History
Established in 2008.
Justin Brunson and Steve Allee worked together at Luca D’Italia & after leaving they teamed up to begin Masterpiece Delicatessen. One of the main reasons for the detour from cooking in fine dining restaurants to making gourmet sandwiches was because very few of Steve and Justin’s friends had the money to eat at any of the restaurants they were working at… so ‘fine dining between bread began! Starting off in the back of the Lancer Lounge, Justin and Steve created sandwiches for the bar customers as well as delivering to those in the neighborhood. Their ‘fine dining between bread’ took off fast and they soon out grew the Lancer. Using their own two hands Steve and Justin started construction on the now Masterpiece Delicatessen that we all know today in the Denver Highlands. Masterpiece opened their doors on May 13th, 2008. Four years later the door is still open with a line forming down the sidewalk for the deliciousness of Steve and Justin’s sandwiches…

Born and raised in Iowa to a farming family Justin grew up gardening, hunting and fishing. These activities along with his farming roots created his passion for food and cooking. After finishing high school Justin moved to Scottsdale Arizona to attend LeCordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts where he was on the deans list as well as honor roll in all years attended. Justin obtained an internship at Michael’s at the Citadel in Scottsdale and became their Sous Chef within six months. Justin moved to Denver in 2003 and soon after opened Zengo as their Executive Sous Chef. Two years later Justin became the Sous Chef at Luca D’Italia, where he met future Masterpiece Deli co-owner, Steve Allee and also filled in at Mizuna when help was needed. Three and a half years later Justin helped open Fruition all while he was in the process of opening up his own business, Masterpiece Delicatessen…
