Heard this was the best Mexican food in Denver. Decided to stop by and find out for myself since I love Mexican food. Lady at the register took my order was very sweet and nice. Food was lees than mediocre. I ordered the smothered burrito and chile rellenos. Only thing hot on the plate was the sauces. Steak in burrito was cold and did not even taste like carne asada as well as being just a slither of meat instead of what I’ve seen carne asada be at most other restaurants. The chile rellenos were cold on the inside with hot green chile on the out. I would not recommend this place at all. Most everything tastes very old like it was a week old and cold. Very dissatisfied except for the hospitality she was very sweet.

I cant speak to its authenticity but I can say I have been to Mexico on many occasions usually stopping into the little shops not in the tourist traps and it is spot on. So far I have liked everything I have tried but the chicken quesadilla and the El Pastor tacos are by far my favorites. This is a usual dinner stop for us when we are looking for some good street style food.

Interesting menu, if a tad expensive. Order at the counter, huge seating area. Lady at the counter was not super fluent(off peak hours on a snowy weeknight) so my order got a bit botched, but another helpful staffer helped smooth it out. Smothered burrito to go, the filling was surrounded by a thin layer of rice spread on the tortilla, which was pretty cool. I went for the al pastor which was pretty spicy, but otherwise not super flavorful. Probably a better option for big order sitdown and share family style than quick to-go ordering — will be back!

Went here for tacos de pastor, as they advertise it to be their specialty, and cooked on a spit. I did not see a spit and my tacos looked boiled and tasted boiled. There was no salsa bar, I was given only one red salsa and one wedge of lime. My horchata tasted like milk from a can, reminded me of Ensure(a canned nutritional shake). The service was good, place was clean and great music played. I didn’t have to wait long.

I drove by Tacos Junior, both to and from work, for years. I kept taking note of it, but just never made it in. Until this summer. And holy crap. It’s like I live there now. And, to their credit, the ever-obliging staff NEVER look sideways at me like«Oh great, here comes the Gringa again.» I’ve sampled bunches of their Tacos, with the Brisket, Al Pastor, Pollo, Tinga, Carnitas, and Chiccharones being favorites. They have this thing, that this Gringa was previously unfamiliar with: A Sope. It’s a disk of Masa, pan, fried and topped with refried beans, meat of your choice, onions, tomatoes, salsa, queso and wait for it… CACTUS. It blew my mind. The place is clean… SPARKLING clean. The first thing you smell is the Fabuloso. Then you wander toward the counter, past the in-house made desserts, and you smell the amazing Al Pastor Port roasting on their open spit, waiting for the traditional garnish of pineapple to melt in your mouth. And don’t pass by those desserts… Because they have CHOCOFLAN. Yep. Chocolate Cake topped with a layer of Custardy Flan. I’m hooked. I’ve been told to try the Flautas. And the Empanadas look amazing. So do their seafood creations. Maybe we’ll run into each other!

Tacos Junior is the real deal. I was apprehensive about it being located in a sketch part of Lake«hood» on Sheridan. There’s even what looks like an authentic bullet hole in the window(see photo) probably either from a drive-by(sorry but they do not have drive-thru) or a random gang shooting so watch yourself! The inside is shockingly CLEAN, the employees are friendly to us «gringos» and the food is nothing short of OUTSTANDING! Everything is made fresh with real soft corn tortillas and the tacos taste like authentic street tacos but better than any you’ve had off of a truck. I particularly like the chicken and steak tacos. I’ll have to try the empanadas at some point. Seriously, no matter what you order here you won’t be disappointed with. Even their deserts are made fresh. They are also open late at night so you don’t have to make a run for the border(the OTHER border, I mean). We keep coming back because it’s seriously that good! Tacos Junior es muy bueno!

Ordered 5 shrimp tacos($ 2.75) and carne asada fries. Girl at the counter said $ 36.50. Seemed high, so I questioned it, which I don’t normally do. She acted strangely, then changed the price, to $ 26.50, while they don’t post there prices anywhere. I asked for a receipt. Carne asade fries came out to $ 10.99. Really? Most expensive carne fries on earth. Anyway, good food but shady business practices. Huge building with few people in it. Sound like that may be why their prices are so high.

Food was barely better than Taco Bell and NONAPKINS to be found, so bring a couple paper towels from home if you go. Service was just ok. They were trying, but getting it handed to them and the place wasn’t even busy.

We’ve lived in Denver for 3 years and hadn’t found a Mexican place to rival those in our old neighborhood in Chicago… until today. Delicious quesadillas, authentic«Mexican» atmosphere, and friendly too. Thanks Tacos Junior!

I love the neon yellow and green décor — totally tacky in the most awesome way. And, their booths are huge — allowing for your whole posse to come. My friend and I shared four tacos: two pastor and two carnitas. The pastor was awesome — just like everyone says. I think they were extra tasty with the green salsa. The carnitas was a bit fatty for my taste but had excellent flavor. The fruit waters are huge and so was our slice of tres leches cake. Both were very good! I’ll definitely be back!

Taco Arribe! Wow, the El Pastor filled warm flour tortilla with sauteed onions, pineapple and loads of cilantro and onion was incredible(aka Taco Arribe)! It only tasted better with a splash of the insanely delicious and fiery homemade hot sauce. It felt like a taste of the tropics and a Mexican vacation all in one bite. I wouldn’t veer from this tasty concoction… tacos arribe for everyone!

I love authentic steak tacos and this place has amazing Mexican food and fruit drinks. The Mango juice $ 4.00 which is freshly made there is so good! I ordered 4 Taco plate for $ 7.00 and My friend ordered the Tostada plate. We ended up switching up a taco for a tostada. So, I ended up with 2 Steak tacos, 1 Pork Tostada and 1 Barbacoa Taco. My favorite is a tie between the Steak and Pork. Everything is very fresh and the staff is super friendly.

Oh Tacos Junior, I was so hopeful… The 4 taco plate was $ 7.00, we each got a water which was a $ 1 each and then a side of rice & beans. The Al Pastor tacos really are delicious, people weren’t kidding about that. The carnitas taco was really good too. However, the carne asada taco was really fatty and not very flavorful. We also got a side of rice and beans… kind of wish we hadn’t. The rice was pretty good flavor-wise, although kind of crispy and clearly a bit overcooked, but hey, maybe it was a bad day. However, those beans were downright awful. They looked okay, but as soon as my taste buds touched them I felt sick. They had this strong burnt icky flavor. So I didn’t touch them again, just stuck with the tacos from then on. Also, I wish they had the prices posted somewhere other than a tiny menu by the register. Other pluses I saw: the place was large and clean, they also served different dessert and fruit stuff. So I wouldn’t mind trying some of that in the future.

Tacos Junior came as a recommendation from a Mexican friend of my sister’s. No complaints whatsoever about this place. It’s a casual dining experience where you walk up to the counter to order and then get called back up to the counter when your order is ready. We were four adults with two babies and ordered the chicken empanadas, enchiladas, beef burito, and 4 different tacos. I noticed the fresh fruit bar and got a strawberry smoothie. It was very refreshing with a true strawberry flavor and wasn’t too sweet. The others got papaya and pineapple smoothies. We shared everything, and it was extremely fresh and delicious. We ate around 1PM and felt satisfied for the rest of the day. Many of us still felt full from lunch at dinner time 7PM The salsas are pretty spicy here. We had some leftover salsa and brought them home to go with tortilla chips that we got at King Soopers!

Past indiscretions corrected. The dining area was cleaner, the tagging in the bathrooms(probably multiple times) had been taken care of, and the fruiteria had more stuff happening. Thanks, I feel better now. I’ll still be eating here when I’m in this part of town. I’ve noticed that more and more, consistency might have to become an additional consideration to my rating system.

FINALSTOP aka The 4th Stop of Taco Rapture 2011. Sunday September 18th2011. YES, this is indeed a MARATHON for TACO-GOODNESS. So, the rest of us, as the SURVIVORS for Taco Rapture 2011 came here. Time: 1410hrs Plenty of parking and seating area inside. This establishment seems empty. Is this a good sign or a bad sign? Perhaps it just the timing factor when I was there with the group. You order at the counter on the left wing of this establishment. They will call out your order. You can get your order at the right wing of this establishment. Since I am slightly stuffed from all the Tacos I had, I still opt for 2 Tacos, one, Taco Lengua($ 1.65) and another Taco Tripas($ 1.75). The service was prompt, efficent and fast since I got my Taco order less in 10 minutes after ordering. Yes the Tacos came out piping hot. I like the flavor but I dont like the sauce that they offer with it. Big Bummer. But I dont think I can give a fair judgement aka review coz I am already stuffed so I really really need to go back to this Taco Junior to give another chance and I hope my review might differ. Furthermore, they have some other dishes that I would like to try with Hubs. Not forgetting, the display of pastries, cakes galore that I SO wish I have that«extra» space in my stomach to devour them…
