Joy’s Consigned Furnishings

Could the staff be any ruder or unhelpful? Probably not. Went in today looking for a sectional… no one even greeted me or asked if I needed help. Super expensive for used furniture older than 20 years… $ 2,500 for a sectional couch the color of Goldenrod and about 20 years old. Must be a misprint. Sadly, no one was available to help me.

Yesterday I stopped in at the store and asked if I could put something on hold so I could go home and measure. I called the store the next morning to confirm that they still had my item and told them that I wanted to purchase it. They said it was on hold till noon and I asked if they can hold it till one or two because I was waiting on work being done at my house. Anyway I showed up at 2:05 and the chair has been sold. They took my phone number when I put the item on hold it would’ve been nice to get a courtesy call especially considering that I had just called to tell them that I was coming in to pick it up. Incredibly unprofessional and inconsiderate. Will not return.

Great selection from a large variety of furniture. Have bought several pieces and paid about ¹⁄₃ of what these items would have been at retail. Helpful crew of ladies and the guys who pack and load your furniture are very thoughtful and friendly.

I’ve shopped here several times and mainly bought small furniture items (side tables) and accessories (art work, lamps). The prices are fair and the quality is usually excellent. (They’re obviously very particular about what they accept for consignment — I appreciate that.) Customer service has been fine. I especially appreciate their «24 hour approval» process whereby you can take an item home (after leaving your credit card number) to see if it works for you.

I’m a big believer in customer service, and this place fails. ALL of my items were approved prior to my arrival. When I arrived today to drop off my items, instead of receiving a common greeting that most human beings are accustomed to such as «hello» or even better for a business something like, «Hi I’m Joy, I own Joy’s, thanks for coming in today let’s look at your pre-​approved items,» instead I received in a condescending voice, «Have you even had any of these approved??» Well nice to meet you too Joy, did you leave your manners at home today?
In a matter of seconds before any items were even off the truck to get a good look at, Joy said several things were too damaged to sell. I understand that sometimes a photo is not enough to go off of and I can accept the store not taking everything. The problem here is the way I was treated. If I’m going to consign my items that Joy’s is going to make money off of, then I deserve a friendly explanation of the contract instead of being dismissed like a burden. Joy immediately set the tone with her rotten attitude, and that caused me to change my mind about consigning anything at Joy’s. Not only that, but I will never shop at Joy’s either.
After reading other reviews, I’m appalled at this store’s business ethics; shame on you Joy. There are reviews of people getting cheated out of money, or paying for delivery after their items are approved only to be turned away at arrival, and driving a distance to buy an item on hold that is just given to someone else; those people should report Joy’s to the BBB. After my items were ALL approved, I drove my truck 40 miles from storage. But I feel like I really dodged a bullet here by packing up my truck and not doing any kind of business with this store. I’d do the same if I were you.

I went in to ask about consigning some furniture, and the woman I spoke with was as phony and rude as one can imagine. All the sales women remind me of bored suburban housewives – the type who need something to do to keep busy during the day. They’re just as washed up as the furnishings they sell. I’d suggest going elsewhere both to buy furniture or to consign yours.

Not my style but I’m sure someone enjoys this style of furniture and if you’re that person you can certainly find some deals here.
It’s definitely more traditional furniture from thirty years ago. The bedroom sets reminded me of the bedroom set I had as a child (I have fond memories of that set). They had a few nice leather couches, a large variety of mirrors, a variety of chairs, bar stools, dining room tables, patio sets, and let’s not forgot the children’s furniture in the back.
If you’re looking for nice furniture without wanting to pay full designer prices this place is worth a look as long as you’re aware the prices are not dirt cheap like thrift stores, the prices are still what you would spend for lightly used designer furniture.
It was fun to browse, but nothing spoke to me and said, «Take me home». I’m still on the hunt for some furniture so the shopping adventure continues.

What I have come to learn is the ladies that work there simply do not care to be of service or can not be held to thier word. When I was number 2 waiting for an item on hold and the customer that placed it on hold failed to act by the close of business I became the number one person the following morning. I called when they opened the following morning to check I was told I was number one and I had until 2 pm. I arrived prior to noon and they then told me they decided to give it to the person who failed to act by close of business. This is not the first time this has happened but it is the last for me. I have been a long time buyer at joys and I am Done!

I truly encourage every person reading this consider a much better option by going and frequenting Design Repeats just a short drive from Joys here is the info on Design Repeats:

This is a nice family operation and the owners actually work there on the floor and offers a much wider spectrum of furnishings than Joys even some new things.

Great selection of used furniture. A lot of people have complained about the prices but what they fail to mention is that the furniture sold here is in excellent condition and barely used. I bought a patio set for a great deal and they were incredibly helpful with preparing it and getting it into my vehicle. I would definitely suggest checking this place out before buying any big items for your place.

I would not recommend using Joy’s to consign furniture. There are a number of other consignment stores that I will use in the future instead of this place.
The business model of Joy’s is somewhat predatory. They figure that if you take the time and make the effort to bring your unwanted furniture to the store you are already committed to having them sell it, regardless of the price. They underprice your furniture at the outset, then take a very hefty 50% commission off the top. If your item doesn’t sell in 30 days, the price drops 20% (but not their commission; it’s still pegged at 50%). If it doesn’t sell in another 30 days, the price drops another 20% (but, again, the commission remains at 50%). If, after 90 days, your item doesn’t sell, then you can donate it or pick it up from the store. They’ve got your stuff for 90 days and can do just about anything they want with it. Like sell it for less than their agreement stated.
I had a problem with them in that they reduced the price of an item before the actual date of price reduction, causing me to lose some money. When I asked about this, and why the price was reduced before it was scheduled to be, this is the explanation I received (and this is a direct quote from Jill): «Oh, the month of April changed the effective dates of things.» Really? The culprit was the month of April? What, does April now have 28 days instead of the usual 30? Where was I when this announcement was made? And then this customer service gem (again a direct quote from Jill): «Well, the payout figures are correct. That’s just the way your item sold.» Period. No discussion. I imagine that Jill had her arms crossed and was tapping her foot nervously as she said this, irritated that I would even question why I was underpaid.
Here’s the kicker, the thing that is perhaps most irritating: When you receive your payout check from Joy’s, you’ll notice a little debit item called ‘check print fee’ for 49 cents. That’s right, they charge you 49 cents to write YOU a check sending YOUR money to you. Talk about cheap. I’ve NEVER seen this done at a business. With the high commission that they charge, one would think that they could swallow the ‘check print fee’. Shame on you, Joy’s Consigned Furnishings, for being so cheap.
Really, the entire culture of this place is that they are doing you a favor by selling your unwanted furniture. There is a sense of haughtiness bordering on arrogance that is disturbing. They are unbending in their position. My advice is to take your consignment business elsewhere.

The staff at Joy’s went out of their way to make a bad situation right! And a special thanks to Jill. It’s not often that people will go above and beyond but they sure did. We were difficult but the staff never lost their cool. A big thank you to those who were involved with helping us obtain our valued bar stools! Because of you we will be able to enjoy our new home so much more! You kindness did not go unnoticed and we are so grateful! I will spread the word about your business and your great deals! Thanks again for the break! You guys really nailed it!

I love Joy’s. I always check there when i need something and I’ve gotten some cool things there. More expensive than CL — but they make it quite easy with delivery and all, and since I don’t have a big vehicle, and live in a 3^rd floor condo — I take delivery into consideration of anything.

Have to agree that the prices are a bit steep for a consignment center. Having said that, the pieces range from very traditional to almost modern. It’s a huge place and there’s a lot to choose from.

Some of the furnishings are pretty dated. And in my opinion, the prices are a little steep. A great place to look for outdoor funiture in the spring and summer though!

Close to a yoga studio I frequent, I make passes through here once a month or so. Have purchased several inexpensive pieces here that look nearly new. Staff and movers are friendly and helpful. Nothing too contemporary or modern, but basic well-​constructed furniture, pictures, and knick knacks. They have sales frequently from model homes if you like that sort of thing.
