Control Group Productions creates danced-​based contemporary performance driven by open-​ended inquiry and exuberant propulsion into the unknown. Built through complex, collaborative developmental processes, our works achieve rich, unique contents and vocabularies that offer powerful, evocative, highly translatable aesthetic experiences. With extreme rigor, exceptional quality, and a broad network of partners (DTD, Arts & Venues, Biennial, RedLine, etc.), Control Group is changing the face of contemporary live arts in Colorado.

History

Established in 2008.

CGP creates one to three major works each year, ranging from stage events to installation to film. Additionally, we regularly create mobile site and public space works. Our work has been presented by the Denver Theatre District, Denver Office of Cultural Affairs, The Biennial of the Americas, BINDERY|space, Boulder Fringe, ARTOPIA by Westword, and others.

In 2009 – 2010 CGP directed The Packing House Center for the Arts. In 2011 – 2013 Control Group joined The LIDA Project to found work|space Denver, a black-​box venue that presents local and touring performances that challenge boundaries and innovate in their mediums, approaches, and aesthetics. LIDA Project continues to direct work|space Denver as Control Group has headed into a new phase as an itinerant dance company and presenter.

Meet the Business Owner

Patrick M.

Business Owner

Patrick Mueller is a Denver area native. He studied dance, theatre, and fine arts at Pomona College (Claremont, CA) and subsequently lived and worked in New York, Ohio, Germany, and Denmark before returning home to Denver, during which time he performed through out the US, Europe, the Middle East, and Mexico.

Patrick founded Control Group and the Packing House Center for the Arts in 2008 and began creating his own work in January 2009 at the same time that we began operating PHCA as a public venue.

As a choreographer, Patrick creates 1 – 2 works per year with Control Group, including stage performances, live installations, and film.

As former Executive Director of the Packing House Center for the Arts and later the black box venue work|space Denver, Patrick is an experienced curator /​presenter of live performance. He currently serves as lead faculty and Program & Production Coordinator at Colorado Conservatory of Dance in Broomfield, where Control Group is an artist in residency.
