Mason Properties

I never thought I would dealing with a property manager would be a positive experience. However, the people at Mason Properties are very understanding. I used Mason Properties all 4 years I was at NIU. They were very understanding if I was a few days late on my payments. I have suggested to all of my friends to use Mason Properties. I have nothing but good things to say.

I live at UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! There are drug dealers in almost every apartment, screaming babies, bike thieves, car vandolizers, etc. Every type of scum you can imagine lives in this complex. Mason Properties does NOTHING about complaints and never repairs their crappy apartments. My carpet is thread-​bare, my windows allow bugs in, and I put in a work order almost 8 months ago… NOTHING. I HATE MASON!!! Never ever ever rent from them! You get what you pay for. Do not be tempted by the cheap rent!!! It’s not worth it!!! I’d rather pitch a tent and live in the woods!

More like 2.5 stars. After a bad experience renting from Star Apartments the previous year, I became a real documentation freak. Any complaint I had came with photos from every angle and a signed and dated letter. I had a lot better results this way, I don’t know if it was because the staff at Mason was better than my previous landlord or because of my documentation.
Compared to Star, I thought the Mason staff was more helpful, was easier to get in contact with, and responded much quicker for repairs. I felt like they actually listened to my complaints as well. Because people were parking so sloppily, I was having trouble finding a spot in my own parking lot. I told the landlord, and they sent out letters to all the tenants and started towing people who were parked on more than one spot at once. So I was happy about that.
I was disappointed at the walk out. Our place was in good shape and very clean, but they still kept most of our deposit. And they wouldn’t let any tenants be present at the walk-​out inspection, so you couldn’t even argue any of their claims. I would have tried to contest this, but by then I had graduated from college and was tired of fighting landlords.

Don’t rent with this slumlord. I can go on and on about how shitty the service is.
My car was towed from my own parking lot with a sticker on it because of their un-​uniform parking lines. The pool that they had got filled in with sand because the owners did not want to repair it. They will take all your security deposit almost so I’d recomend that you don’t clean it when you leave because your going oto pay 90% of deposit if you leave the place immaculate.
I’d give this 0 stars if I could.
