I normally love Tom and Jerry’s until I fell victim to their«no refunds» policy after my burger came covered in a thick, black oil. Not cool. I’ve been a customer throughout my time at NIU and probably won’t order from here again. If the owners cared about their customers, they’d review the no refund policy for when it fit the situation.

Tom & Jerry’s has the best italian beef sandwich in town! The menu is large and everything we had was delicious! I loved this place when I was in college and I was happy to come back and visit and enjoy their yummy food!

I went to NIU for a year back in the 90s, this place was there back then and is STILL there! I guest lectured last night for a class at NIU, and class got out around 9pm… I wanted to grab food before heading home, and along Lincoln Hwy I spotted Burger King, Taco Bell… Jersey Mikes, and then I remembered Tom & Jerrys… I was super happy to learn not only are they still there, but open late too! Of course being in DeKalb, what I really wanted was beer nuggets but … I’m on a low carb diet and that wasn’t going to happen. A gyro minus the bread would hit the spot though! There is a variety of food on the menu, but I wanted the gyro so I looked past everything and spotted the $ 7.99 monster gyro so I inquired what that was about and it was a LOT more meat, less bread. Perfect! The girl working there even asked if I wanted the bread and I said no, as it would tempt me to eat it. I left with a styrofoam container with a good amount of gyro meat… enough for two meals as I’m having the rest for lunch today. Long Live Tom & Jerrys & their gyros in DeKalb!!!

Typical American food joint. Burgers, wraps, gyros, etc. This was my first time here and the staff was very friendly. The cashier recommended the gyros plate so I went with that. For $ 7.99 I got a hearty helping of gyros with fries and a soft drink. It was average but upset my stomach later on. I would go back but I’d stay away from the gyros after that experience.

I have been a regular consumer at Tom & Jerry’s my whole life! I really don’t have any negative critics at all. People are great, service is great, food is great! My daughters love it too! Large selection. I highly recommend the gyros and the ribs are some of the best I have ever had!

In the mood for gyros and hadn’t tried this place out yet! My friend and I ordered gyros, fried pickles and breaded mushrooms. Gyros were disappointing. They weren’t hot nor were they cold. Just room temperature… didn’t know what to think. Tzatziki sauce was peculiar too. Breaded mushrooms were average. Fried pickles though? They gave us four spears. That’s one pickle… idk how that was worth what we paid. Also the Pepsi tasted funky and was flat. Needless to say, I will not be back.

This place has really gown downhill since new owners/management took over a couple years ago. The quality of the food and portion sizes have gone down, while the prices continue to rise. I’ve been eating here all my life(and used to love it) so I definitely notice the difference. The burgers are insanely thin and always beyond well-done. 90% of the time the hotdogs are cold with a stale bun. The fries are cold 99% of the time and taste like they’ve barely been cooked(like biting a raw potato). The Italian beefs and garlic beef wraps seem to be some of the only items where you’re still getting a decent portion size. Not a bad place if you pick the right items, but it can be hit or miss.

Tom and Jerry’s is a great place to stop in for a quick bite! I have only tried a few things on their menu, but I am quite certain that their gyro platter is delicious. I am also a fan of their shake machine and I believe they try to rotate the flavors to keep things new.

3.5 stars I prefer the other Tom and Jerry’s(they used to be the same owner, but the owner sold the Dekalb location), but this is the one that delivered to my apartment. I’m picky about my gyros and I didn’t like them here — I thought the sauce was gross. Mainly, I stuck with ribs, hot dogs, and fries — they have really good rib deals, and they deliver until really insane hours. When I lived in the area it was 2 am weekday and 3 am weekend! Where I live now, I can’t even find anywhere that makes a decent thing of ribs, let alone delivering them to my house(or at 1 am when the craving hits!) It’s great for delivery, though I wasn’t impressed with the sit down service, and I do miss the convenience and food they provided when I was in college.

IIf you want your order screwed up then order here. They screwed up or last two orders in a row and were rude when we called back. Last time we’ll order from them.

Really yummy Italian beef. My husband loves the spicy giardiniera. We always stop here when we’re in the area.

Quick fast service despite really being busy with phone orders. The food was above quality beef place and I was surprised to see so many take out orders for just a regular place like this. I went as the student population is mainly gone and their phone was off the hook the short time I was there. Must say something about the business or the town. Good burger and fries.

This is you average Gyros, Burger, Hot Dog kind of place. Except it’s in corn town. When I was living out here, I really like Tom and Jerry’s. Part of it was because it was really the only place to get a Gyros(other places opened but closed down, RIP It’s Greek to me) but also because they had a good variety of a menu. The service here is usually ok, never had anything outstanding and on occasion it was kind of bad. The place is usually clean which is kind of impressive considering how late they’re open to and potential for drunk high schoolers and college students to do their thing. I would say their Gyros alone warrants them 4 out 5. It’s actually pretty good. Ample meat, slightly dry, good sauce. The rest of the food here is more like 3.5, better than average for sure. My issue is that the food quality is inconsistent. Sometimes you’re like whoa this is great and other times you couldn’t be more underwhelmed. I guess if you’re looking for those«Greek» fast food place out in the DeKalb, this is it, literally the only place like that. So if you’re craving a gyros of other slightly better than chain fast good place this is your place. I guess it’s a… Meh

I probably should have written a review when I only had a Reuben sandwhich here. That’s the only thing I would ever order because it was huge and off the chain! I decided since they’re known for Gyros, I needed to finally try one. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed and had to knock a star off. The gyro was really packed with meat, can’t deny that! I couldn’t even pick the thing up. I had to do the unthinkable and use a fork and knife. The meat was dissapointingly dry. The sauce was bland. It came with tomatoes that were cut in quarters, so you couldn’t get a taste of them with every bite. I had to remove the onions. I think they literally stuck half an onion on it. I also ordered a side of large crinkle fries. They were decent. Tasted like crinkle fries. I hate to say the place known for Gyros doesn’t make a good gyro. Maybe it was an off day? Oh well… I will say if you like a good solid Reuben, they definitely don’t dissapoint on that!

Service is great and resturaunt is clean and friendly. I have been here before but it has been probably 8 or so years ago. The disappointment came with my order. I am trying to be paleo so ordered the chicken gyros. The Tom & Jerry’s in Sycamore it is the same as a regular gyros, shaved meat. Here, they simply cut up a very small chicken breast, put on onion and tomatoes and called it a gyros. Not sure what other differences there are so will try to give them another try some other time.

Decent food but much better about 5 years ago. Portion sizes are smaller. And ‘no sharing’ for pop. Really? How cheap!

If I like you chances are I’ve taken you to this diner with me. It’s my fave place to eat close to school. I have no idea what P.W. is talking about, the only thing I don’t really care for here is the burger patty but apart from that, everything I’ve had is tasty. I’ve never had a stale bun or anything. I HIGHLY recommend their grilled chicken wrap, I had it today and it was awesome.

This is one of those local DeKalb places that used to be good but doesn’t really give a crap these days. I think they know that no matter how shitty their food and service is they’re always going to get a steady stream of drunk townies and NIU students wandering in hammered on Busch Lite, too inebriated to notice that the food sucks. Now don’t get me wrong, sometimes the food is decent here, and sometimes the service is actually pretty friendly, but it’s just too hit-and-miss. Too many times Ive gotten meat that is served at lukewarm temperatures, buns and pita bread that are tough and served stale. Just peek back in the kitchen or look in the bathrooms and it will give you an idea of just how much overall care they put into their restaurant. Avoid this place on weekend nights unless you are in the mood for a sloppy, drunken horror show of intoxicated greaseballs in backwards baseball caps yelling and screaming, gorging on their food while making a god-awful mess of the place. Lukulos serves similar food and they do it much better, go there if you can or head out to the Sycamore Tom and Jerry’s(different owners) that has pretty much the same menu but the difference in service and quality is night and day.
