Thanks to some free tickets from Unilocal,my friend and I had an absolute blast at the 2009GI Joe Stop Motion Film Festival at the Bug Theatre. Some of the films are hilarious(Cobra Commander goes to the Prom) and some are surprisingly serious. You would think that a film festival where everyone uses the same medium would get a little tedious, but it was really varied and interesting. Cheap beers and a great crowd rounded out the experience and made it a night to remember! These guys need to advertise better, because I’d love to make it to the next one!

October 2008 was the 2nd traveling film festival. It was at the Bug Theater which is cute as a bug’s ear(as my Dad likes to say). These shorts are not for everyone. But I loved it. They gave away fun door prizes ranging from little plastic army men to a vintage GI Joe record. Popcorn was $ 1. The first short was called«Fists». A 1975 boxing match between two plastic figures. Some of the others were like a little boy’s fantasy — soldiers fist fighting and shooting each other usually ending in red splatter on the camera. Another was«GI Joe Dance Off» — hilarious. My favorite was«Cobra Secret Weapon» — The Death Star occupied by Cobra. They even had a zombie flick! They were all gory and funny at the same time. It was interesting to see how each of the filmmakers added special effects in such a different way. The intermission had entertainment from The Late Jack Redell and a lovely lady from Burlesque As It Was. I’ll go again for shizzle.
