After reading a couple of past reviews, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I had a very smooth experience with this Uhaul location. A few days in advance, I placed an online reservation for a small truck to be used on a busy moving weekend. I also called the location to confirm the reservation. Truck insurance, boxes, and other(potentially useful) extras were offered online, but I declined these add-ons without much fuss. I showed up at the main office at 9am on my reservation date and was driving out in the truck about 15 minutes later. There wasn’t any needless upselling at the office, and the service was polite and professional. The truck seemed to be in good condition. I also wasn’t given any unexpected time limitations on the truck. I requested a full day to be safe(which I received), but ended up returning it early. Aside from a small«environmental fee,» there weren’t any extra charges besides the base rate and mileage costs. Very positive, hassle-free experience.

This review is for the UBox service. I filled two UBoxes in California and had them delivered here. I stopped in, in person, to make sure they had my address and phone number. I thought it would be weeks before the boxes arrived… but I actually got a call later that day that they had arrived! So +1 to Uhaul for being very fast with their cross-country shipping, but –1 to Uhaul(or just this location?) for knowing when they would arrive. When I spoke with the staffer on the phone, I asked about the forklifts. In California the boxes had been delivered and picked up using a little forklift and a flatbed truck. My driveway here in Decatur is crazy, so I knew they needed the forklift. I was assured that everyone has the same forklift… But the next day, the two boxes show up on a trailer. I live on a busy road, so the poor driver had a terrible time trying to back the trailer up my driveway since he didn’t want to block the road. After about 30 minutes, we figure out the trailer is too wide anyways. The next morning, at 9AM, he tries to back up with a smaller trailer with only 1 box. Again, the traffic is terrible. At least the trailer fits, and makes it up my driveway after about an hour. Once he leaves I realize the fold-down ramp is stuck and I end up calling a friend to help me open the box. Because of the driveway nightmare, I have the second box left to the side of my house. The driver kindly brought a utility dolly since I then had to haul my boxes and furniture around the entire house. That Ubox was damaged, but that could have happened at any point. Overall, the staff didn’t seem very knowledgeable. The driver was nice and friendly… but the trailer delivery was a huge pain. I had a *great* experience in California, so the problem isn’t Uhaul as a whole.

I don’t even know what to say about this location. Stay far far away from here if you can. The guy who was there seemed quite«out of it“and did not understand the computer systems, proceeded to double charge my credit card for our rental as well as give me paperwork with someone else’s car information and license plate number on it. He also charged me $ 10 for a utility dolly but gave me a $ 7 furniture dolly which was completely useless. When we asked for advice on towing a trailer, he just said«don’t go over 70.» Umm… last I was told, you don’t go over 55mph. The first trailer we hooked up to, was old and beat up, the taillights were out and the tires were flat so we told him we needed to switch to a new one. He definitely seemed put out that we had to change trailers. Also, they NEVER answer the phone or return your calls, so don’t even bother wasting your time leaving a message. This is probably the worst UHaul I’ve ever dealt with and I have moved many, many times in my life. I even called the regional service center and complained to them and was told that I would be contacted by Jose, the regional manager, which NEVER happened. There is no follow-up whatsoever. Find another UHaul location!
