Capitol Heights Pharmacy

Pharmacy, liquor store, & convenient store all in one! Plus it’s locally owned! This place is amazing! The staff is very friendly and helpful and they have a great wine/​beer selection! They had my prescription filled before I was even able to decide on a bottle of wine! So pleased to have found this place!

I’ve driven past Capitol Heights Pharmacy a hundred times, but I finally took the plunge and went in last week. Seems like an old school pharmacy, where everyone knows everyone.
Defiantly a hopping little joint. I was surprised at the variety in wine and liquor selection. The prices on wine were a little higher than other liquor store, but for the convenience fact, I know I can come here for anything really.

Excellent staff. I made a purchase a week ago and it fell out of my bag. I realized it when I got home and got over it. Went back today and they had saved the item behind the counter for me. Pretty great store.

Awesome! A pharmacy with a liquor store which is great. A true nieghborhood business where they remember your name. The people working there are super friendly.

I love this business so much! When I first moved into the neighborhood, I thought a liquor store/​pharmacy was an incredibly odd combo– I guess I still find the combination a bit strange, but I can say that Capitol Heights is truly great at both sides of the business. Not only do they stock a good variety of alcohol, I have found the staff to be great at providing recommendations, particularly when it comes to local brands. I have also used the pharmacy, and have found the pharmacists to be very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We actually just moved farther away, but I’m contemplating continuing to use this as my pharmacy, because I received such great service.

I stumbled upon this neighborhood gem and am so glad I did! It’s so nice to pickup a bottle of wine and other snacks/​household items at the same place. It’s within walking distance from my house and I like supporting local small businesses. Plus the cashiers are all very friendly and the selection is very decent for a small store. So happy to have found this place!

This is probably one of the coolest places I have been to since moving to CO. It reminds me of the pharmacies/​convenience /​liquor stores my dad would bring me to as a kid in NY. They have the usuals as well as fun interesting selection of beer, wine, sodas, candy etc. Stuff I have never seen but look fun and interesting to try. If you are into craft beer or wine and like trying new stuff, you would never get bored here. The pharmacy was in the back and looked cute and old fashion! And what better then getting your prescriptions and your prescriptions if you know what I mean! Everything you need! It’s definitely worth checking out. The older man who was working was super nice. He was sticking stuff while I was waiting to be checked out and didn’t see me over the isles mainly because I shorter than the isles! I walked around looking for someone and he said were you ready to check out & apologized for my wait and said how he didn’t see me. Lol which is 100% what happened! No fault to him! Just my genetics! They were so nice and friendly!

*This happened last winter (2013), but I am just publishing my review now. From all of the excellent reviews recently, I am assuming the staff member that I had trouble with is no longer employed here, but I felt my experience should be shared as it was a pretty terrible one and may serve as a warning to help others. I have not returned to this business after this happened and do not plan to. This review only reflects my experience with the liquor store section of the Pharmacy.*
I went in here and asked for a Liter bottle of xyz liquor. The cashier put a Fifth (smaller) size in the bag and ran my credit card.
When I got home, I took the bottle out of the bag and noticed the mistake. I checked my credit card activity online to make sure he charged me for what he gave me. As long as I was charged the correct price for what he sold me, no harm, no foul. Turns out I was overcharged exactly $ 20 on the Liter price and was given the Fifth (smaller) sized bottle. Seems pretty fishy right?
So, I return to the store, wait in line again and tell the cashier the issue in a polite and calm manner. He asked for my receipt and I told him I had actually thrown it in the garbage on my way out of the store the first time. I asked if he was able to just pull up the transaction since I was in there about 15 minutes earlier. He replied that he could not and that there were no returns or exchanges without a proper receipt. Sounds even more fishy right? Of course, a receipt is standard for returns or exchanges, but I found it strange that he couldn’t look up a transaction from 15 minutes ago on his computer-​based point of sale system.
Ok. So, I walk over to the trash can and rummage through the nasty garbage until I find my receipt. I stand in line for a third time and provide him with the receipt, again in a polite and calm manner.
Once he realizes I found the receipt, he completely loses it and starts raising his voice and using obscenities in front of the entire store. He was acting way too defensive, IMHO, for someone that simply made a mistake and it was an extremely uncomfortable experience for myself and the half-​dozen or so patrons in line behind me.
I never even said anything to insinuate that I felt like I was getting ripped off, but his reaction pretty much assured me that I had caught him in the act. He just kept yelling, «DO YOU REALLY THINK I WOULD F*&#ING DO THAT?! WHY WOULD I EVER F*$#ING DO THAT!?» over and over again and was just glaring at me, before slamming the register drawer shut and throwing cash down on the counter. I don’t even know why he gave me the refund as cash. I paid with a credit card and told him I just wanted to exchange for the bottle I initially asked for and be refunded the difference. All in all, a very strange trip to the liquor store.
I was given a full refund, but I do not feel comfortable returning here after this experience. I hope that service has improved.

I finally realized that this liquor store doubled as a pharmacy – and now I use both of these features regularly. This is an adorable place with personable and helpful pharmacists and clerks. They have a small but thoughtful selection of beer. My prescriptions are promptly filled and I’ve arranged for automatic refills each month. It’s nice to get my goods from this cute 12^th street location rather than braving Colfax and dealing with Walgreens.

I’ve never used the Pharmacy because I’m young, dumb, afraid of doctors, and think I’ll live forever, so I can only comment on the liquor/​grocery part. It’s everything everyone says it is. The nicest dudes (it is strangely all dudes), hometown feel, fair enough prices, good to great selection and just all around awesome. My check-​in card here has waaaaaay too many points on it.

I just found out about another AWESOME thing Cap. Hgts. does for us… They will deliver! How fantastic is that? And who else would do that? Huh? It appears the delivery fee is minimal and depends on how much your order is and how far away you live. So the next time you’re lying on the couch, sniveling from that darned cold that won’t go away and you’re sure you’ll die if you have to go out & pick up the Rx’s the Doc called in for you-​do not dispair! Call them!

I contacted this pharmacy after receiving terrible service several times at the Target pharmacy in Glendale. The pharmacist at Capitol Heights– Kristen– was extremely nice and helpful over the phone. She helped me transfer my prescription and input my insurance information.
When I went the next day to pick up my prescription, I arrived 2 minutes before close and Kristin had already left. The man at the liquor check out counter came to the pharmacy counter and let me know that he could have my prescription delivered to me the next day. The person who delivered it, Justin, was very friendly over the phone and delivered my prescription the next day. All around, excellent customer service!
The way this place has treated me is very refreshing after years of dealing with irritable pharmacy workers at Target.

Isn’t it great that there are still some owner occupied businesses around?
We use this pharmacy because we are greeted by name, treated respectfully, and given the best service! A complete 180 from chain pharmacies.
Our wine supply also comes from here. Good selection at fair prices. Again, excellent service and easy fulfillment of special orders.
Oh, and if you need ice, greeting cards, magazines, or basic grocery items, that’s here too. EASY parking.

I’ve never actually used the Pharmacy services, but the wine and beer selection are an awesome surprise. Great location, great hours, great selection, and I always enjoy a little chat with the staff.

This is the best pharmacy! They know their patients and will have things ready when needed. If you are thinking about changing pharmacies, here is where you wanna go.

This is a great place if you need liquor, late nights snacks, medicine, even birthday cards! They have everything, and they’re just down the street from my house which is so convenient. The guys behind the counter are always friendly and helpful. It’s just a cute neighborhood place for all your boozey needs.

I have never used this store for the Pharmacy aspect so my review is based on the liquor/​convenience side of the store. This place is awesome. It’s a block away from where I live so I can walk over at any time and grab a six pack or a bottle of wine, or on multiple occasions Velveeta mac and cheese. The liquor selection is great, they have most of the beers I like or find myself in the mood for. Much better atmosphere than the liquor store on Colfax right by my house, where I or other patrons frequently get hassled by vagrants. Never had any encounters like that at Capitol Heights. Great for stopping in and grabbing alcohol last minute, or when plans change and you find yourself at home and in need of a drink.

My favorite neighborhood liquor store. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. Plus, who wouldn’t enjoy saying, «i need to make a run to the pharmacy to buy beer».

This place is just all around awesome. Its been open since I can remember and the people that work here are great. Best pharmacy /​liquor store ever!

Oh how I love you, local pharmacy /​liquor store! I frequent you often and you are always warm and inviting. The staff is awesome and very friendly. A great place pick something up that you may have missed at the food store. Close to our house so it’s always convenient to swing by and grab some beer or what have you. I will continue to grace you store with my presence. Much love.
