History

Established in 1958.

Mike Newell began reparing vehicles in a two bay garage off of Jasper Street just behind the Mellow Cream donut shop. He quickly developed a reputation for being a pioneer in custom repairs and refinishing. As his popularity grew, more and more individuals wanted Mike Newell to repair their vehicles.

In 1959, he completed a sheet metal repair program at a General Motors training center in St. Louis, MO. At only 20 years old, it became apparent what his career path would be. So in 1963, he built a small, three bay shop on West Harrison, where Newell’s Auto Body still resides today. At that time he had only 3 employees.

Newell’s Auto Body is managed by Todd Newell, who joined the family business in 1996 after receiving a Finance Degree from the University of Western Kentucky.

Todd is married to Debbie Newell. They share a daughter, Amanda Anderson, who is married to Art Anderson. Amanda and Art share two children, Porter (age 2) and Colton (age 1.)

Amanda has earned an undergraduate degree in Business Management from Millikin University and a Masters in Business Administration from Illinois State University. Art received his undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems from Millikin University, and joined the company in 2008 as an estimator.
