Sue Waters, MA, LPC

Sue was hired by the court to be our «Child/​Family Investigator» after I filed to divorce my then wife. Despite much documented evidence that my then wife was a problem alcoholic who’d been through detox and then rehab (twice) and had been diagnosed with a mood disorder and had many documented alcohol related misbehaviors; Ms. Waters found her to be a fine mother deserving of ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ parenting.
Last November my ex-​wife was arrested for DUI and charged with three counts of child abuse (my kids were in the car). The arresting officer testified that my children had narrowly escaped death as my ex made a U-​turn in front of oncoming vehicles.
Naturally, I cannot recommend Ms. Waters. I can only hope that she finds her way out of her current occupation and into retirement sooner rather than later.

If I could give Sue Waters a zero I would, but this system would not allow it. Sue Waters was our Parenting Coordinator for 2 years. Not one attempt was made to teach us a single skill during that entire time. This was a huge disappointment to me because Sue, in the initial interview with her, stated to me that she would be teaching my former spouse and myself some skills so that we could communicate directly with each other and do a better job of co-​parenting. It never happened. In reality, we were to cc Sue on emails that my former spouse and I sent to each other. Sue billed us for email monitoring yet we have no way of knowing whether she did that or not. There was no accountability. Sue certainly never interjected when communications became abusive and counter productive or offered suggestions as to how to communicate more effectively or gave us ideas about problem solving or conflict resolution so that we could co-​parent our child. When I specifically emailed Sue asking for help dealing with parenting issues that had come up with my former spouse, I received no response, even after repeated attempts, until I called her. I had several instances where this was the case. Then I was billed solely rather than splitting the charges, even though these were issues that involved both parents and our daughter that Sue neglected to assist us with. I became so frustrated at Sue’s lack of responding that I eventually gave up.
We were court ordered to have our daughter in individual and family therapy and asked for Sue’s help to find a therapist. She gave us a name of someone who did not exist, another name of someone who practiced an hour’s drive away from where we lived, and one additional name. How can you recommend someone that does not exist?! I thought we had a procedure in place to select the therapist but when my former spouse disregarded that process, Sue did not back up her own procedure and it became a free for all and nothing was accomplished. I’m sorry to say that two years later under the «help» of Sue Waters, this issue along with all the others remains unresolved. Near the end of our time with Sue, on a rare occasion when Sue did get involved, she decided she was a Decision Maker and not a Parenting Coordinator, which was incorrect. She offered a legal opinion which only served to create more conflict between my former spouse and myself and our attorneys. To this day, the issues that Sue was supposed to help us with remain unaddressed. Her services were another layer of beauracracy that sucks money, time, and energy during one of the most stressful and financially challenging times of one’s life, and most importantly, she failed us in helping to serve the best interests of our child.

I was a patient of Sue Waters for more than a year, after my ex-​wife and I were both ordered to work with her on parenting issues. She is an excellent parenting coach, and has a wonderful way with children. Her offices are comfortable and inviting. Sue’s personality is vibrant and surprisingly enthusiastic for someone who has been in practice for nearly 20 years. Sue has been very involved in helping parents, especially those with high conflict, to work together. She was one of the originators of the Parenting After Divorce training. If you need parenting coaching, child therapy or a Parenting Responsibilities Evaluation (PRE) performed, I can not recommend Sue heartily enough.
