Coyle Inspection Engineers

Our house incurred flood damage during the Sept. 2013 floods in Boulder. The contractor we hired recommended Mike Coyle to do the repair plans. I was at first reluctant to go with their suggestion as I felt he might be partial to siding with the contractor in any disputes. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Mike made numerous visits to our house and I definitely felt he was looking out for our interests all the way. Very pleased.

Providing an otherwise thorough inspection report, Doug missed a massive gas leak coming from the water heater. I noticed the strong gas smell when the house was originally inspected, and it was still there when we moved in. The HVAC contractor I hired to repair the leak was surprised that the house did not explode around my family of six.
I called Coyle twice, and my phone calls went unanswered. Finally, after my realtor called and threatened to remove Coyle from his list of recommended inspectors, I received the courtesy of a call back!
I spoke with Mike Coyle himself. He agreed to refund $ 200 (of the $ 425 inspection cost) despite the fact that Ken’s Electrical had quoted $ 400 to repair the gas leak.
Coyle then stated he would call me back the next day. TWO WEEKS LATER, after no call back, I called Coyle back again to give them one final chance. Luckily, I got a hold of Thea who took down my number and called me back within hours to tell me that my $ 200 check would be in the mail.
To miss a massive gas leak which put my entire family in danger was one matter; to be entirely unprofessional in handling the situation was an entirely different matter.
Needless to say, I would take my money elsewhere if I needed a home inspected in the future.

Coyle home inspection does a decent job of inspecting your home, but they charge for every little item you would like to be done. We hired them to come out and give us a report on repairing a floor beam. In their report they just stated that the beam is split and needs repair, but wanted another $ 175 hourly fee to describe the manner in which it needs to be repaired. We decided to hire a company that was little more inclusive and exhaustive of their work

I am a structural repair contractor here in town. The city requires a licensed structural engineer to prepare a report for recommended structural repairs done on any home. I have worked off of Mike’s reports several times and I know that when I am working for him the home owner is in good hands. When ever one of my customers tells me that their goal is to permanently stabilize a foundation so that they never have to worry about it ever again, I tell them to call Mike.

I’m so impressed with how thorough and diligent inspector Doug was on a home we were planning to purchase. He was very knowledgeable and pointed out all of the issues without being alarmist. He found many code violations, drainage issues, as well as more minor issues. We are so thankful that we ordered the full inspection (expensive, but $ 500 spent now is better than a $ 400,000 mistake later). Our realtor recommended Coyle because they have a structural engineering background, so they check more than the basics (like do the toilets flush … this liberal arts major knows how to figure that out!). Doug went a step further … he figured out that the dishwasher wasn’t draining, and he figured out why, and what the sellers needed to do to fix it. They have our total confidence, and we’ll be using them on our next house purchase (which may be soon, at the rate we’re going!)
