The Denver Tea Room

My book club tried the Denver Tea Room for the first time today and we decided to hold every meeting there from here on out. It was amazing!

Great atmosphere and service, but $ 5.50 for an Americano is pretty pricy.

I had never been here until my friend and I hosted a baby shower here. This place has the perfect amount of charm, elegance, and professionalism. They provided a room for the 2 hour party, along with a fixed menu, and 2 different types of tea. The little room fit the 10 of us perfectly. The 3 tables were arranged in a U shape that allowed everyone to see everyone and no one had to talk over another person. It made it very personable. The hostess introduced herself in the beginning and once everyone had arrived and found a seat, she started by bringing in and pouring the tea. Then the platters of food arrived and dessert followed. The food was delicious, the presentation was wonderful, and the whole ambiance made for a perfect shower for my friend. I will return again to have tea and their amazing scones with cream. This is a perfect place for much needed girl’s time.

This review is solely based on the coffee salon, as I’ve never been in the tea room before. Today was my first time there and I was so pleased. I ordered the strawberry spinach salad and it was just so delicious. The perfect amount of food and the toasted almonds were a really nice touch. I also ordered the herbal mint tea, which was also great.
There were only two other people there while I was inside, and it was very peaceful and relaxing. The music was fairly quiet but an old school jazz… it was just the perfect lunchbreak. Will definitely return!

First off, let me say that Margo, the owner, was a delight to work with. I wanted to host a bachelorette tea party to start off the night. She was quick with her responses as we emailed back and forth. She had a detailed brochure of pricing scales for any service which made it straightforward and easy to decide which ones would be most suitable for us. Margo was more than willing to do an after-​hours private event at no additional charge. It was beyond generous since it does take a lot of effort to set up a party and clean up.
Parking was a cinch with designated retail parking in the back. Score! You know how crazy south Broadway can get… haha. Margo was present when my girls and I showed up at 6:30pm. She had her assistant, Reegan, take care of us. The dining room was all set up and ready to go on time. We picked a rooibos and black currant tea. I didn’t get a chance to try to rooibos but the black tea was fragrant but not overwhelming. Perfect.
Reegan let us pick the music playing in the background and set the room thermostat upon request. We had the champagne service and she made sure to check with us which bottle we would like to start off with (I had different brands/​types). She assembled our mini cupcakes we had brought onto the three-​tier display which was beautiful.
The food was well-​presented and the taste was light yet flavorful, which is exactly what you want for an Afternoon Tea session. Scones were HUGE! Complete with three different accompaniments: Lemon curd, chantilly cream, and some fruit jam. To be honest, the rest of the food, such as the crustless herb cucumber sandwiches and crostini with egg salad, looked a bit petite but to my surprise, they were quite filling and we actually didn’t even finish the food.
The only piece of criticism that I can provide is that perhaps the server can check on the guests and refill water/​tea/​champagne more frequently? I know it’s always a tough call because you want the guests to not be pestered and enjoy their time together but there was a point or two in which we felt the need to serve ourselves. Not a big deal, but it was a bit awkward when deciding to serve ourselves or not…
All in all, we were impressed by the private room and it’s décor, the ambiance was spot on. We had a terrific time and I can’t wait to use the Denver Tea Room for another event!!! A HUGE thank you to Margo, Reegan, and the rest of the staff!

I had my Bridal Shower here and LOVED it! They did a great job of personalizing it and making it feel special! The simple and elegant setting is a perfect spot to throw a shower.
Since having such a great party, I’ve returned several times for tea with friends and family. Their selection of tea is huge, I’ve never had a cup of tea I didn’t love here. The scones are served warm with delish cream and jam. My personal favorite is the cucumber sandwich :)
Every time I’ve been to tea here I’ve always left full and happy! I can’t wait to plan my next girl’s outing here!

Pass on the coffee! I’m not a huge tea drinker and was in the area and saw this place with coffee in the name so I got excited. I ordered a latte, which I planned on having there, but they didn’t ask me so I got it to go. That is one of my major pet peeves with coffee houses, even though we are a go –go-​go society, sometimes it’s nice just to sit down and enjoy a drink. Plus it was pretty flavorless, even for a latte. They have a few tables in the front of the house then it appeared that they have some back rooms where people go and have tea. Their tea and food menu looks interesting so I’m sure that’s the best way to go with this place but I wouldn’t waste my time with getting coffee here.

I don’t like posting negative reviews, but after yet another bad experience here, I feel compelled to do so (honestly, I am hoping that the management reads this and makes some improvements, because I want to like them). We live nearby, so we were excited to have a place to get coffee/​tea/​breakfast/​lunch in a pinch. Unfortunately, our experiences have been inconsistent, and more negative than positive. I’ve never been in the tea room itself, so my experience is solely with the coffee salon. It’s hit or miss with service; some days they’re friendly, some days they act like you are burdening them with your business. The one thing that is consistent is that the service is slow. It once took twenty minutes to get one turkey sandwich – I mean, turkey, cheese, and mayo on bread – and there were no other customers. They have kept a menu board (and online menu) for months with items that they no longer carry, and they rudely make you feel stupid for trying to order something off of this menu, as if you should just know that it is not current. If you can’t afford to replace the menu board, at least black out the items that you no longer carry! Their sandwiches, coffee, and tea are sometimes good, but are very inconsistent as well. Maybe their tea service is better, but considering that I rarely see people partaking of it, they may want to focus a little bit more on improving their real potential moneymaker – lunchtime service. We only occasionally continue to go here out of convenience, but if they made some improvements, we would probably visit almost every day. I’m giving them two stars instead of one because the food is sometimes good, and I think they have potential.

The wife and I always take my MIL and other family members to Mother’s Day tea and we always pick a different one every year.
I wasn’t terribly impressed with the Denver Tea Room. My first big complaint is that you don’t actually get to choose which tea you want from their huge menu. They had 3 Mother’s Day teas and that was it. When I asked for a regular menu I was told they didn’t have any menus that day. Seriously.
The food was your typical frou-​frou afternoon tea stuff. It was all good and yummy, but for the price $ 28/​per, I thought they went a little light on quantity.
Our waitress was very, very slow. There were several times she disappeared for quite a long time and we had no food and no tea at the table. That was very disappointing.
Another huge disappointment was that the deserts were literally up on a table — buffet style. We were expected to schlep ourselves up to it and pick out our own stuff, which for at least half the people at our table wasn’t a possibility.
The tea I had was good, the food was good. Just a slightly disappointing experience.

It is our Mother’s Day tradition to do an afternoon tea service. We have been everywhere from the Brown Palace to Boulder, so this year we wanted something different and tried The Denver Tea Room. It is centrally located off I-​25/​Broadway. They have a coffee/​tea salon out front (for quick service) and a beautiful tea service room at the back with chandeliers, pale green paint and lovely linen.
I had made reservations a couple months in advance and was required to put down a non-​refundable deposit of 1 person’s tea (+ tip), so about $ 35. I can’t say I really like this, but my mother really wanted to dine here so I went with it. I suppose it isn’t a big deal, we planned on going and they applied the deposit to the final check. They do ask for any dietary restrictions and do their best to be sure they are met.
We had a fairly big party and were seated right away in the back, but near a window. Our waitress gave us our special Mother’s Day menus, which were actually emailed to us before we came (since I had made reservations). My first small disappointment was that we couldn’t pick any tea we wanted, we had to go with the 3 selections for the day. I honestly, have never been to an afternoon tea where I couldn’t pick anything I wanted and was a bit disappointed in the selection, plus some in my party were hoping for specific teas and were a little put off that they couldn’t pick what they wanted.
The menu was a very traditional tea menu with everything from cucumber sandwiches to scones. Honestly, the food was wonderful. The scones were warm, the sandwiches were beautiful in presentation and taste and it all was perfectly proportioned. However, as much as I hate to say it, the service we had lacked. We had a very nice, friendly server who was MIA most of the meal. There were long portions of the tea where the table was out of tea and food (they stagger the food coming out). She apologized several times, but honestly they were only half full and she wasn’t that busy! My other really big gripe is they didn’t bring a tiered presentation of desserts, they just put out a dessert table and served it buffet style! Ugh! It is a very tight dining room and we had people with mobility issues, so to have to schlep across the room to fill our plates with sweets like we were at Country Buffet really, really, really annoyed me. This alone would stop me from coming again. Again, like the lack of tea selection I have never had tea service like this and I didn’t care for it.
I did like aspects of the service, but the lack of selection in teas and the buffet style desserts turned me off. I think the important guests of our group liked it, so I suppose it was a success. However, it was not my favorite tea service. I would go back for a quick coffee and scone in their salon, but not a full service.

After going to the Brown Palace for tea year after year, I was ready to try something new. Someone told me about the Denver Tea Room and I am so happy I listened and gave it a shot. We went today for Mother’s Day and had a lovely experience. The staff was friendly, the environment was nice and the food was amazing. The tea was good, too. I also think the price is a little more reasonable that the Brown Palace… a great experience. I’ll be back.

First, let me say that I am a fan of the Denver Tea Room. I visited them on Colfax and then I went to an event they hosted at the Botanic Gardens. Recently, I had the opportunity to go for my birthday with two friends. The food was excellent and the location is just beautiful, it wasn’t my first time there. My one criticism is the waitress kept trying to clear our table while we were eating. My friend had a scone on her plate, the whole scone, and the waitress said I see you are done and starting taking the plate away. I said she is still eating. And she said well there are more good things to come. She did it again. I found that very inconsiderate. Also, I asked for a refill on my tea and she didn’t bring me more tea, instead she gave me a pot of hot water. That was not a good experience for me. Anyway, as I said, I like this place and the wonderful woman who owns it, but today, the service did not live up to my previous visits and that was disappointing given that it was my birthday.

My mother-​in-​law, aunt, and two friends joined me for afternoon tea on Valentine’s Day. We were seated in a small private room with only one other table. The décor was pretty and simple, which I liked. The environment allowed us to have fun conversation and an enjoyable meal.
We were given a choice of a dozen special teas they had for the day. They all smelled amazing, and we were all very happy with our choices. They came in their own tea pots, perfectly brewed.
I have been to many afternoon tea services and other tea parlors in Colorado and California, and this has been one of my top 3 experiences. 1^st, I loved that they had a soup course, as I’ve only had that at 2 other tea places. The next course came with traditional cucumber tea sandwich, a delicious crustless quiche, a turkey on crostini bite, and warm scones. This was very filling, but it was followed by perfectly sweet desserts. Many high teas have extremely rich desserts, but I found these to be perfect and not overly decadent.
In response to other reviews regarding the price… The price is about average for a great high tea experience. I’ve always spent this much on high tea from shops in California on the beach to the Brown Palace to House of Commons to really bad high tea in Aurora. If you don’t want to spend $ 25 on a wonderful experience, you shouldn’t go to high tea. That is the standard price, and it should be expected.
Overall, the experience was amazing and the service was top notch. I highly recommend this tea place to anyone who loves afternoon tea.

Lovely place with a very unique atmosphere. The coffee is excellent (haven’t tried the tea), and being able to get high tea somewhere other than the Brown Palace where it is super expensive and hard to get a reservation is exciting! Also, this place is far less formal and much better for the everyday/​week meeting of the ladies who brunch or bringing along your children. I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Holiday tea selections were very nice. The food was marginal and heavy on the sweets. At $ 30 for tea and snacks, it was way over priced which is my biggest complaint. Service was wonderful. It is a new build so the ambiance was a bit sterile. They have the tea room separate from the front of the store which is definitely a plus in trying to create some ambiance. I would not go back for a tea service, but for just a cup of tea perhaps.

I love The Denver Tea Room! I’ve been here for both a fun holiday party with friends and networking events. Super friendly management and staff, and, of course, the tea and tastes are excellent.

Afternoon tea is one of my passions and I just had my first experience at the Denver Tea Room. It will not be my last. In fact, this will be a necessity on all future visits to Denver. The sandwiches were good, and I was offered a second helping of them. The Brown Palace also does this and I find it a lovely value-​added feature. I often leave teas feeling like I need to have a meal because they are so heavy on the sweets. Those extra sandwiches really make a difference.
They also offer lemon curd, which I find a delicious item missing from most tea room menus today. I make it at home, and realize it is work, but it is also lovely. Theirs is the perfect consistency and flavor.
Their new location is arranged perfectly so those having afternoon tea are in a lovely room, away from the noise of people coming in for a quick cup of tea and/​or parties with more rambunctious members.
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was that the day I was there the service was very slow. However, that may have been my perception because I was alone and not having a nice conversation with a friend at the time. I might have well thought it the perfect pace if I had been visiting.
Everything was delicious and the price was comparable for the food/​experience. The owner interned at the Brown Palace and the attention to detail shows.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have tea at some of the famous places for it around the world, and I will be visiting this tea room again!

The Denver Tea Room is run by two sisters. The service was very good. The sisters and employees did a wonderful job at making you feel welcome and right at home. They were friendly and checked back often to make sure that everything was to our liking. We received a very genuine «thank you» for coming.
There was a wide assortment of teas. While the teas smelled good, they did not taste taste as flavorful and seemed more ordinary, like something you could pick up at a store. We had four different types of sandwiches, which were light. The egg salad sandwich had a little too much mayo, but the brie sandwich was good. I’m not a fan of the chicken curry, either. We were short a cucumber sandwich, so I didn’t try one, but everyone else seemed to like it. The scones were almost like a chewy biscuit, which I didn’t like. The clotted crème, lemon curd, and berry jam nicely complemented it. For dessert, we received crème puffs, chocolate coconut shortbread, and pizelles. The pizelles were the best. The cream puffs were a little too heavy, and the coconut shortbread didn’t have much coconut flavor. For the price paid, I felt it was a little overpriced.
All in all, the great service was the best part.
