Denver Community Church

I have been meaning to write a review for DCC for awhile. It seems weird to write a review about a church, but what a great place to find some insight if you are looking for a new place to spend your Sundays.
Denver Community Church has been my place of peace each week for almost two years now. I grew up in church and attended youth group but kind of fell away from the weekly grind in college.
At a time in my life when I was searching for a little structure, as well as a place that would except my open-​mindedness. I came across this place. I actually searched the internet… So I can only hope my review will pop up for another searcher like myself.
Overall, DCC has a great ambiance. I felt welcome the first day I walked in. People are friendly and will be inviting if you want to be invited, and will leave you to yourself if you do so wish. It is kind of a church where you get what you put in. They have plenty of opportunity to volunteer, participate in services and helping out in misc positions if that is what you are looking for. They cater to both an older crowd, families and young folk. I feel there is a majority of younger families and young professionals in their 20’s to 30’s.
They have a great worship team that is always changing. In fact there are a couple so you will never get tired of the music. And of course Michael the pastor has an unforgettable message each week. He does not do the typical feel good, daily devotional type read… He is a scholar and makes ou think. Each week is a lesson. He does not lay things out in a clear message; you have to go home and think about things and actually apply it to your life to really let things sink in. I feel like it is very educational. Plus he is young, relatable, and hilarious.
I hope that anyone looking for a church tries this place out! It is a place i feel comfortable and am excited to share with others.
Services are at 8:30, 10, and 11:30 so you have plenty of options! :) ENJOY!

It was a nice church. Like everyone says, get there early. It had a nice area for people who were late for church, but the place for the children filled up really quickly. I liked the pastor, his view in the bible was different which was refreshing yet confusing, almost inadequate at times. Otherwise, I would go again, it was a nice church to visit

DCC has seen me through a pretty rough year. My husband and I moved to Denver on a whim, knowing no one and without ever having stepped foot in the city. Initially, it was difficult for us to regularly attend service (I was working 45-​hour weeks, including most Sundays), but after being so impacted by the teaching, we did everything we could to adjust our schedules to make more time for our new church community. I’m glad we did, too. I don’t know how I would have endured my work load, illness, and hospitalizations without the love and support of the people at DCC. We’re still not as involved as we would like, but we’re slowly making connections, volunteering, and meeting new people.
Staying connected is certainly a challenge with all of the stresses and demands of today, but DCC makes it easy to remain involved. So far I’ve had the opportunity to serve as a guest judge for the Daniels Fund Mock Scholarship Interviews after hearing about it from a Goodwill representative during service. My involvement with Goodwill, one of DCC’s Local Ministries Partners, has helped me to forge other connections outside of church that are equally as impactful and fulfilling.
What I really enjoy the most about DCC it is holistic approach to ministry. They focus on the health and well-​being of the congregation, the community, and the world at large. Their missions include fighting malaria, combating hunger and homelessness, and supporting young churches across the globe. Between these ministries and DCC’s commitment to nurturing the body and soul of each of its members, I feel that I have really found a church home in this strange city.

I hesitated to write a review of DCC because reviewing a church just feels wrong somehow. I am reviewing DCC because it took me 5 years to find a church that felt like home, and I am hoping to save others some trouble.
Michael H., the main teaching pastor, provides messages that are compelling, relevant, and well-​researched. Both my husband and I are in different places in our spiritual journeys, and both of us leave on a regular basis feeling as though we have gotten something out of the service. Most importantly to me, DCC encourages Christians to have an authentic relationship with Christ and to live authentically and courageously from that place.
If you are wondering where all of the 20 – 30 somethings in Denver go, this is the place. The crowd is young, open-​minded and service-​oriented (Not to mention, this congregation is well-dressed.I’m not saying this is negative or positive; it just is and may come as a shock in a come as you are city like Denver).
The services are at 8:30, 10 and 11:30, with the most popular service being the 10. Plan to come 10 minutes early if you want to snag a seat. DCC has grown tremendously since we started attending 3 years ago and doesn’t appear to be slowing down!

We have tried many many churches in the inner city and haven’t had much luck. We usually find most inner city churches to lack life and spark. This one is a little difference, its non-​denominational come as you are. We have been going about 7 months off and on, and have not become plugged in (our own fault). There are plenty of ways to get plugged in to this church. It is mostly a DU student crown though. Small local neighborhood church, they are grown leaps though. We have tried to find a mega church, but they don’t exist in the city. I was say this is a mini-​mega church and could be one if they had more space, which in the city, no one has or can afford.

I have been in other churches. A while back I fell in with this crowd of Bible thumping Fundamentalists. They took me on as a kind of project — I had just come out of a nasty divorce, was a practicing binge-​drinker alcoholic and did all kinds of other behaviors that were ripe for their judgement. In this, I got all kinds of Religion. But in spite of all that, God found me anyway. DCC is not at all like those people.
DCC has a refreshing lack of religion. Mike H, the pastor there, gives an amazing, thought-​provoking talk every Sunday. His style is to dig pretty deeply into the context of a Scripture passage, and then bring all that to bear on today’s daily life. I leave each of his talks thinking hard about something. In a very good way. The teaching at DCC is very much centered on what the Bible has to say about Jesus’ life, the point of His life and how we are all implicated in it.
The staff at DCC is not afraid to reach out to folks on the margins of society. Indirectly through DCC I and my family found a great ministry where we can buy, cook and serve dinner to the kids at Urban Peak Teen Homeless Shelter once a month. DCC actively reaches out drug, alcohol and other kinds of addicts. You will not find the «country club» attitude here, and you certainly won’t meet the Frozen Chosen. DCC encourages living with wasteful grace.
I have also had the opportunity to reach out to the staff and Elders at DCC, and have had been greatly blessed by their compassion and desire to live Kingdom lives. There is no judgement, no attempts to fix things, just a simple empathy and desire to walk with me wherever I am at. These guys are truly blessed.
