I don’t know about all this«and Bakery» business, because I’ve only experienced this place as one of the best taquerias in Denver. Ohhhh, their tacos pescados(fish tacos) are extraordinary. Forget Wahoo’s. This place does it up RIGHT, with avocado and onion and layer upon layer of extraordinary seasonings, all served on two soft corn tortillas that melt in your mouth. Plus, they have a kick-ass salsa bar so you can accessorize your tacos to your heart’s content. How much are two tacos, you say? $ 3.00! This place also serves aguas frescas, which are basically pure fruit drinks. The watermelon(sandina) tastes like they put an entire watermelon into a blender and then threw an ice cube in at the end. Your drink comes in a super-duper sized cup. How much is this ambrosial, healthy summer elixir, you ask? $ 3.00 This place is so. freaking. cheap for the quality of their product. Amazing, amazing find.(High five, ex-manfriend!) Warning: if you are a non-Spanish speaker, be prepared to point at the menu items you want. However, I order entirely in my broken Spanish and they are the sweetest people in the world about it.

So it was another exciting Sunday that my husband and I started at our local home improvement store, as we were planning to do yard work and garden for most of the afternoon. We were leaving the store and, since we were a little hungover that morning from too much fun the night before, we decided to find a local taqueria and get us some breakfast burritos. We had been wanting to try Las Tortugas but, sadly, all they had were tortas and we weren’t really in the mood for breakfast tortas. Instead, we wandered next door to Taqueria Chely’s; what a fantastic accident that turned out to be! We ordered breakfast burritos with chorizo and an agua de pina for me, and sat watching the commotion while we waited for our food. It was definitely a family joint, and a friendly one at that. Everyone was really welcoming and anxious to tell us what we should order, and it seemed like every recommendation was different. The breakfast burritos were delicious, not greasy at all(which is tough to do, especially with chorizo), not to salty, and the eggs were perfectly fluffy. The tortillas and toppings were all freshly made. They also have a salsa bar with lots of different salsas, some of which are really hot, and all of which are good. It was pretty small, hot, and cramped in there(this was in July) but they were installing an air conditioner that morning, so I’d imagine that the temperature is bearable now. I will definitely go back.
