History

Established in 2012.

We believe that gathering around the table and sharing good food and drink is what connects us as family, friends and a community.

The name ‘The Kitchen’ was chosen by its three co-founders, Kimbal Musk, Hugo Matheson and Jen Lewin. It was their desire to create a restaurant that would act much like the kitchen in one’s home — a center of conversation and connection — the place everyone likes to hang out.

In the Spring of 2012, The Kitchen opened as Denver’s Community Bistro — a restaurant built by a community of craftsman, serving food & drink from a community of like-minded farmers, ranchers and purveyors for the sustainable enjoyment of the whole community — including staff. Being a Community Bistro also includes our commitment to environmentally-friendly practices, including composting, and wind power.

Community Through Food…

is a multi-faceted jewel. Reflective lights of farmers and chefs, guests and servers, food and wine, integrity and passion all play off of one another creating something beautiful that takes you aback at first. When you move closer you begin to see that, at its heart, Community Through Food is a call in a time of speediness that brings us back to something inherently human-nourishing relationships.
