Specialties
OneSeed Expeditions offers a new way to travel. We partner with local communities to ensure that tourism revenue goes directly to guides, porters, and local entrepreneurs.
Through the OneSeed Fund, we invest 10 cents of every dollar into microfinance initiatives that provide start-up capital to women entrepreneurs. When you travel with OneSeed, you explore the world and invest in people.
History
Established in 2010.
Conceived as a social enterprise with a sustainable revenue stream, OneSeed Expeditions grew directly out of the research and work experience of its founders. OneSeed’s founders bring a unique mix of mountain guiding, ethnographic fieldwork, and non-profit skills to the start-up team.
We try to keep it pretty simple: you take an amazing trip; a local entrepreneur launches or expands their small business.
We aim to change the way that travel impacts local communities. We’ve all seen the negative side of tourism, but what happens when you take the power of travel and harness it to fund creative entrepreneurs?
Answering that question is what OneSeed is all about.
Meet the Business Owner
Chris B.
Business Owner
Chris has spent most of the last decade split between the US and Nepal. As a student at Yale University and the School for International Training (SIT), Chris conducted research in Kathmandu and throughout the Khumbu region surrounding Mt. Everest (he’ll do anything to get into the mountains). As a Fellow with Kiva.org, Chris worked closely with local microfinance institutions to document the work of small-scale entrepreneurs. A graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and a former President of the Yale Mountaineering Club, Chris loves mountains, fly fishing, water buffalo momos and singing off-key in Nepali. Chris is really good at sleeping on planes and he never turns down daal bhat or empanadas.
