Dedham Institution for Savings

I’ve had an account with Dedham Savings for several years now. The people who work at the branches are polite and extremely competent. The one aspect of this bank that I’m dissatisfied with is their online banking. I use their overdraft protection. You can’t transfer funds from your checking account to pay off your overdraft protection online. It’s hard to believe that in 2016, you need to either go into a branch, or call on the phone, to make such a transfer. I find this to be extremely inconvenient. When I opened my account several years ago they said that they were working on this anachronistic flaw, and from time to time, when I complain to the tellers (I know they have no power over this) they say that they expect it change someday.
Other than that, it’s a fine bank.

We closed on our home in Westwood, MA yesterday and we couldn’t have done it without Dedham Savings and Doug Natale.
My family has been banking with Dedham Savings for over 25 years. My first home’s mortgage is with Dedham Savings. We trust them and find them very easy to work with.
When we went to purchase our second home, we knew that we wanted to go with Dedham Savings. However, I did attempt to call two other banks first — just to be sure that I was well informed. One bank laughed me off the phone and the other one told me not to buy the house when I explained our situation. When I finally called Dedham Savings, Doug listened to our scenario carefully. Doug (and Dedham Savings) are not the type to take risks because they always want to protect their customers and the bank. With Dedham Savings and Doug, we felt that we were not putting ourselves at risk at all in getting in over our head because they are so meticulous about looking through your financial situation. Doug took my complicated scenario, used some creativity, and was able to make our family’s purchase happen on time and without financial risk.
Doug is the kind of professional that is easy to communicate with. He is easy to get in touch with. He responds to email and phone calls quickly. He is caring and very sensitive to his customers needs. While he is professional, he is also personable, which make the mortgage experience enjoyable when it otherwise might not be. On one occasion, I was under pressure for a time deadline. I called Doug to see what he could do to help me meet my deadline. To Doug’s credit, he called me at 7:00 AM on his way into work. By doing that, he made me feel like a priority and I realized how much he cared about my particular case.
Doug is always upfront and honest with his customers. He is able to be straightforward and let his customers know exactly what is going on. He works tirelessly to make sure that all deadlines are met.
My husband and I highly recommend Doug to any person, couple, or family that is in need of financial products that Dedham Savings has to offer. He, and Dedham Savings, made my family’s home wishes come true.

Last week, we closed on a new home in Walpole and it is 100% due to the timeliness and attentiveness of Dedham Savings. We worked with Doug Natale after Bank of America decided they were wealthy enough and didn’t want to commit on the loan they had promised us THE DAY OUR COMMITMENT WAS DUE. I called in to the Dedham Savings system form an airport in Indianapolis at 4:30 and was routed to Doug at the central office and told him my scenario. He met me the next morning upon my return first thing and already had my application pre-​filled out for me and had notified his team of the urgency I required.
Doug ran around his office and the South Shore collecting signatures and paperwork on my behalf WHILE IN CONSTANT communication with myself and the two real estate brokers so there was never any ambiguity in the message. We were able to successfully close on the property within 3 weeks of my first call to Doug.
Due to the entire experience, my wife and I have severed all ties with BOA, moved all accounts to Dedham Savings and are blown away with ‘the little things’. A followup call from a VP to see how our new accounts were working, a handwritten card from the Bank thanking us for our business and more.
Going to Dedham Savings was the best part of the entire home buying experience. Only downside, Doug did not come help move stuff upon move in. I am still giving a 5 star review though.

We have been extremely pleased with Dedham Savings. They were very easy to work with for the construction loan on our new home, and on the transition to a standard mortgage once our construction was complete.
I have recommended them to a few of my friends and will continue to do so.
Saw one comment about the paperwork to establish a relationship between your accounts in order to transfer. This is true, so be sure to establish that paperwork right away when you open your accounts and you will be all set from day one.

worst. bank. ever. i have never experienced incompetence from any business such as what i encountered with dedham savings bank. their online banking services are an utter joke. you can’t transfer money to an external bank account. when you try you get an error saying to call the bank. then when you call them they tell you you have to come in to a branch to do it. i had this functionality in the 1990’s. i was stuck in san francisco and needed money from my account. i asked them to give me a one time increase on my cash advance limit. they attempted this, but it failed. then they attempted to raise my ATM limit so i could get the money that way. that also failed. the manager of electronic banking told me that she couldn’t understand why it wasn’t working, and that it must be the ATM, even though i was running all over san francisco trying every ATM in the city and none of them would give me the money. when i called back she told me it was 5:15 so she «really had to leave». on top of all this they completely changed the terms of my account from underneath me. i know lots of banks do this and it’s in the terms of service, but dedham savings reduced the amount on which they would pay interest by 400% and reduced the interest rate by 200%. meanwhile cambridge savings bank is offering higher interest, less hoops to jump through to get the top rate, and state of the art online banking. stay away from dedham savings at all costs, they are abysmal.

The staff here is the best there is from ordinary transactions to opening an account.
