Jean Leigh Academy of Dance offers dance to students 2 ½ years old through adult. Classes are taught by professional, experienced instructors. Courses offered include, classical ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop and tumbling. Zumba fitness classes are also available and are offered 3 times a week. Students are given the opportunity to participate in the annual revue held at the Baton Rouge River Center. Classes follow a strict syllabus and are structured in a way to ensure each student receives the utmost attention and opportunity to advance. With 35 years of experience, Jean Leigh Academy of Dance is an excellent choice for anyone who loves dance!

History

Established in 1979.

Jean Leigh School of Dance was founded by Barbara Bowden who believed her community would benefit from having a professional dance school in the area. As an educator for 16 years in East Baton Rouge Parish, Mrs. Bowden knew a community strong in the arts was vital to the well being of it’s citizens. Starting off with 25 students, the studio was forced to relocate after only 2 years due to increasing enrollment. With continued success, a second location, Jean Leigh Academy of Dance opened in Livingston Parish in 1985. The studio integrated two years later and has been offering dance to students of all ages for the past 35 years.
