Thus, it may come as no surprise that Jennifer Akina founded Leaf & Crumb in the midst of earning a doctorate in Pharmacology, choosing to forgo the medical world and instead use those skills to enhance her lifelong love of baking.

Leaf and crumb closed it’s doors since Tuesday. It would of been nice if they could of called me and let me know since I had an appointment today instead of me showing up and then trying to call them. Phone just kept ringing. Just thought everyone should know if they have an appointment.

Jennifer is the most talented baker in town. I usually do not like sweets and I am addicted to her cupcakes. The frosting is light and not sticky and the flavors are amazing. She did a dozen pink strawberry cupcakes for my four year old niece“s birthday party at preschool and it was such a hit. My niece was so delighted with her little pink party treats.
I am ordering a dessert array for my wedding in May. Thank you Leaf and Crumb!

I bought a 6″ cake for my best friends birthday from Leaf and Crumb. Since I was ordering over the phone, I was a little skeptical about how it would turn out. I was all over the place as I ordered: «I want it simple, elegant, classy, not too busy, vintage and her favorite color is purple.» That is the crazy information I gave them. And when I picked it up… it was perfect :) And yes, it tasted just as amazing as it looked! It was champagne strawberry tea cake with a strawberry buttercream layer inside and plain buttercream as the frosting. Delicious and beautiful. I want to add that when you go to pick your cake up, make sure you take a few minutes to watch the amazing cake artists decorating. They have a clear wall for you to watch them work and they are BEYOND talented. My new bakery for cakes and cupcakes :)

I stopped in hoping to get some cupcakes without pre-​ordering them. They had earl grey raspberry, peach cardamum, and carrot cupcakes. All were yummy, but I wish I had gotten them when they were fresher. Next time I will pre-​order them.

These cupcakes are truly beautiful. The cake flavors are light and unique. Unfortunately, in my opinion, I find that their frosting is for the most part unflavored. It tastes like smooth, unsweetened shortening with a little bit of flavor essence. Some of the cakes are a bit dry but the lemon ricotta has a really nice lemon pound cake flavor. These cupcakes would make a very sweet gift for any occasion. I just don’t know if I’d seek them out as a treat for myself.

Leaf and Crumb created two amazing cakes for our wedding day! Jennifer and Jodi met with us to sample some of their amazing cakes and listened to our ideas for our cake. The end result was perfect! The wedding cake was beautifully decorated and tasted even more amazing. (So much so that I ate more cake the next morning for breakfast!!!) Leaf and Crumb also created a groom’s cake for us that was a hit! Then, to top it all off, they delivered the cakes to Breck for us on our wedding day! I cannot thank Jennifer, Jodi, and the entire Leaf and Crumb staff for being a part of our wedding day. I will recommend them to anyone looking for a delicious and amazing wedding cake… Or just for an everyday treat!

I tried the following cupcakes:
Royal Coconut Pouchong Tea · Vanilla Buttercream

Earl Grey Tea · Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese Icing

And they were all excellent. I REALLY liked the Earl Grey Tea with Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese Icing it was absolutely delicious! My family liked both the Earl Grey Tea and the Masala Pumpkin Chai. The staff was very friendly and the place is very clean.

We couldn’t have asked for better cupcakes coming from better people than Leaf and Crumb. I still have dreams about how good these cupcakes were.
Jennifer and the rest of the Leaf and Crumb gals did our wedding at the Clocktower back on July 27th and did an amazing job. Not only are these some of the most affordable cakes in town especially for the quality, but they are super easy and friendly to work with. This was the first cupcake shop we visited to pick out wedding cupcakes and it was also the last. We haven’t met nicer people in a long time. They even accommodated our gluten free guests with some fantastic macaroons.
Everything was easy from first meeting with them about prices, flavors, etc… all the way to setting up at the event. (I didn’t even see them come in and set everything up so beautifully. I swear they hired ninjas to get the job done that day.)
So whether you are looking for cakes or cupcakes for your event or just in the neighborhood and want to taste what a really good cupcake actually tastes like, check em out!
Side note, the shop is decorated with Lucero posters, big bonus! So, if you like your local cake shop to have great taste in music, you’re in luck.

The crew at Leaf + Crumb are some of the most talented bakers, chefs + food creators I’ve ever worked with. Recently, I collaborated with Jennifer of Leaf + Crumb for a wedding photo shoot and the cake she + her team crafted was simply stunning. The attention to detail was out of this world and the finished product was striking + awe-​inspiring. For this project, I gave Jennifer the broad scope of the photo shoot’s theme and asked her to invent whatever she felt would be a good fit for our shoot. Let me tell you — she knocked it out of the park! Feathers, glitter + gold — this cake had it all! Better yet, even with all of the dazzling elements the cake embodied, it did not appear too busy or too overwhelming to the naked eye. I’m so happy with her contribution for our shoot and can’t wait to work with her again. Thank you so much, Leaf + Crumb!

Just had to update my review after purchasing my first cake from Leaf and Crumb because it was just AMAZING! I ordered the cake for a friend’s birthday (I uploaded a photo — you can see it at as number #61 I think, it says «Happy Birthday Kristen»). This girl loves pink and they definitely nailed it! I ordered the 6″ cake ($ 40) in the Strawberry Rose Champagne with the Strawberry Swiss buttercream and
.god. — soooo delicious!!! The cake was moist and so flavorful!!! The icing was just right and it all came together beautifully!
I highly recommend them and cannot wait for the next birthday or celebration to come around so I can try something else!
(Just FYI, we easily cut the 6″ into 8 decent sized slices — granted, we ate this at the end of our meal so no one was starving but I don’t think anyone needed seconds).

Such a cute little place! Stopped by for a treat when I met my husband for lunch during the week.
We were greeted immediately and the selection was so unique! Earl grey cupcakes? Matcha green tea cupcakes? Masala Chai cupcakes? Don’t worry they have simple ones like vanilla bean butter and lemon ricotta too. Not only do they have their daily cupcake flavors but they have scones and cookies as well!
We ended up splitting a french macaroon and a caramel cupcake.
The cupcake itself was soft, moist but not too sweet. Frosting was so LIGHTTTTLY whipped! The macaroon was a bit on the hard side but I tend to judge these pretty harshly since I’ve eaten La Duree macaroons.
All in all the place is cute and now I’m craving a FULL cake from here! You should stop in a get a cupcake to see for yourself.

Leaf and Crumb is a charming, bright, and contemporary bakery that is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. The owner, Jennifer, is very welcoming and super nice.
There are only two or three choices of cupcake flavors per day as well as a couple of pasty offerings. Atop these cupcakes are some of the most beautiful icing designs I’ve ever seen. But they’re not too pretty to eat! So far, I’ve tried the following creative combinations:
Raspberry Earl Grey with Berry Buttercream
Chocolate Mate with Chocolate Buttercream
Masala Pumpkin Chai with Cream Cheese Icing
Caramel Amaretto with Caramel Buttercream
I love the unique idea of a tea infused cake and the result is certainly flavorful. The cakes are a bit dense, definitely more like a cake, and not as moist as I usually prefer, but still not too dry to enjoy. The icings are light and airy and they don’t dry out the way frosting sometimes does.
If you’re looking for a cake or cupcakes for your wedding or other special occasion, I recommend you check out the photos on Leaf and Crumb’s website. It looks like they’ll make most anything your heart desires and their creations are certainly easy on the eyes. Prices for custom orders seem pretty reasonable as well.

Leaf and Crumb went above and beyond!
I just ordered a very specialized cake for my stepfather who is a pilot. We gave them a photo of an airplane (that is very strangely shaped), and said chocolate.
In passing I also mentioned that my mother loves lavender flavored things.
We picked up the cake, and it was spectacular! It was a chocolate, latte flavor, covered in chocolate ganache, then covered in fondant.
They surprised us with the most gorgeous lavender cupcakes, made with orange, lavender, and lavender buttercream on top.
Honestly, I couldn’t be happier with Leaf and Crumb.
Not only are they remarkably talented, but generous and their cakes are DELICIOUS.
Everything was a hit, and everyone at the party couldn’t believe how delicious a «shaped cake» could be.
Thank you Leaf and Crumb, you have loyal cake eaters from us!

Amazing baked goods with unique flavors that I can only describe as high end. My favorites are the Earl Grey cupcake and the Sweet Potato Peanut Butter Banana. From week to week and day to day you will find different flavors but each one will in fact be as delicious as it sounds, in fact, I have never tasted something there I did not agree with. The shop seems like it is a pastry chef’s creative studio and anyone can come in and try the unique creations for a very fair price. Will definitely return for more.

I decided to pop in on Saturday, since I was nearby and grab a cupcake. I love cupcakes and boy do they love me; however, when I went in on Saturday, there was only a small selection left. If you want a good selection, apparently you have to get here before noon-​ish? There was salted caramel (a favorite of mine) and chocolate banana. I opted for the salted caramel, which was a mistake. The actual cake part of the cupcake was fine, but the frosting was really airy, like whipped icing, no flavor. And where was the salted caramel part to this? It seemed to be missing. While there was a caramel drizzle on top of the icing, the flavor was lacking and it seemed like some sea salt was just thrown in the mix, because occasionally I would have salty tastes, but not in a good way. Not a mixture of sea salt meets creamy, sweet caramel, but rather lackluster, frothy whipped icing, a taste here and yon of caramel and oh, what’s the salty flavor coming from? It was in fact, a hot mess.
The cake truffle, on the other hand, was positively delicious. I feel like I should give the place a second chance, but honestly life is too short to eat bad cupcakes. Too bad, I was expecting good things from Leaf and Crumb.

What a tasty place! I Unilocaled «cupcakes» a couple of weeks ago, and I discovered this new little shop. Their menu is pretty extensive with some really fun and interesting flavors. I went in with my fiancé, and we shared a chocolate cupcake with chocolate buttercream and a lemon with vanilla buttercream. Both were delicious and quite flavorful. I liked that the cakes actually had flavor rather than having some sort of bland-​butter taste with thick, sugary frosting. No, the cakes were just the right consistency between light and fluffy and dense and cakey. The frosting was wonderfully whipped and light, which is awesome.
Purchase a dozen, and they cut you a deal: 25 bucks, which is a great bargain compared to some of the other shops around town.
If you haven’t checked out this newish shop, you should!
Also, the owner was really nice and helpful with answering any questions.

What a lovely treat this shop is!
Since I was in the area, I decided I’d stop by Leaf and Crumb and get a cupcake for B and I to split while passing out candy to trick-​or-​treaters last night. I came in around 2:15, unaware that they close at 3pm. Despite being the end of their day they still had three cupcake flavors left, a few scones and Halloween cookies. Jennifer who is the owner, described each of the cupcakes to me. Tempted by all three, I ended up buying two: The Pumpkin Chai Cupcake with a cream cheese frosting and caramel drizzle and a Mocha Cupcake that had a Peanut Butter frosting.
B and I agreed that both cupcakes were fabulous! The Mocha Cupcake was a light cocoa flavor and the Peanut Butter frosting was more like a mousse, not over powering, just the right compliment.
The standout for me though was the Pumpkin Chai Cupcake! Honestly, I had a hard time sharing. The mixture of pumpkin cake and chai tea (from Atlas Purveyors in Boulder) made for the best pumpkin cake I’ve ever had, the cream cheese frosting was again, light and not over powering and the caramel drizzle? Well it was the icing on the icing on the cake! I highly recommend you get yourselves over there soon to sample this one out Unilocalers, as she told me it will be a seasonal flavor.
Additionally, the seated area is a nice space to meet up with a friend or two, enjoy a tea and confection and catch up.
Bakeries and cupcake shops have become a dime a baker’s dozen in Denver and need to stand out if they are going to open at this point. Leaf and Crumb certainly does this and I will definitely be back!
