This is the experience we had with Directv
Yes — we needed to go out in the snow and clean the dish off — a LOT.
Yes — we also lost service many times because of heavy RAIN.
Yes — there were times where we lost service for no apparent reason.
Yes — we have now discontinued our service — but BEWARE.
Midway through our contract we needed to swap out some equipment.
READ THE FINE PRINT — if they replace any of your equipment at any time — your contract time period starts over. We paid plenty for service not received and I feel like they get a kick out of that part.

The whole point of Directv is to enjoy entertainment on your own personal television, but the problem is that once you sign with Directv, not only do you sell your soul when you sign their agreement contract, but you also wait hours and hours until they apply it to your home. It’s almost debatable whether they are a worse company, or Dish. That’s why companies invented Netflix to «Netflix and Chill,» and Hulu to enjoy some widely free from hassle entertainment. It’s also a lot more affordable. DVDs are good too.
Honestly, if your family gets in habit of not ordering cable like Directv, they may have the strength of forgetting what it’s like to deal with horrible service from the staff of Dirctv, the extra charges, the hidden fees, the outstandingly horrible Internet connection plan, sandy tv signals, and lastly you may get your soul back, because having no cable isn’t actually the end of the world, people. Save yourself a couple of $ 50 and life would be great again.

Beware before signing up for this service! Another company that makes it very difficult to cancel no matter how long you have had the service. I have been a customer for exactly 6 years, and today when I tried to cancel my service, I had an incredibly difficult experience. First they would not allow my wife to cancel on our behalf, and said that I had signed the agreement, and I had to cancel. Than when I called back, they claimed that my wife renewed the agreement for 2 years during a recent service call.
We had called because our almost 6 year old equipment was not working well, and they said they would not replace the equipment without a new contract. I said I would not sign a new contract, but if they did not fix the equipment I was cancelling. They said they would send out a technician, and apparently when he was at the house, somehow he claims that my wife (who is not authorized to cancel the service) renewed the agreement for 2 years in exchange for a new HD receiver. To be clear, we did not want a new HD receiver, we wanted the DVR replaced on the other TV, but the technician said that that DVR was fine, and they replaced the other equipment that we didn’t even want, and apparently had my wife sign something that she did not know she was signing.
I tried to calmly explain that I felt that this not an ethical transaction, and they would not budge and we are fighting over $ 200 of cancellation charges after I’ve been a customer for 6 years. Of course, I had to scream and yell, and I do not enjoy this, but these customer service robots do not care if you have been treated unethically, and now I have wasted several hours of my life cancelling a service, that was never very good to begin with. I only used it for the NFL ticket, and was not satisfied with the service overall.
I would think long and hard before signing up to do business with a company like this.

WORST WORST WORST — literally in tears after spending 4 to 5 days of my life on and off phones, people through my house, waiting for installation people, service terrible, absolutely WILL NOT LET ME OUT OF MY CONTRACT — you only have 24 hours to decide and if anything doesn’t work well you have to pay 24 month contract — $ 100’s of dollars to get out. Went through 3 different supervisors who all said the same thing… never have had a worse experience with anyone/​any company in my life… DO NOT EVER USE THEM — not worth saving a few dollars… terrible ONDEMAND which was the only thing I use and told them this when they signed me up and told me great… WORST COMPANY EVER… I truly feel like I was talking to the most inhumane company on the planet…

Looking through the reviews of DIRECTV, I feel like I am in that vast minority saying 4 stars, I like them well enough and continue to defend my purchase.
Sunday Ticket, (while expensive) is a good service that makes me happy. I wish there were more customization solutions (I follow 1 out of area team, and my choice is to purchase all games) but I understand that if they were to have a NY Jets (my team) package a Patriots (not my team) package, and one for every team, it would be impossible for them to program it in a logical manner.
The packages are sensible and the prices are about what you would expect. Figure standard rules apply that they get you in with a great deal for the first year and then they make their money up on the second year when you don’t have all the deals.
Their cancellation process is surprisingly simple, but prepare yourself for them to call you back and try to win your love back with great deals. And yes, they won me back by giving me a great deal.
The service consistently works (yes sometimes it goes out at just the wrong moment, but most of the time when I turn on the TV, I can watch what I want).
My inner cheapskate wants to cancel, but it is nice and simple, and I like that.
Their phone app is ok, just ok, nothing more then ok. Being able to program my DVR while I am out and about and see a billboard and realize that is a show that I wanted to see, is good. Sometimes it will show instances of the show that are not on my package, which has led to improper recordings that just led to disappointment.

I’ve now had DirecTV for a couple of years. Of course, there are service interruptions, which I guess can be expected with dish-​type services. But, that is not the primary problem with DirecTV. DirecTV has some of the most appallingly unprofessional customer service representatives I’ve ever encountered.
I just spent nearly an hour on the phone with customer service over a simple billing question. The initial representative I spoke with clearly was just reading from a script and not providing anything close to an answer to the question I was asking. I was transferred to his supervisor (after being on hold for over 10 minutes) who proceeded to be rude and abusive.
I then requested to speak to this individual’s supervisor. Her response to my concerns was to state «well, we are number one in customer service …» If that is the case, I would hate to learn about the company in the number two slot.
I ended up nearly hour-​long experience on the phone with no one providing me an answer to my simple question and having been treated abusively not by just one but two supervisory staff members.
Sadly, this is not the first time I had a terrible experience with DirecTV customer service.
Getting rid of DirecTV is actually easier said than done … The consumer bears the cost of getting the dish removed and dealt with when cancellation occurs. Thus, on some level, I feel stuck with this provider. With that said, knowing what I know now about DirecTV and its unprofessional team, I would not have switched from Comcast to DirecTV. If you are considering DirecTV, bear in mind that what seems shiny and nice on the surface can be very dark and disgusting on the inside. In other words, do not engage DirecTV for your television services.

I am so disappointed with Directv customer service. After days of waiting for a tech to respond to my email, I finally received an email telling me to call. After 75 minutes of unplugging, resetting, powering off/​on, unplugging cords, etc. my situation was actually worse. The next step was unplugging all additional components to see if that made a difference but I had to move on with my day and reschedule the call for the next day. (When 3 TVs don’t work at all and the main TV is freezing up and not recording full programs, I don’t think it’s a coincidence — it’s related. Just replace the equipment instead of all this ineffective running around!)
I emailed again to politely express my disappointment and received a phone call from the email guy who asked me why I was emailing him. I explained that his address is the only address I have to get my complaint sent in writing. I asked if he could give me an email address to someone in customer service/​customer loyalty and he said «no, I have to call.» He was pretty patronizing. Again, I can’t do another hour on the phone and I want my complaint sent in writing for the record. SO FRUSTRATING!!! How is it good customer service to frustrate your customers like this?
I knew I should have just canceled Directv but got sucked back in by a discount. (That was another hour on the phone a couple weeks ago.)
So many others have «cut the cord» on cable and satellite and are instead using Roku, Netflix, antennas, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Plex and Sling. I think I’m going to cut the chord and stop subsidizing channels that can’t survive without the big cable/​satellite providers making those channels mandatory.

DirecTV LOVES to tell you it has 96 percent customer satisfaction, and has beaten out cable for over 16 years, I must have been that poor 4 percent who couldn’t get any resolution after many hours of trying on multiple customer service agents over a matter of months. Read on…
After 6 months of using one of the newer genies (a roommate set it up), we liked DirecTV’s menus, hardware and how it worked. Then he moves out, so we need to set up new service, sounds like a normal situation so far.
So we set up new service in our name, and I have to fight with DirecTV to get the newest box, going so far as threatening the office of the CEO with cancellation. During the initial install, the tech tells us ‘this Genie has less problems, those new ones overheat’, giving me the first generation Genie. Blatant lie, he just wanted to get in and out of there before we realized that what he told us was a complete fabrication.
So they deny me on multiple occasions of getting this newer box, telling me I am welcome to pay 480 dollars after their ‘botched’ install with a crappy first generation Genie. Ultimately, I pay 300 dollars and ‘buy’ a new model genie and mini units (which by the way they tell you is impossible), yet DirecTV still levies the 20 to 30 dollar leasing fees to me, they’re craftily called Advanced Receiver fees, which is very sneaky and unwarranted for someone who purchased their equipment outright. At each and every turn my experience with DirecTV has been very ‘meh’, and it’s very clear to see why people just cut the cord and don’t deal with this.
This business doesn’t really care about you as a customer, that much is clear. After a year of working down that early termination fee we just decided to throw in the towel and pay the 200 bucks to walk away. I never thought I would say this, but WORSE than Comcast, at least Comcast doesn’t lock you into a multiple year contracts! Add to that, you have a huge ugly dish sitting on your roof that they will refuse to remove, saying it’s the owner’s responsibility!
UPDATE: Call in to figure out why they are sending me a ‘recovery kit’ for equipment I own. During the process, the guy gives me some ‘offers’ to come back, 58.99 which would include the equipment fees. I tell him I’ll have to get my roommate’s approval, so he said he’d just email me the offer and I could set it up on a later call. Get off the phone, call them back later and they tell me they think there’s fraud on my account (that is closed, btw at this point). Turns out the guy who was trying to sell me on the ‘come back to directv’ plans just signed me up for a year contact without my permission. Honestly DirecTV… take your 200 dollars and I’ll tell every damn person I know of your horrible customer service.
Update2: Account paid in full (including the early termination fee) yet Directv sends me an email today telling me our balance is past due… please… Worst customer service ever!!! Turns out even though I confirmed twice that the genie mini units that I had were owned, they told me they were leased. I ripped into them for this and they finally relented and reflected a 0.00 balance. Account closed, buyer beware, I will never do business with this company (or AT&T, new parent company) ever again.

DirecTV partners with CenturyLink to provide TV service to CenturyLink’s wi-​fi customers. CenturyLink offers 1 year contracts. What they won’t tell you when you sign up for DirecTV paired with CenturyLink is that it is a 2 year contract. First of all, if DirecTV is firm in their two-​year contract policy, it is absolutely absurd for them to partner with a company that uses one-​year contracts. OR, they’re doing it on purpose knowing that people will not realize the two-​year contract until they try to cancel because they’re up on their year with CenturyLink. Regardless, it’s a dishonest practice.
To boot, my monthly bill, combining wifi and TV was under a hundred for about 3 months. Then, it skyrocketed to about $ 150, and by six months in was $ 190. Without having been notified that I would be charged for HBO, I paid the bill, and promptly canceled it. But by this point my bill was about $ 110, mysteriously at least $ 20 over the original cost. When the free (but unwanted) NFL Sunday Ticket ended, the representative was very pushy to get me to keep the subscription. Luckily I was finally able to convince him to let me cancel it before I began to be billed for it.
If you want to pay and arm and a leg for questionable service, unpleasant customer service, and continue to be charged more and more, then get DirecTV. I’m trying to switch to Comcast. I’m over this.

Their customer service is SO AWFUL! Every time I have called I have received false promises. I called to cancel a month out, and rather than cancelling my service when the rep said he would, he made a note that I would like it cancelled 7/​14, and ended service ⁶⁄₁₆. My experience with their employees has been beyond disappointing every step of the way. I even asked to speak with a supervisor and was told no one was available, I know that is not true, but it’s not worth my time to bother calling back.

I will start by saying I NEVER write reviews. Generally, I am an extremely easy customer and I understand companies try their best. I have had DirecTV for 9 months. My husband and I are moving from our current apartment complex to the local seminaries campus, where I will be a student. As per the lease agreement at our new complex, all dishes are prohibited. Initially, when my husband called DirecTv to cancel our service, he was told it was illegal for the seminary to make such prohibitions. I did my own research, and found this law only applies in the event that our unit includes a porch or balcony, which it does not. I don’t like being bullied by companies. I don’t like companies misrepresenting laws that were put in place to protect me, in order to protect themselves. As such, I called DirecTV to cancel stating that; because they are unable to fulfill their end of our contract, I should no longer be bound to pay for their service. The snotty representative retorted with a, «you signed a contract so it’s going to be a $ 300 cancellation fee.»
In addition to their bad policies, poor employee training, and extortion of the law, their service has been subpar. If you are looking for family-​friendly tv programming, RUN… the mere titles of some of the garbage they allow on their network, is a glimpse of the sort of ethical and moral principles of the company as a whole. I would add a few of those titles here to give you an idea, but I don’t want my review to be deleted for inappropriate content.
Finally, If you want to pay a tv provider, so that you can be afforded the opportunity to pay for PPV… DIrecTV is for you! More than half of our channels are PPV. In my mind I think, I could drive 1 minute to Redbox, and Pay $ 1.29, or I could pay an additional $ 5 to watch the same movie… It is not worth the money. I would suggest paying a little more for a provider that actually provides programming worth watching.
Some of you may read this review and think, «I own a house I will never have this problem» or perhaps «I don’t have kids so I’m not worried about the inappropriate content.» I would urge you to consider, that DirecTV is like any other corrupt system. If they can treat me badly, they can treat you badly. You may not have this exact issue, but I gaurentee when you do have an issue, you too are just a number to them.

After hearing about DirecTV for years, I thought I would give it a shot. My wife and I decided to upgrade to the X1 platform from Comcast and install DirecTV for a 6 month period, just so we could give each platform an honest chance.
After 6 months with both services, we consistently found ourselves watching the X1. Actually, DirecTV was never turned on past month 3. The programming is very similar (at least we didn’t notice a difference), but that’s where the similarities end. The X1 GUI is superior, the remotes are superior, the processor is superior… the X1 trampled DirecTV’s equipment in every way. And when it comes to On Demand options, DirecTV isn’t even worth talking about.
So after figuring out that DirecTV was as antiquated as a ’64 Nova, we decided to cancel. After paying the $ 350 cancellation fee — which I was inexplicably charged even though their crap technology is the reason I cancelled — I am ready to go home and Office Space the DVR. And I would if I thought they wouldn’t charge me another crisp Benjamin or two for recycling their trash for them.
So my advice to you is to keep your Benjamins in your pocket and out of the hands of DirecTV. However, if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, go for the ’64 Nova instead. It’ll cost you much less and you’ll actually get something in return for your investment.

At first I thought I liked Direct TV yet they have scammed and double charged me on my bills. I asked for paperless 3 times, spent countless hours trying to get ahold of an employee over the phone for paperless statements just to send a check/​have them cash it AND charge my credit card for the same bill. They offer your free HBO to sign on then charge you $ 80 per month extra just for HBO when they said its free! If you like liars and scammers then Direct TV is for you!

Worst TV and Internet provider that is on the market. They said on the commercials 99% reliability anywhere any weather condition. Bullshit liars. I have their tv service and it wanted to watch a movie during a snow storm from fxmovie and I had no signal from my Satellite. I’m going to sue DirecTV for false advertising and service or going to change my TV provider! I am very disappointed. and angry!!!

One of the WORST customer service experiences I’ve had over the phone!
After being transferred 8 times and talking to 9 people (2 of which were managers) in 3 different departments, I was finally able to demand to speak to a competent manager that was able to get a new cable box sent out to my business. I was being transfered in circles to the same 3 departments over and over again for MORE THAN 45 minutes. What a waste of my time!
GEEZ! Direct TV SUCKS! If I could rate them ZERO stars I would have!

DirecTv is offering within their own channel guide a free offer for the day and then not providing said offer. When I called to inquire about the free channel, I was told that I did not «qualify» for the free channel because I had not purchased a particular «Season Ticket».
I asked why there was no mention of any «qualifying event» attached to the «free» offer and Gilbert #SA0009 responded by trying to sell me the «Season Ticket» (which is clearly a bait and switch move). I mentioned that they should honor their offer in good faith but he said «no». I then asked for a supervisor, was put on a lengthy unattended hold and eventually hung up.
I am generally satisfied with DirecTv, but when a company does something like this you can get a peek behind the proverbial curtain and see the character of the people who are pulling the levers (and the corporate culture). So, just a heads-​up about this company, you’re just a number and a monthly deposit into the coffers of people who are not honorable in the slightest.
P. S. I did in fact immediately file a complaint with the FTC.

They will advertise a $ 29.99 rate, but it’s bait and switch. Every extra channel, every extra receiver adds to the bill. Before I discontinued service my bill was over $ 100 and that did not include any premium channels. I had 2 receivers and TIVO, but no premium channels.
I bought a Blu Ray which has a wireless connection to the Internet. Now I surf the net on my widescreen TV without having to pay the cable TV company at all.
Cable TV will go the way of landlines soon. It’s just a matter of time. I suggest you think twice before committing to a 2 year contract that will end up over $ 100/​mo.

Murphy’s Law that my service tends to go out at the worse times. When Directv works, it is great, but when it doesn’t, you are hosed. A light dusting of snow and I lose signal for 3 hours. Called customers service, was on hold for 10 min before getting a recording about how valuable I was to them, then it disconnected. Fell for the 10 min wait again, then called back a 3^rd time and finally spoke to someone. She was nice initially, but then seemed to be put out by my complaints. She asked me if I wanted her to transfer me to the disconnection dept. — WOW!!! Sorry, these guys don’t realize that they are becoming the dinosaur with Roku and all the other internet options. Better learn to take care of their customers. I feel like they are just throwing in the towels and don’t care any more. Definitely did not make me feel like they gave a damn about my business.
