Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey

staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable — even though we didn’t make the distillery tour, we were still given a demo of the whiskey with a lot of historical background and details into how the whiskey was made. The whiskey, in my super limited background, was some of the best I’ve ever had. Definitely worth a visit!

Not much of a whiskey drinker. Came with my wife to do a tour. Our guide, Evan, was great and shared a lot about the history and some of the future things the distillery is planning. If you have a few hours swing in, you won’t be disappointed!

Stopped by on my trip to Colorado and had a fun experience touring this place! Very friendly staff and in-​depth explanation of how their whiskey is made. Ends with a sample of their whiskey and instructions on how to open up the flavors so the tasting experience is memorable! Definitely recommend for visitors to Colorado!

What a great FREE tour! My brother recommended this place but when he came it was a much smaller operation. They have definitely expanded and it’s cool to see them doing so well. I’ve done distillery tours before, but this was still very fun and insightful. We learned about the history and the process, and then we ended with a little tasting. Our guide poured everybody some whiskey in their specialty glass and then walked us through how to do a proper tasting. I never drink straight whiskey so it was hard to do this tasting. She had us look at it, swirl it, smell it, taste it, chew it, then she added a small amount of water and had us repeat the process. However, I enjoyed it enough to buy a bottle to take home. They also sell the cute little whiskey tasting shot glasses for only $ 4 which I thought was a steal. The whiskey is pricey though. I don’t remember exactly how much but it was around $ 60! Needless to say, I think this is a great tour and I highly recommend it!

Great place to visit if your in Denver. The staff is super friendly. Love the whiskey a unique taste of Colorado. Love the history behind it. Make sure u take a bottle home with u an a couple of those cute tasting glasses!

Well this was an awesome experience. We looked up cool things to do while visiting Denver and Stranahan’s popped up. We arrived without making tour reservations and we were able to wait for the next tour. We ordered drinks and waiting in the lounge area for the 4pm tour. I had a delicious Stanhattan that came with my favorite luxardo cherry. The drink was perfectly made.
As for the tour, our guide was fantastic. Her sense of humor really helped out the entire experience. I enjoyed learning all the history on the distillery and seeing how Whiskey was made, from the fermentation process to the copper kettles to the barrels to the bottles. I also enjoyed the whiskey tatsing at the end of the tour.
All in all a great experience and you should make the time to do this tour if you are visiting Denver.

Free tours are a fabulous way to spend an hour and include a free tasting. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We had a great time learning about their distilling process and what makes Stranahan’s different. I also found it interesting that volunteers do all the bottling. I hear the list of volunteers is 20K long tho.

Let me start by saying, I don’t think my experience is necessarily a common one. I don’t want the folks down at Stranahan’s to rue this review, having people showing up for tours on Tuesdays (no tours on Tuesday).
My family flew into town for Thanksgiving and we’ve planned a few things to check out while they are here. Stranahan’s naturally came to mind, my dad being a big whiskey fan. So I’m sure you’ve put two and two together by now, we showed up without checking the website. We see the sign, no tours today. We were about to leave, unfulfilled, when Pete (the GM) grabbed us and offered us a quick tour. He took us through the whole buidling, giving us a rundown of the whole process. He patiently answered questions about the history of Stranahan’s, employees and even the different types of barrels they use. All the while you can tell he was needed elsewhere, Tuesday obviously being a busy day being as it is the only day they don’t have tours.
After all this, we got to test out the whiskey and it is truly phenomenal. Great experience down at Stranahan’s, really appreciate them going the extra mile!
I’ll definitely be showing up for a bottle of the limited release, Stranahan’s Snowflake.

Really enjoyed the tour here it was fun and educational. Came with friends. We got to try the whiskey at the end of the tour. We bought glasses that don’t fall over and a 94 proof bottle of whiskey, yeah that is what I am talking about. Make sure you stop here if you come to Denver.

Came here for the noon Sunday tour and had the best tour guide! Learned a bit about Stranahans and the coolness of their process from start to finish, super fun. Tasting at end fun, had to commemorate with bottle! Which, after heading to lounge for whiskey flight, I’m giving away to someone who can drink more whiskey than me! Ha! Definitely recommend to anyone with an hour or an hour and a half, über to here for 10/​from downtown! Try all the whiskey (my folly) especially the infused and the cool ones you can only get in the lounge realistically! My friend doesn’t like whiskey but enjoyed the tour!

Shout out to our tour guide Skye. We could not have asked for a more engaging experience. Give her a raise! And obviously Stranahan’s is great whiskey. This is a must-​visit for Denver area residents and visitors, alike

Awesome tour and experience for even those who aren’t whiskey aficionados!
The tours are free and and you sign up on the website to take them — they have many different times available & shows how many people are in that tour.
The guide (I can’t think of her name!) was awesome, perky, and knowledgable. She spoke about whiskey with a passion and it really showed. At the end of the tour you get a tasting and educational how to on how to drink whiskey. They have a nice little gift shop along with a lounge — we didn’t actually patron the lounge.
Even if aren’t a whiskey drinker it’s well worth going on the tour! It is rich in Colorado history and is an all around good time!

The distillery tour is fantastic! Skye, our tour guide, was super knowledgeable about the distilling process but explained it in terms we novices could understand. After walking us through Stranahan’s entire distilling process, we even got to taste some whiskey! The lounge here is great, too — tasty cocktails made from Stranahan’s delicious products!

Wow! I went on a tour here as a way to kill time when an out of state friend was visiting. I’m not a huge whiskey person but I was definitely blown away by how good the tour was.
Super easy parking in the lot out front or on the street. I would arrive about 5 min early just to check in because the tours do start on time.
Our tour guide was Kaylie and she was awesome! She had such a fun, bubbly personality. Definitely knew a lot about the history of Stranahan’s, whiskey, and you could tell she enjoyed her job, which is always refreshing.
The tours are about an hour, which is the perfect amount of time… long enough to entertain me but short enough so I don’t get bored. There is a tasting at the end. There’s actually a certain way to «taste» whiskey, which I didn’t know. It still burned as I drank it but made the experience more enjoyable.
Overall, a solid touristy thing to do in the area, definitely recommend checking it out, even if you aren’t a whiskey person!

Stranahan’s has been on my Denver to-​do list for a while now, ever since a friend brought me a bottle when visiting in Texas.
Walking in, you can either peruse their shop and sign in while you wait for your tour or you can veer to the left and hit up the bar and have a few drinks (which is what we did). The bar itself is pretty cool and they have a number of flavored versions of Stranahan’s for you to try, as well as several Stranahan’s-based cocktails available to be made by the bartender. Not a bad way to spend ten minutes whilst waiting for the rest of the tour to show up.
The tour itself was very insightful and is exactly what one would expect from a distillery or brewery tour: simply walking through the process of how they make their beverage. Stranahan’s is a bit different than most American whiskeys as it is made with 100% malted barley instead of corn mash as used in bourbons. The reliance on the barley, to me, puts its flavor closer to that of a scotch whisky, which is probably why I like it so much.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we all had a bit of fun walking through the distillery and learning about the process, especially using the charred oak barrels and the aging process in general. The tour ends at a small room that backs into the shop, where you sit down as a group and get to try some of this great whiskey, first without water and then with.
That pretty much wraps up the tour. They do note, however, that due to the amount of time it was taking to just writing something funny on their bottles during the bottling process, only bottles sold at the Stranahan’s distillery will have this signature feature while those at the store will just have something printed on. Most of us opted to buy a few bottles on the way out, just in case.
If you’re like me and love Stranahan’s, then this is a must do. However, if you’re just interested in the whiskey distillation process or perhaps need a change of pace from the brewery-​laden town that is Denver, Stranahan’s is a great way to spend an afternoon as well.

Ooh Stranahans. I’m so fortunate to have found you. I was worried we wouldn’t get on a tour but we made it!
Man tour guide was very knowledgeable, funny and soooo handsome (I’m talking about you curly haired, blue eyed guy). At the end of the tour, there is a whiskey tasting. I like how they make you taste the whiskey straight up and then with water. The water makes a huge difference.
The tap room is pretty awesome too. We opted for the whiskey flight with their honied whiskey, the snowflake and I can’t remember the third one unfortunately. But that snowflake, though. I see why that stuff is pre ordered and sold out.
I hope to see Stranahan’s in a Fort Worth store soon.

I really enjoyed the tour because they extensively went through the process of how to make Stranahans whiskey as well as what makes Stranahans special.
At the very end we sit down in a room and we all get a shot and they teach us how to taste as well as pick out individual notes in the whiskey. Great experience!
Best of all its free! You should definitely swing by and do this tour if you have the time. I highly recommend it!

Great tour! Lexie was an awesome tour guide. Very informative and fun. Definitely worth checking out if you have an hour or so and are looking for something to do in Denver. We came for a bachelor party and had a blast.
The lounge was open and had lots of drink flights and cocktails to enjoy.
After the tour and free tasting you have the opportunity to buy a bottle for $ 55. Not bad considering the quality of the whiskey.

Free whiskey factory tour and free tasting. That alone = 5 stars.
The 90 proof whiskey is stupid strong and feels toxic but was much more bearable when the water was added. I had a guy on my tour group who asked really dumb questions at every stop in the tour. He clearly didn’t pay attention when the tour guide was talking so would ask questions that were already answered. Other than that, the tour was great. I learned about how their whiskey was made and got some quality alcohol drinking time with my family. Their whiskey cups are cool because you can tip them and they’ll bounce back. You can book tours online.
What I thought was cool about this place was their bottling/​labeling process. All of their products are labeled by hand by volunteers. They say they have a waitlist for their volunteers that consists of more people than would fit in a stadium. Volunteers work for 4 hour shifts and get free pizza and a bottle of whiskey (which costs around $ 60). That is NOT a bad deal. Each bottle has a sideways label that is hand signed with a quirky note from each labeler.

Wow, for my first distillery tour, Stranahan’s definitely set the bar high! For my friends back in NY who have never heard of Stranahan’s, they don’t distribute outside of Colorado, so you’ll have to hop over here to get some… well worth it though!
Three of us opted for a guided tour, led by the very knowledgeable Brendan. He took us through several rooms while running through the entire process. They only use hearts when distilling, and after everything ages in the white oak barrels, they send those «marinated» barrels to a variety of breweries so they can add some great flavor to their beers.
All the American whiskey is bottled and hand labeled by volunteers, and while they can’t drink on the job, they get sent home with a nice… care package :)
We had a great time on the tour, and certainly can’t complain about the informative tasting that followed. One drink served up, and another served with a splash of Colorado spring water.
