Not too bad… they’re notoriously difficult to get in touch with, good luck having your messages returned. BUT, when we got our stuff, they were very prompt, and quick. None of our stuff was broken, and the guys were super nice when they delivered it all.

We recently used Johnson Storage & Moving for our local move in Aurora and could not have been more pleased with the entire experience. Their office staff was accommodating to our schedule changes and kept in touch daily while we worked through our closing issues. When move day finally came the crew was great right from the star, even calling us 30 minutes prior to arriving to make sure we were up and ready. The 4 movers were polite and very professional. They took great care prepping our houses before moving then took care to protect our furniture inside the home before taking it outside. Move was completed on time and with no damage, We would definitely recommend Johnson Storage & Moving.

Let’s face it– what you want out of a move is for your stuff to be treated with respect and care, and for it to arrive intact. There will always be hiccups, and you have to roll with it; the mark of a good moving company is that they help you deal with the problems. And PLEASE read the paperwork– all movers limit their liability for items you don’t declare as high value, so take the time and do it!
Recently moved to Denver from Washington DC. Company was very professional in their dealings with us. Arranged for a rep to come and give us a timely estimate, then updated it quickly based on additional info and changes we provided them. Packers (from a local United franchise, not Johnson) were a bit haphazard in labelling boxes but did a beautiful job in terms of protecting everything. Fragile and high-​value items clearly indicated. Art (driver) and his crew were great at communicating with us. When there was a problem that resulted in our delivery being delayed by a few days, Art informed us of it and apologized profusely. The unloading crew was careful and protected our floors as they worked. We are still unpacking, but everything of high value certainly arrived intact and undamaged.

Wow… surprised to find out they have no accountability for the safe moving of your goods. If they drop, break, or ruin something even through their own negligence, their liability is $ 0.60/lb. Of course you can buy additional insurance to cover their negligence.
What other business in the country can get away with this type of extortion?

Great place to get used boxes. They have different sized wardrobe and dish packs. Pretty much everything you need if you’re moving your home. And they buy boxes back to help save the environment. I’ve used this place for two big moves and it’s always worth it!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. I have moved over seven times with different companies each time and Johnson has given me the worst experience so far. Moving is stressful enough but whatever stress you experience can be exacerbated if you contract with a company like this. Here are the reasons I do not recommend them :
THE MOVERS FAILED TO SHOW AS SCHEDULED. I had talked to their representative (Matt) who confirmed that the pick-​up date. I never heard from Matt again. The silence from this company was bothersome so I tried to contact Matt to ensure everything was fine. He never responded. When I finally got hold of him he dismissed my concern and stated the movers will show up as scheduled. They did not. In fact, I called the movers and they were not even aware of who I was. I was bounced around personnel and given different names to call. Finally someone called back stating I was not scheduled for my move and they, «will see if we can get somebody there.»
Relying on Matt’s assurances that the movers would arrive as scheduled, I was scheduled to surrender my apartment within days. Johnson did manage to scramble together a crew and picked up my items later that day. I will say the movers themselves were great. BUT JOHNSON DROPPED THE BALL AGAIN.
I HAD TO REPEATEDLY REACH OUT TO THEM TO ARRANGE DELIVERY OF THEIR FORMS. While I was calling Johnson to try to get someone to show up as scheduled, I was told a «Belinda» was handling my move. I tried to call Belinda several times, and left a message reiterating the urgency of my situation. She called long after I left the message, and told me she got a crew to show up. She was not apologetic about the event and informed me she would call later in the day. She never did. When we were on the phone I told her I wanted to pay by credit card and wanted the forms to facilitate a credit card payment. She never followed up.
I called several people over one week to try to get this form and I kept getting bounced around personnel. In the whole, it took me two weeks to get the form e-​mailed to me. A simple request should not have been so difficult to accommodate.
IT TOOK OVER A MONTH TO RECEIVE MY ITEMS EVEN THOUGH I GAVE THEM MY NEW ADDRESS 8 DAYS AFTER THEY PICKED UP MY BELONGINGS. They picked up my belongings on or about 5 June. I did not receive my items until August! I informed them on 13 June that I was ready for delivery. It does not make sense why it took so long. I cannot prove anything, but I think it is suspicious that movement of my items did not begin until after 14 days of billable storage had passed.
THIS COMPANY DISPLAYED A CULTURE OF INDIFFERENCE TO MY NEEDS. For weeks they were unapologetic about not showing up as scheduled. I never heard from Matt about this. Troy was not apologetic about failing to reach out to me to schedule delivery of my goods. I was getting bounced around people to handle my move and no one seemed to be concerned about that. I never got a valid reason why it took so long for them to put my belongings on a truck and send them to me. And even though I informed them I wanted a weekend move they neglected to proactively schedule a weekend. Instead they allowed my items to reach my new state of residence and inform me weekends are booked. I was asked to make myself available during the week. So I then got someone else to receive my items and Johnson still took over a week to schedule a delivery. They never followed up to see if any items were damaged or missing. In fact there were: the bolts to my dining table are gone. Now I have to do find a whole new set of screws and bolts to a table valued over one thousand dollars. Thanks Johnson! The behavior of this company exhibits a total lack of concern for this consumer’s needs and circumstances. You go with them and you may be next.
I RECOMMEND YOU FIND OTHER MOVERS. You have my experience and others below. I have dealt with United Van Lines in New York and had a great experience. I believed that the level of professionalism spread across all its affiliates. IT IS NOT! My experience with Johnson was so bad that I will never give United Van Lines my business again. Now that you are aware of my experience, it is up to you to give these guys a shot. Some other comments here corroborate my claim that Johnson is not reliable and unprofessional. Moving can be tremendously stressful. If you get an experience similar to mine your stress will be exacerbated. DEAL WITH JOHNSON AT YOUR OWN RISK.

We moved from San Diego to New England a few months ago, and utilized the San Diego office of Johnson United. Although the quote was not the cheapest of all that we received, Victor, who gave us the estimate was very professional and accurate. Extra costs such as mattress boxes and shuttle service to two destinations were included up front. Most other companies gave a lower estimate and added those on in the small print as opposed to the total cost.
They were able to work with our move dates without a problem, and also covered some special circumstances. We had a one bedroom apartment and a storage unit at another location, and we were able to get a binding estimate without having to go to both places. Victor was able to give us an estimate based on the size of the storage unit, so that made things easier. All documents were electronic, so signing was a breeze. They even took credit cards through the same method.
As far as the move goes, we had packed everything ourselves. The lifesaver was that the company gave us FREE boxes. Trying to find free boxes, especially larger ones to fit pictures and other bulky items was nearly impossible, so this helped us so much. Loading went well. When the movers arrived, they were from Mayflower, so I was a bit confused. No worries though — United and Mayflower are partner companies. There was a Mayflower truck leaving San Diego and going to Massachusetts the following day, so our items went directly to the OTR hauler rather than going to storage for a week before getting loaded. Less transfers, quicker delivery. The truck actually beat us there! Loading team covered walls, corners, and floors, and wrapped furniture. They had emptied the apartment in about an hour.
So far, I haven’t noticed anything missing or damaged, but things are still in storage at the destination. However, I did send firearms with the movers, which was a huge concern for me. Travelling cross-​country with long guns and pistols would have been a hassle due to certain placed we stopped along the way, so I wanted to send them with everything else. All arrived fine, and specific instructions as far as who to give them to at the destination were followed.
Overall, no complaints other than the confusion about Mayflower showing up in a U-​Haul rather than a marked United van. A little confusion, but all was cleared up with a quick phone call. I would use them again.

I relocated from St. Louis to Denver about six months ago and Johnson did an absolutely outstanding job in terms of price, service, and follow-​up. The crew that delivered and installed my furniture were beyond friendly and completely thorough. I couldn’t recommend them enough.

I had to relocate from Colorado to California. I got a few quotes from different moving companies. I have to say, depends on which agent you have, you will get different quality of service. I happened to have 2 different agents from the Johnson Storage & Moving come in for quotes (by accident). As far as manners and services went, the older agent was much more professional and I went with her quote in the end.
The movers did a good job loading/​unloading my stuff. The dish-​packer did a really great job wrapping everything I have in the kitchen. The inventory and bingo sheet they provided helped a great deal when it comes to making sure everything got delivered. The truck arrived as scheduled. All the furniture and boxes were in great shape. I am still in the process of unpacking but have yet to find damages to anything!
I am very happy with their services and would use them again next time I move.

Very upset with this company… Their drivers are very lazy. The owners have no respect for the laws of our state… State law requires ALL vehicles to have the snow removed from their vehicles before driving on the roads. Did Johnson Storage and Moving obey the law??? No! During a recent storm in Connecticut their truck United Van Lines owned by Johnson Storage and Moving in Denver Colorado license plate A5886 did not clean their truck and as a result the flying ice from their truck hit my windshield, cracking it and almost sent me into the guard rail. I called the company and was informed their insurance does not cover this type of damage. If you can not follow our rules… Stay out of our State! As for the owners of this company… you should pay better attention to your staff, drivers and insurance policies. Step up to the plate and do the right thing! If a company turns their back on these issue… What else do they turn their back on… Check their policy if you would ever consider them for a move… Remember… Movers are a dime a dozen. There are a lot more companies to Choose From

I’ve moved with Johnson several times now and have never had a negative experience! Victoria is swift with the quote, they always show up on time, take care of my belongings, and complete my relocation efficiently! I’m grateful for the help and will continue doing business with them!

Recently Johnson moved us to another local location. They did the «big stuff» and those things were awkward and really heavy. Two movers were sent and arrived on time with good attitudes. They wrapped everything up and into truck. The delivery really amazed me. Hard for me not to watch and see how they maneuvered around corners, over railings and down in the basement. Before I knew it beds were put together, slate for pool table moved and everything else put in place. Would definitely use them again for myself and refer to others.

Review update. Accounting fixed the storage billing error. I received a settlement for the four damaged items. The moving insurance I purchased was for «replacement cost». The compensation was less than ¹⁄₃ of what I paid for the items and nowhere near replacement cost.

I have moved many times and this was the first time is was a pleasant experience. Scott and Mike the main movers were extremely skilled at packing as well has providing levity and making sure all ran smoothly. Belinda and Victoria called at least twice daily to make sure we were happy and all was going well. I will not use anyone else again if I ever have to move.

Bad people. Do not pay suppliers. Surprised United puts up with their ethics!

I understand that no estimate can be exact.
I also feel that since an inventory of items was given, and part of giving a quote is knowing about how long these moves can take, that the estimate given to me should have been much closer to the actual time it took. We were quoted 4 hours to move 6 items, and it took almost 7.5 hours. We did not even get 2 of the items rebuilt at the new location because we were so far behind schedule already. The men who did the move also needed to borrow tools since they came unprepared.
Besides not having the right tools for the job, the men who moved the furniture were very friendly and polite to work with. I feel like the estimate was very far-​fetched. We got several quotes that were less than what we paid, but we chose Johnson because they had the best price overall price quoted. I understand a quote being an hour to an hour and a half off, but the time it took to move these items was almost twice the time actually quoted.
We sent them the above information as a complaint and asked that something be done to reconcile the situation, and they refuse to do anything to make the customer happy. They have not only lost a customer in me personally, but they have also lost customers in the two men that I arranged the move for.

I had a similar experience to the posters who wrote in detail about the experience of the move taking too long and items being damaged, missing or stolen.
I chose this company over three other movers the recommendation of a reputable company who refers clients to Johnson on a regular basis. The estimator was extremely nice and efficient and responsive. Later I was assigned a move coordinator, whom I never met at all, but who was also generally responsive.
My packer was fine.
However, no move is successful when the driver is dishonest. Similar to the other posters, the company sent only three guys to load my stuff, even after I told them that I had 5 – 6 guys from another moving company on my last interstate move. The driver was late to load the truck and exceeded the three hour reserved time by more than 100%, taking 6.5 hours to load the truck.
Among the items missing upon arrival to my home were my guitar. I know it was stolen, along with some other desirable items. Other items were missing, broken, damaged (leather chairs stacked without padding causing each chair to scratch and rip the leather seat of the chair beneath it) broken glass on framed art. The company provides lamp boxes but one of my lamps arrived completely unwrapped and with a broken neck like a sad, dead swan.
The unloading crew did not reassemble items they dissembled on packing, they had internal fights with each other on my property, and they did not bring heavy items to the rooms where they belonged. By way of example, I note that a box marked «bath» was left in the garage. That is just one example.
Of course my «lost» items were never found.
I will say that most of the reps I dealt with after my move were responsive in terms of returning calls and emails (I was fairly hysterical), that Johnson sent out local people (who were perfectly appropriate and nice and affiliated with another company) to retrieve debris, and also sent an employee from that same affiliated company to move things around my home that were not put into the proper rooms by the delivery crew. Johnson also covered the charges for exceeding the move out time out of my unit.
However the loss and damage incurred by the irresponsibility and dishonesty of the driver and his crew is inexcusable. I have moved numerous times and never, ever had one single item either missing or damaged. I do not recommend this company because there is no way to guarantee a reputable driver and crew to move your precious belongings.

It is funny that I started out with Mayflower and fired them due to the lies I was told by the representative and how he held up my pickup by one day and switched to Johnson’s Storage and Moving and signed paperwork stating that. I still do not have my missing items or any tracking number stating anything has been shipped — 8 weeks after the moving company was made aware of belongings still on the truck. Then to find out that United Van Lines, Mayflower, and Johnson’s are all one in the same! What a scam!

We moved from downtown Denver to Evergreen and these movers were great.
It really should have been a three crew move, but there were only two and they worked their butts off with no complaints and a great attitude. We moved out of a big apartment building so they had to deal with a slow elevator and long walk to the truck. The house we moved into has several steps to climb to get to the front door, and then stairs up or down depending on where in the house things had to go. They were exhausted in the end but still in good spirits.
I assumed that they would charge us more than what was quoted because it was obvious that the guy who gave us the initial quote was way off — he didn’t take the stairs into account and a few other things, like telling them to bring wardrobe boxes. They didn’t charge me a penny more or less than what was quoted.

Had a move from Denver to Southern California earlier this year. I had a positive experience with United Van Lines a decade ago, so I decided to give them another chance.
Oops.
Victoria, the sales rep, was prompt in returning calls. The move coordinator regularly did not return my calls. Even 24 hours before we were supposed to move out, we did not have confirmation they would show up the next day.
They did eventually show up the next day. Told the one-​hour window when the truck would arrive and to expect a call from the driver. Never got the call, the truck arrived 45 minutes outside the window.
Move-​out was excruciatingly long. We gave and/​or sold a LOT of stuff, so we did not have a tremendous amount of items. Took six hours to get our stuff out.
Driver said he would have our stuff at destination the coming Sunday or Monday, and he would call. Never heard from him. Tried calling the move coordinator, she said she would call back… didn’t. Finally, the truck driver called late Tuesday night to say he would arrive Wednesday (after his original estimate of Sunday or Monday).
Three items were scratched or broken, including a framed picture, dining room table, and a vase.
The most troubling was that it didn’t seem like they cared. I even got lectured via e-​mail from Victoria about «airing dirty laundry» to a group of people I hit ‘reply to all’ on an e-​mail she sent.
I regret my choice in using this company.
