Somewhere over Independence Pass, I noticed my brakes were going soft (again). At this point of my Western US road trip, I figured something’s up with my brakes. I had to get them adjusted every 600 – 800 miles. Rather than continuing onto Durango, CO on along 550 late on a Friday night I decided to camp for the weekend in Montrose and look up the local VW mechanic that had been referred to my by the local brake shop. I left a message the shop’s voicemail and arrived first thing Monday morning. Bob diagnosed and fixed my brakes in 30 – 40 minutes while I waited. Turns out I had (have) a bent tab on my back plate and my brakes just need regular adjusting and maintenance. He charged me $ 20 buck and I was on my way. Another great old school VW mechanic.
