The law firm of Woodruff & Wren, LLP traces its roots to C. T. Gettys (dec’d 1960), who began his practice in Decatur in 1905, as a partner in the law firm McMurray & Gettys. H. G. (Grady) Woodruff (dec’d 1963) received his law license in the late 1920s, but spent a number of years in the Texas Legislature and Texas Senate before returning to Decatur. W. B. Woodruff, Jr. (retired) joined the firm in the early 1950s. The firm has experienced many permutations through the years. District Judge John H. Fostel, Wise County Court-​at-​Law No. 1 Judge Melton D. Cude (a grandson of C. T. Gettys), and Wise County Court-​at-​Law No. 2 Judge Stephen J. Wren are each former members of the firm. The firm presently consists of Mason L. Woodruff (a grandson of C. T. Gettys) and Jennifer Wren. In 2012 the firm was recognized for its continuity and history of service by receipt of the «Legend Award,» jointly given by the Decatur Chamber of Commerce and Decatur Economic Development Corporation.
