At Rose Midwifery, our team of Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) specializes in providing healthcare for women from adolescence through adulthood, including pregnancy and childbirth. Each of our midwives is certified through the American College of Nurse-Midwives and have been trained in both nursing and midwifery.

Rose Midwifery has three locations around the Denver Metro area to make it more convenient for you to choose our providers. We also offer extended office hours and often have same-day or next-day appointments available.

Rose Midwifery is affiliated with Rose Medical Center, part of the HealthONE system of care.

History

Established in 1997.

Rose Midwifery was created by midwives in 1997 to provide safe, meaningful, holistic health care to all women of childbearing age. We have increased our staff to 12 certified midwives, and one Family Nurse Practitioner. We now offer three locations to provide access to Midwifery care in our community.

Manager

Midwifery is my passion. I was born and raised in beautiful KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, where I practiced as a midwife for five years, gaining the experience and skills to practice safe and holistic care. I led a hospital-based midwifery unit, successfully decreasing poor neonatal outcomes, before immigrating to the United States with my husband. After moving to the US, I worked as a labor and delivery nurse for five years and returned to school to get my master’s in midwifery in order to practice in this country. In those five years, I traveled across the United States, as well as added two gorgeous children to my family. We finally settled here in Colorado.

It was exciting to join Rose Midwifery and become part of the team. We have a wonderful practice with talented and dedicated midwives, a clinical staff and management geared toward caring for pregnant and postpartum women.

Over the years, I have learned much and still feel privileged to work with such a great team of midwives

Overall the experience was average. I saw a different midwife everytime I went. My biggest upset was when I was in labor, the phones people were extremely apologetic, after 2 hours and 3 calls into the emergency line, the midwife finally called back. I was already in the car ready to go to the hospital, since it took them so long. I am going to use a different office this time, an OBGYN office at Rose, I had some other upsets with the midwifery.

I absolutely loved the midwives during my pregnancy, it was my first so I had a lot of questions and concerns and I always felt they took the time to address them and put me at ease. They were amazing during my whole pregnancy, and outstanding during my delivery (which was long and difficult with many complications that led to a c section). With that being said, if you choose to receive prenatal care here I would HIGHLY recommend having a back-up doctor/facility to go to for postpartum care. I have had lingering pain above my incision for 2 months now, sometimes severe, and the wonderful staff that was so attentive during my pregnancy was all of a sudden completely disinterested in anything I was now going through. They seriously made me feel like a drug addict when I asked for something to control the pain (which I partly understand since there is so much prescription drug abuse these days) but seriously?! I am genuinely in pain and it was making it so hard to care for my newborn daughter. They all just said «oh you should be healed fine by now, shouldn’t need pain meds anymore» and that was that, I was sent on my way. Pray for an easy, routine delivery and recovery (if there is such a thing) or have another doctor or nurse in mind for any postpartum complications!

The midwives delivered our daughter in March of 2012. We saw three different midwives over the course of my wife’s pregnancy, and each one was very helpful and caring. Every midwife we saw was patient and you didn’t get that «out the door before all your questions are answered» treatment the previous OBGYNs (and many doctors) gave. My wife and I felt very cared for at this practice. The midwives were laid back and wanted to cater to whatever my wife wanted for the birth.
When the day finally arrived, my wife ended up having a very difficult time pushing. She progressed quickly, but the pushing lasted over five hours! If we had gone with an OBGYN, I know my wife would have been pressured in to a cesarean. Vicky stayed two and a half hours past her twenty four hour shift to make sure my daughter was delivered.
I regret we have relocated to Atlanta, and we cannot utilize these amazing women again! We would use them again, otherwise. We are expecting another in March of 2014, and the contrast between this practice and the one we are at now is stark. I would recommend Rose Midwifery to anyone delivering in the Denver area!

I’m 21 weeks pregnant and have been with rose midwifery since the beginning of my pregnancy. I like all the midwives Carol is awesome but all in all every midwife I’ve seen has been kind and informative. I’m not so excited when I first walk in the door because of their receptionist she’s definitely off putting at times but over all I’m glad we are going with Rose midwifery for birthing the way I want to birth.

I am 35 weeks pregnant and have been receiving my care through the Rose Midwives as well as Dr. James Wilk for complications. I was told early on that because of my complications I was more than likely to be induced, which didn’t bother me as long as the baby was healthy. Last week I saw a midwife that I had never seen before (common with this particular office) and she informed me that I would be induced on August 16^th-literally a month from my due date. When I returned this Tuesday and expressed my concerns, I found out that the midwife I had seen the week before had scribbled my due date out and put an entirely different one… In doing so, if I had not caught the goof up, they may very well have delivered my daughter two weeks premature. In my mind this is unacceptable, but seeing that I have two weeks left, I cannot switch my care… I will be using a different hospital and different prenatal care next time!

Once I got beyond the sometimes-offputting demeanor of their receptionist, I ended up loving my experience at Rose Midwifery. I started seeing them with only 2 months remaining in my pregnancy, which isn’t typical or ideal, but that’s what happened.
There are 13 midwives on staff (Katie is my favorite, she has a lively personality — although all the midwives I met were awesome) and you’ll usually see a different nurse and midwife each time you visit. So if you have a problem with that, best to switch to a different practice. Luckily this didn’t bother me, even though I had never met the midwife who ended up assisting in the birth of my son! Roll with it.
I found the care here much more thoughtful and caring than my «mainstream» OB/GYN in a different state before I moved back to Colorado. These ladies do their best to keep intervention at a minimum and give you every chance to have a natural childbirth if that’s what you want (but if you don’t, that’s ok, and supported, too.)
Anyway, I have nothing but great things to say about these ladies.
Tip: Inquire about their doula program if you’re interested and stop in to see the lovely Erin, their dietician.

I was 25 weeks pregnant when I decided to switch from their services, which is not usual. Everytime you go you, see a different midwife and they all have different advice. Also, I was lied to when going there. The straw that broke the camel’s back was, I had experienced severe sciatic pain over the weekend, I mean incapacitating. I called the midwives on Monday for assistance, spoke to a receptionist or nurse, who said as soon as one was free, they would call me. I never got a call. Wednesday, I was finding a new birthing center. Some of the midwives are nice, but they do not communicate well, and obviously, notes are not written down. I would suggest «shopping around» for a group that cares to call their clients back, and remember you. It always seemed as if they did not know who I was, not a good way to spend your pregnancy.

I have just switched from Rose to St. Joes. I wanted to go with a midwifery practice and found the one at Rose was the most frustrating experience I’ve ever had as far as customer service goes. They’ve billed me incorrectly for the past 5 months. Also, you have to travel all around the hospital to get different things done. At St. Joe’s they bring the ultrasound tech to you and everything is SO MUCH more convenient. I’ve never walked in to Rose and had someone sitting at the front desk where you’re supposed to be greeted. On the flip side, I’ve always had my phone calls answered and had a friendly face waiting for me at the office desk at St Joes. Also, the midwives at St. Joes have been so much more informative (which is the whole reason I chose a midwife in the first place) and actually explained to me what tests exactly they were running and how I would be getting my results. The birthing suites are way nicer (not that this matters, but they have hardwood floors and granite countertops) and they take the time to understand me and return my phone calls. Did I mention I called the Rose midwifery practice and left 7 messages (because they never answered the phone, even during office hours) and never ever received a return phone call. I was unable to get my first trimester ultrasound because of it. Basically, I think the experience of being pregnant is much more than just birthing. The way you feel as a patient (therefore, a customer) will effect your level of comfort and excitement for giving birth at your hospital and with the midwives/obs. I know I would never want to birth with Rose, no matter how highly they rank because they demonstrated through their outdated décor and absolute lack of service (and inability to merely bill me correctly so I could pay them) that they do not value you. If they can’t handle answering the phone, I’m most certainly not letting them bring my child into the world. My first appt at St. Joes was a great relief to walk in the door and be greeted by the office staff who were warmly talking to a patient who had recently had her baby and her older daughter, catching up because they cared. Phew! It’s been a long, frustrating four months, but I look forward to the next four months with them as my practice.

Love the midwives– all of them are caring and respectful of the patient’s wishes. I agree with Becky above, Carol is awesome! We moved over here from a traditional OB practice when we felt our plans for a natural birth wouldn’t be supported. The ONLY thing that could use a major improvement is the wait time. Today I had an appointment for 1pm and waited in the exam room until 1:50 before I was seen. It’s not usually that long, but there is always a late start in my experience.

My experiences with Rose Midwifery have been almost totally negative. I will say that some of the RNs and the Prenatal Plus staff are wonderful. However the vast majority of their office staff are rude, incompetent and just plain terrible.
I went to Rose in 2009 with my first pregnancy. I was told that despite a history of miscarriage in my family and being of advanced maternal age (close to 40), I would not be seen until 8 weeks. I miscarried at 10 weeks and was never seen even when I began bleeding. I understand that there is a strong possibility that the fetus was not viable, however I truly felt like they didn’t care about me or my loss.
I went to Rose with my 2^nd pregnancy in 2010. I had to nag the midwives to refer me for a cervical scan despite my miscarriage and the fact that I had several LEAPs done in my 20s which could have compromised my cervix. it took them 6 weeks to actually get their act together and refer me — I don’t think they would have done this unless I kept calling and requesting the scan that they had said I needed. The ONLY reason I stayed with Rose at that point was because I truly liked the prenatal plus staff. I eventually transferred to an ob/gyn and am so very glad I did.
I recently had to go in for some insurance assistance and labs. They have not been helpful or prompt in responding to questions. I wouldn’t go back to this clinic if someone paid me to do so. I have found Rose Midwifery to be lacking in most ways. As someone who has worked in the medical field, I would NOT recommend them to anyone, especially if you are high risk, need any kind of assistance with insurance paper work, or are unable to be your own advocate.

These ladies are great!
They’re caring, and they actually LOVE what they do. They’re not a bunch of stiff doctors who look down on you for asking silly questions. My personal favorite is Carol, she reminds me so much of my mother that it’s actually soothing to have her around. I hope she gets to deliver my baby! (That part is a bummer, you get whatever midwife is on delivery duty at the time you’re ready to deliver!) I haven’t met a midwife here that I didn’t like. They’re all bubbly, friendly, knowledgeable, and have been at it a while. The facility is very clean, the waiting room has a television in it (usually set to TLC or HGTV… estrogen heaven) for those hour-long glucose screenings. They validate parking for the Rose Medical garage, so you don’t have to pay for a meter. Even the nurses that take your vitals are friendly and helpful.
The best part? If you’re delivering at Rose Medical, you’re more than welcome to use their anesthesiologist and get an epidural — no judgment. A lot of people are under the misconception that if you have a midwife you have to go natural. Just not true!
Here’s the downside, and the reason for only four stars: their telephone situation. It’s so hard to get in touch with anyone it seems their lines are always occupied — but they have an answering service. It’s just frustrating to leave a message with someone who has no idea what’s going on and can’t give any information over the phone. Sometimes I was waiting for two hours for a call back just to make an appointment! Their on-call midwife situation is also weird, they’re there to answer urgent questions ²⁴⁄₇ so why do they have an answering service? I mean, they definitely call back very quickly, but it’s just weird that you’re calling an urgent care midwife line and sometimes they don’t answer? Hmm.
