Gennaro’s Cafe Italiano

First timer, had two slices — very surprised how good it was. Huge pieces, quality ingredients, old-​school Italian food and atmosphere. Good to see.

1^st off you can get a bottle of house wine for $ 12! We got the chianti for $ 15. They had live music on a Tuesday and it was good :) we sat on the restaurant side, which was nice bcause we could enjoy the music and sill hear each other alright. Sausage meatballs are EXCELLENT! Boyfriend got tomato vodka sauce ad it was DELICIOUS. Plus the have gluten free pasta and it’s good! We will be back!

My boyfriend has been raving about this place for forever and I can see why. What you get is well beyond what I expected. We stopped here a few weeks ago during a snow storm and the hot pizza really hit the spot.
We sat at the bar and each got a beer, which are buy one get one free during happy hour (11 – 6 daily), then shared the Italian salad and the 12 inch tiscanni pizza. The beer, mostly Deschutes, was a great price, the salad was huge and the pizza delicious. We didn’t want the peppers and onions on the salad and the guy making it came out of the kitchen to find out what extra veggies we wanted instead, which was really nice. The thin crust pizza was awesome. It was so much food (especially the salad) we ended up taking half the pizza home, which was great.
Can’t wait to go back again!

So good!!! Two sides of the restaurant, one is a bar one is the traditional family sit down space. You can order anything at either. Great service. The calzone is a must try.

Neighborhood dive bar. Staff with character and humor. Touch tunes juke box. Food late. Cheap drinks. Back patio, umbrellas and heaters for smokers. Plenty of televisions, none big, but space is small.
Lots of regulars. Sometimes live music. Always have drink specials. Good folk, cheap drinks. Inviting.

This place is amazing. I always feel at home here.
It’s a hole in the wall Italian place with a great bar, amazing décor, and the feel of perfection and grunginess with a touch of old fashion class. It’s destined to become a place for hipsters, but is still cool today. As the neighborhood is being gentrified, I’m sure we will see many more people in there with skinny jeans instead of the hard-​working people that now frequent the place.
Get it while it’s hot.

The Best place for amazing food in a casual enviroment at a very fair price. The lasagna is beyond amazing!

Spaghetti with meat marinara: pasta cooked perfectly but the meat sauce, other than the unexpected kick of hot peppers, was bland. No taste of garlic, onions, herbs… or tomatoes, really. Pleasant server upped the review by one star.

This is an updated review. Definitely come down and check this place out now that it’s remodeled. They put in a sweet garage door with glass that really opens up the place. It doesn’t feel like a dungeon anymore. The beer is still cold and they have a sweet bogo on deschutes.

Last night was the first time my husband​and I have been to Gennaro’s and the food was absolutely delicious but we just happen to go on Drag Queen Bingo. What fun! Thanks to the great staff and Monica for making it a great time.

Do they focus on Deschutes Brewery? Yes. 7 beers from them on tap? Yes. Pizza? Great, but lose the sausage. It’s a unique fun place. I love real south Broadway. It’s much better than many other places in this bro-​ridden town. Check it out.

Great food for the price. Very filling and taste great. Can’t wait to try here agin when I feel like eating Italian.

Keep it simple today. This is damn fine pizza! Go out on the limb time, The Best in the Denver Metro Area! Hands down.

Gennaro’s has awesome food in a somewhat uncomfortable and awkward atmosphere. There is a dinging room and small kitchen on the right which is connected to a pretty solid dive bar on the left. The two parts are sectioned off by a wall with a door in the middle. Same building.
Food-​wise, the calzone was unreal. Everything about it was good but what set this place apart was the spicy marinara. It is homemade and is the perfect compliment to the cheesy, buttery, savory calzone. This is a no thrills, hole in the wall place right on Broadway. One star off because the caprese salad was horrible, despite the fact that it was recommended by the server. Stick to the calzones.

The ’ divey’ feel only adds to the charm. Owner is incredibly nice and personable. Have not had a bad thing on the menu-​highly recommend the squash soup.

Ok, so I have had lunch here 2 times now the first time it was fast and surprisingly delicious, high quality food. The second time they were a bit overwhelmed and we waited awhile for our food. When the fried mushrooms came they were awesome, nothing coming frozen from a bag here. As I said we waited a while and my lasagna was a bit on the cool side but it still was pretty stellar, and my mom is Italian so I can be a harsh judge. Think we happened to come in right after several large groups and the kitchen was not quite prepared for all the tickets at once.
This is a unique place because the one side is an Italian café and the other side is a straight up Broadway dive bar, which I have NO problem with. The building signage looks to be from the 50’s. The happy hour basically is the entire day so you get some real pros on the bar side. Both times I have been there the staff awesome, really friendly and inviting. They made you feel like a regular even when we weren’t one.
I will be back for lunch I have a feeling today was a perfect storm for them. The food is really well priced and to good and fresh not to give this place a shot. And I have a suspicion that they probably pour a pretty stout drink and they have a lot of tap handles too and it is 2 for 1 most of the day.

It was a great lunch, Mama’s lasagne was really good. Nice selection of Deschutes Beer on draft, very good pairing.

This wasn’t a bad place to meet friends, but it looks a little sad. The storefront is in need of some TLC, and its clear nobody has assessed the appearance of the dining area in a long time. It’s kind of dark, and the carpet is old and worn, and the stuff on the walls are super dusty. Time for a cleaning weekend, folks.
On another note, the food was good, not great. And the waitress that served us seemed to have a bit of an attitude, which we did not appreciate. We didn’t even order anything complicated! I’m not sure if I will be back, but I hope the business does well since it seems to have been around awhile.

A fun place. Local neighborhood divey goodness. Good service, Yoshi, and good classic red sauce Italian — Lasagna etc. This will become a fave haunt. The food is not great, simply good. But it is a fun place and classical goodness.
