Specialties

We accept donations of usable art, craft, sewing, school and office supplies. We make those materials available to the whole community at a fraction of the original cost. SCRAP also provides education for kids and adults to spread our mission of creative reuse and to inspire people to think about what’s a usable material and what’s waste. We believe there are a lot more usable materials than trash out there!

History

Established in 2012.

We are a project of SCRAP that is a 501©3 nonprofit headquartered out of Portland, OR. Our mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing affordable materials and educational programs to the community. We opened our doors in Denton in January of 2012.

Manager

Heather began volunteering at SCRAp in Portland, OR in September of 2010. She was hired as Volunteer Coordinator in May of 2011 and has been working to inspire creative reuse in Oregon and Texas ever since.

Cool supplies, but gave me anaphylaxis. I’ve been to other antique stores and never had a reaction like this. No joke, had to go to the doctor now I’m on prednisone. The owners of his store really need a I get it fumigated for mold and throw some items away. Won’t be going here again and won’t recommend until they seriously make it more Sanitary. Cool store otherwise, but asthmatics, even mild ones like me BEWARE.

This is such a cool place! I was specifically searching for an independent yarn store and they popped up as the only match in Denton. This is a crafters heaven! Tons of random stuff to use for art projects on the cheap! Art teachers should definitely check them out. I would have loved to have had them as a resource when I was teaching second grade! The store is packed but is very organized. I was super excited by their yarn selection. They have it organized by color and also by type. I was able to find a couple of full skeins and then several partials, which is perfect for a project I’m working on. The girls working the register were very nice and friendly. I will securely be back, and I definitely recommend them!

I am from out of town but my sister told me about this gem. What a great place. Craft supplies, odds and ends, paintings, pictures, you name it. Sure wish we had one back home! I’ll be stopping in again when I am back in town! A gem!

It’s hard for me to say anything bad about this place since it’s a non-​profit and everything is super affordable… but I feel like it could be organized a bit better! That won’t stop from me going back though. Love this place! Found more cross stitching supplies/​kits than I ever have at any other store!

Crafter heaven! They have a room stacked to the ceiling with fabric, piles of vintage sewing patterns, notions, knitting needles, yarn, old trophies, beads, wood of all shapes, wallpaper samples, tile samples… just about everything you need to make well, anything! I picked up a drop spindle for $ 1, a ball of vintage wool, and then I found the books and magazines section and went a little crazy. To my credit, the magazines were .25 or 10 for $ 2. I managed to get 9 issues of Interweave Knits, a Mollie Makes, and then I also grabbed two books for $ 7, one about polymer clay jewelry and the other a vintage Better Homes and Gardens book of knitting and crochet patterns. Not bad for $ 13! If I lived closer, I’d be in here all the time!

As an art teacher a store like this is invaluable! Basically it’s a creative reuse store. Things that could/​should be reimagined changed into something else can be found here. Prices are downright cheap .50 for oil paints 2.00 for a canvas lots of inexpensive finds. Things have been preowned so don’t come in expecting new items. Also, expect it not to be the same place every time you go. Turnover is very quick so if you see it get it.
They take donations as well-​check the website for a list of materials. I’ve taken in several items and it makes me proud thinking they have an opportunity to make someone else happy. I can’t recommend this place enough.
