Great tucked away fish market. A lot of the choices change daily based on what is locally caught! Nothing you see at places like whole foods or publix is ever locally caught and truly fresh. If you want fresh fish — this is a great place to go. Also, you can get(depending on what’s caught the day before) Tile fish, Hog fish, Cobia, Wahoo, lion fish — all rarely available at any big market stores. Hog fish and wahoo are personal favs! Not to mention, unlike Captain Franks in Boynton, this place doesn’t price gouge for tourists and snowbirds.

Well Unilocal, you did it again. I am a seafood devotee, unfortunately the fish market I had been going to let me down one too many times. I don’t usually push my luck & buy fish at the food store. I grew up always going to a market. So when I knew I could no longer go to my old market anymore I did panic a little. Okay, more than a little but then Unilocal brought up Captain Clay & Sons and my husband & I went the same day. That being said, all my fears have subsided! I love this place. Everything is fresh, nothing is frozen. This family operated business is friendly & wonderful. Now all I can say is that there is no trace of fish fear left!

What a great market! I shop here all the time to purchase the best local seafood. The quality is amazing and the staff are super friendly. They always have a great selection of both local and imported fish(non-Florida). Their prices are fair and you know everything is fresh… my kind of place.

Extremely friendly and know how to take care of the customer. The seafood is always fresh! Much better than Dixie Seafood as they have the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Thanks for being in Delray Captain Clay!

Love this market! It’s by far the friendliest, most helpful seafood market in PB County. Always fresh, no frills just good fish. Don’t be fooled by the small case. Lots of whole fish in coolers behind the counter. Family run shop will fillet for you & you can call your orders in ahead of time. They’ve been nice enough in the past to stay open a few minutes later for me on my drive home from work!

All I can say is WOW. Owned and operated by the nicest people ever. They answer all my annoying questions with a huge smile, cut all my fish anyway I want, and give me instructions on how to cook it. Last March they sold me a piece of Cobia that was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten after getting an amazing recipe from Reed. This time around I left with tilefish, mangrove snapper and mahi mahi that was so fresh it was alive only a few hours before. Whenever I am in Delray I make a point to stop in and grab something fresh. Highly HIGHLY recommend.

You can’t get fresher seafood unless you catch it yourself and if you do you will see their boat next to yours. You tell them what you want and they pull the fish from the igloo /Rubbermaid bin. NOTHING is frozen or refrigerated. Prices might be a little higher then other places because most other places freeze their catch and say its fresh. This place does not do that! It’s ALL caught that day! I’ve been there twice and will definitely go back. Obviously by the name its a family business and when you walk in you’ll be introduced by mom and or son.

Almost Four and a half… Came thru in a big way on New Years Eve Day when preparing my renown linguine and clams for a group dinner. A fantastic deal of a 100 count bag of littlenecks for 30 dollars not only pleased the wallet but yielded fantastic results in terms of quality. There literally wasn’t not one bad clam in the bunch. The staff was friendly, engaging and knowledgeable, the were instantly able to source the province of said clams, which qualifies as somewhat local I suppose considering they hailed from North Florida. Also this adorable old lady came in to deliver a fresh batch of her homemade banana bread which they sell here, an extremely heartwarming routine to witness. A impressive offerings of Florida fish was offered although I didn’t partake on this occasion. I will certainly be back when in town, and look forward to trying not only the varieties of fresh fish offered as well as the house version of the smoked fish dip. That is a South Florida classic if there ever was one, and I have a feeling, based on the numerous accolades it receives on this site, that it will more than qualify the place getting a boost up to 5 starish status.

Visited Captain Clay’s because I was searching for shrimp for a last minute get-together. There is NO comparison to the shrimp you get at Publix. Captain’s shrimp are pink, fresh and oh so good. They will steam the shrimp if you give them some time. I was in a rush so I opted to do that at home. I only went for that one thing but left with some of the best smoked fish dip I have ever tasted. In fact, as I was waiting for the shrimp to be packed, one of the fish mongers was making a fresh batch. I am on my way there again today to pick up dry diver scallops and some more of that fantastic fish dip. What a find! I will never purchase seafood in the grocery market again! Ever!

I live a couple of blocks from this fish market. I’m relatively new to Delray Beach and am extremely fussy about food and fish in particular. The shop is in an unassuming«strip» of stores adjacent to Federal Hwy. I asked for advice because I wanted to eat something local and thus, wild. The corvina fish was new to me and it is spectacular on top of the stove with a little butter/oil, salt, pepper and fresh lemon. Yes, it’s pricey if they fillet it for you. But I’m not having fish every night and it is THE best fish I’ve ever had. The yellow tail snapper is equally delicious. I guess it’s possible but I cannot imagine them selling something that has gone bad. There’s too much at stake and the Captain is out fishing practically everyday. I love supporting a local, family owned store and feel lucky to have them within walking distance from my home.

After my mom and I were disappointed by the salmon available at Whole Foods, my trusty iPhone led us to Captain Clay’s Fish Market after searching for fish markets. When we pulled up, it looked like any other shop in a Florida strip mall, but we proceeded in anyway. Inside, we were quickly greeted by Reed, who was very friendly and eager to please. While the fish selection looked small, it all looked fresh and Captain Clay’s was very clean with no bad odors, like the overpowering smell of fish. Immediately, my mom found what she wanted, which was a King Salmon filet, which looked very fresh. Her perceptions were correct as they had just got the salmon in that morning. While it was pricey at $ 22/lb, which was $ 6 more than Whole Foods, we bought it as it looked good. Needless to say, our perceptions were correct as my mom found the salmon to be excellent, even being sushi quality as she tried a piece of it raw. Once she cooked it, it was moist, flakey, and delicious. We liked Captain Clay’s Fish Market so much, we went back there whenever we needed fish while vacationing in Highland Beach. For excellent fish and friendly and knowledgable service, you can’t beat Captain Clay’s.

I was having a huge lobster dinner for visiting family and ordered 12 lobsters for a Tuesday delivery. They called me at 11am the morning of the event and left me a message saying they didn’t like the way the lobsters looked! A message! I had 15 coming for dinner … At least they should have tried to help find replacements! Never again!!!

Sometimes good, but occasionally you get sold an old piece of fish which should have been taken away from the cooler and not sold.

In contrast to the first review, I have been going to Clay’s for years and have gotten A TON of stone crab claws as well as numerous very large Maines lobsters(which he ordered ahead of time for me) and have always had a good experience. I really like the family-owned and run deal they have going there– the whole crew is really nice and helpful and I’m happy to have them conveniently located in my area.

This store is not up to par with any other fish market in the area. The tiny tiny space it occupies is not the problem. The problem is that Captain Clay isn’t above selling something that may be. .. to put it politely. . old. After Delray Seafood closed a couple of years ago and Captain Clay opened, I tried, I really tried to make this my seafood market, but the quality just isn’t there. The final blow was when The Captain himself sold me a bad bunch of stone crab claws, and he knew it! How do I know that? I had him crack them for me, which he did, then wrapped them up and charged me $ 85 bucks, which I paid in cash. When I got home three minutes later, and unwrapped the claws, EWWW. .. obviously not edible! Stinky & had to throw them away! His shop was already closed and they’re not open on Sunday, so basically I threw $ 85 bucks in the trash. But the fact that he KNEW they claws were bad because HECRACKEDTHEM! That is why I’ve never been back since, and I’ve told every person I know about this really unacceptable experience. The guy is basically a crook. .. whatver!
