Chimney Doctor

George was referred to me. He was nice on the phone and we booked an appointment for him to come out. He called me on the day he was supposed to be there and said he couldn’t make it. Said he would call me to come out the next day or that afternoon. Never heard from him after that call. It’s been 2 weeks and I guess he doesn’t need the business. Sorry I’m leaving this review, but people should know.

First of all, let me just start by saying I very rarely give bad reviews. I prefer to concentrate on reviewing places I like or loooove, not places that I’ve had a bad experience with, given that everyone can have a bad day and I don’t want to hurt anyone’s livelihood. That said, I came home tonight to a flier in in my door from the Chimney Doctor that reminded me of my absolutely mystifying experience with them.
I first heard of the Chimney Doctor through an identical flier in my door sometime in the last year. I had always wanted to see if I could use my fireplace, and I thought I would be smart and call the fireplace guy at a time of year (spring) when I couldn’t imagine they would be busy. Bottom line, I schedule an appointment for a couple weeks out, and then the Doctor was a no-​show. I sort of blew it off and then tried again.
The next time I tried, perhaps a month or so later, I made another appointment. I mentioned at the time the previous no-​show, and said something like «now this is really going to happen, right???» I scheduled for a 9 AM Saturday appointment, thinking I was a smarty pants by getting the first appointment of the day, so nothing could go wrong, right? 9:10 comes and no one. I didn’t want to waste my day waiting (like I did the first time) so I called right away to get a confirmation.
A sweet sounding young lady answered and said that he was running late and that 2 PM would work better. I had a conflict so I told her that I would call back if I could re-​arrange. After some machinations, I was able to rearrange and called back. She said that she couldn’t give me a time but he’d «try» to get there that day. I mentioned the point of making the reservation was to avoid this, happened once before, blah blah blah and she said «yeah, I know, it’s bad.» I don’t know what the story is with the Doctor but he obviously wasn’t in that day and no one knew the dealio. They never called me back. I did call back ONE MORE TIME (I know… fool me once shame on you, fool me twice…) to see if we could schedule something AGAIN, but this time they never returned my call. I thought maybe they had gone out of business or something. Until, tonight, I got yet another flier in my door advertising for the Chimney Doctor.
Unless the Doctor provides a plausible explanation for repeated flakiness, I would say save yourself some time and hassle and find someone else to do your chimney work. Because now its December, cold out, and I still don’t have a working fireplace.

I don’t know the frist thing about chimneys but George does!
Bought my house a few years ago with a gas fireplace and I wanted to have wood fires so I started looking around. Called a few places and was met with less than impressive attitudes trying to sell me on fake fireplace inserts.
Then I found Chimney Doctor in the Denver Daily. So I thought «can’t hurt to call.» Well what a ray of sunshine! The receptionist was way helpful and had George booked at my place in a week. (fast forward a week) George shows up ahead of shcedule, but he called first to make sure that was OK and it was. He comes in takes a look at the fireplace and gave me 4 options all within my budget. His options/​knowledge was amazing…“if I do this then _​_​_​can happen down the road, but if I _​_​_​_​then _​_​_​_​will work…” I mean, who knew there was so much to it?
So, not only did he do a great job and clean up after himself (which can be a mess) he was very personable too. Thumbs way up for George the Chimney Doctor!
