’t even bother getting food most of the time.
The worst thing about the food here though is the fact that you HAVE to get a meal plan, and this meal plan ain’t cheap. I think i went for the cheapest package and it was still a little under a grand every 3 months. You can blow up to 1500 on the meal plan though.
The year i went there they also HAD to put up the big gate at the entrance because a car got stolen every month. Luckily mine didn’t because it had an alarm but some pretty nice cars got taken, Including the manager’s truck. Remember The Regency isn’t in Lodo, its in Globeville, and Globeville sucks, the crime and gangs are waaay higher than downtown.
With a seemingly nice exterior, once your in the contract your screwed, do your self a favor and avoid this place. If your going to metro by choice. You should get the whole downtown big city feel, not this weird twilight zone i used to call home. Get a studio or an apt with your friend in capitol hill and enjoy walking to school when its nice and not having a gnarly staff out to get you ²⁴⁄₇. Just remember, This ISN’T AN APARTMENT, it’s basically a mediocre hotel that you can’t leave that’s purging you for money.
